I picked up a novel today at BB&B, and I'm having a great time with it. one thing I would love to be able to do is tether it to my Touch Pro 2 (It has a wifi router built in). I searched for info on the forums, and the best guide i could find was here: http://www.slatedroid.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?1882-HOW-TO-Adhoc&highlight=adhocIt seems like that's Elkin specific though. I'm an embedded software engineer by trade - though a total noob to android. Anyone know if the above guide will work with the novel? (I haven't learned enough about rooting devices yet, so I'm not sure myself)Thanks

all i've seen so far is that Android devices will not tether off other android devices...that means the Novel, the Nook, or any other Android phone...I was setting my friend's Droid up to tether, and i couldn't connect it to my Droid, but iMacs, iPads, my home laptop (Vista machine), whatever found it right away. I would love some more info on this as well....

[quote name='JoeProcopio;17620]basically they need access points' date=' not ad hoc networks...any ideas anyone? Froyo allows for hotspot access point tethering, but not my rooted Droid, that is Ad Hoc, as I'm sure your phone is as well, right?[/QUOTE'] Exactly - My TP2 (windows mobile) shows up as an Ad hoc network. This is using HTC's own "wifi network share" application. I'll take a look and see if there are any winmo apps that make it behave as an infrastructure access point - but I have my doubts.

I concur. PDN cannot see my HTC EVO via its hacked wifi tether because it's ad hoc. However, I enabled the "official" wifi hotspot (which is going to cost me the extra $30 until i figure out how to enable it via froyo) and PDN can now see/access that method.

I use WIFI Tether for rooted on my EVO and tether the novel to it all day long, this has been my curent setting since I rooted the novel the first day. I litterally use it everywhere, I even use app monster to save any app i like on my EVO to apk format and then email it to myself, turn on the novel which tethers to the EVO's wifi automatically, then grabs the new email in my gmail account I just sent and I save and run the apk via ASTRO and BAM! have the app on my novel... until we find a marketplace fix this works well for me

I can't get the PDN to recognize the wifi tether at all! What's your secret?

I wanted to do the same thing with my iPhone... After much googling I found the lack of ad hoc support is a known problem with Android. Other android users created a hack modifying a config file.. I have not tried that since my PDN is not yet rooted. Also according the instructions I found a week ago... you have to remove the hack to get it to connect to access points..Yet another problem with WiFi... but this time not limited to PDN... same as the no support for hidden SSID's.

I also have an EVO but not fully rooted because of unrevoked. Presume I need to have full root for this to work?

I found this the other day but haven't tried it yet. Not sure if it will work but what the heck.SlateDroid - Android Tablet Forum
I'm confused as to whether I complete these commands on the phone that's set up with WiFi Tether or on my Novel or on both? Pulled both files, edited as the instruction said to, pushed them back and my Novel is still not recognizing my Droid's WiFi.

I have an iphone and Ad-Hoc teather, I had to rig up a work around. iPhone --> (adHoc) --> Wireless Ethernet Bridge (no dhcp, set to bridge mode connected to iphone's adHoc) -->cat-5 cable--> linksys wireless router (no dhcp) --> (accespoint wireless) --> NovelCrude but functional. My iPhone has dhcp running on adHoc 192.168.20.###, the Novel gets an ip just fine.
