android 1.6 only supports 256, we would have to get 2.0+ working for higher color

And there might be devices which in some special applications might support more.

WOW, I wish I would have found this forum before I ordered one (which has already shipped). Not a video device??? 256 Colors? My intention was to use this device to display pictures and play video_OOPS.Since we have confirmed that Android 1.6 supports more than 256 colors, what are the chances of any kind of an update for us to enjoy better colors as well? Or is this a limitation of the LCD panel used?*EDIT* Indeed, the now famous shanzai.com youtube video shows smooth video playback and some pretty nice looking photos. So either they had a better unit than the one that is actually being shipped or ?

the color quality is just fine, the only place where you MIGHT notice the difference is in the green spectrum, red and blues will be unnoticeable.

[/quote]I disagree. the G1 and my Moment when ti ran 1.5 both displayed color a lot better than this. Everything has a gradient to it including wallpapers.

the color depth is what i meant, the screen itself is a whole different story

So comparing your unit to the one shanzai.com reviewed, do you think it looks the same (by as much as you can tell from the youtube quality of their video)? Did they get a better unit than what is actually being shipped, or did the reviewer just need glasses?

Still have the doiley effect mentioned in another thread though, but otherwise I now agree with you. ;)

Maybe we would be able to fiddle around in the system files and change the color depth manually.I don't know, but I will try, my tablet is on the way. :)If not 16-bit, 512 colors would also be better, but possibly strain the device more.
