Woohoo, the first custom firmware for the T15 on SlateDroid! Well done mate, and a big thank you from the community for taking the time to get this up. This is great for those of us too lazy, or without the time to create our own, or who just don't have the time. Will you be taking feature requests?

If I can handle it because I'm not a coder or something like that. My options are limited... And time unfortunately too.
But if you have some input let me know. A question don't cost money.

Nice work, I've just flashed your version and its nice to have it rooted, and all the build prop tweaks, etc already done straight out of the box. Just wanted to add one thing for those who might get caught up on it: Once you have downloaded the zip file from above you must rename it to "SmartQT15", no extensions just like to official releases are. Don't extract the file, just rename it and put it in the root of your sd card ready to flash. You must do this because it seams that the recovery mode will only flash a file named "SmartQT15", if you don't rename it and just put it in there with the downloaded zip file name you will get an error saying file not found when you try to flash it. Other than that, once re-named it flashes perfectly.

Thanks.
But you don't need to rename it. Further you don't need to format the sd card or do the file in the root directory of your sd card. In step 4 of the How to you can choose the first point. Then you see the filesystem on your sd card. There you can go in folders and choose every file without a problem for install.

Oh what I forget to tell. App2SD didn't work. But Link2SD. But with Link2SD you need to have a second partition on your SD Card where your Apps will move to. But with Link2SD you can't move additional download content like gameloft games has move to sd.
I look for App2SD integration but at the moment I havn't much time. Because of that sorry about my spelling I do all this from my smartphon or tablet because I'm not at home...

Just an idea but if you could I guess it might help those ith touchscreen issues.

My idea is that if you could remove the touchscreen drivers in version 5 and replace it version 1 drivers
in the kernel than hopefully that might solve touchscreen issues people are having.
Although that might need recompiling of the kernal and such and might require more work but anyway just an idea.

Sending the device back to smartq just to have a bios flash is just time consuming and the shipping cost could buy
you a new cheap tablet instead.

I thinked about it, but I have one big problem. I can´t test it, because my Device works as it should be... I´m sure that I figuered out the drivers. Now I´m downloading V1 to see if the drivers are different. If this is so, there is a chance that it can work, but I think it should be the possibility that the BIOS of the mainboard only works wit Android 4.0.3. What I try to say is, maybe the BIOS that is installed on the devices is not compatible with 4.0.4 and that this is no driver issue.
If the files different, I will upload a test version, without any tweaks only with driver changes. Someone needs to try then.

Ok, hopefully I will get it work. Chances are 50:50 drivers are different, but this needs a little bit of time, because they are much different & the script to load is total new on V4.5 to V1.0. Maybe tomorrow I´ll edit some modules. Then I´ll upload test versions. I think if it don´´t work there is anytime the chance to go back into recovery and flash the original Firmware, because I don´t touch the boot folder. But it´s a little bit risky who will try it out.

Can it be rc_mrk flashed the custom rom by renaming the file and putting it in the root of the sd card so he could update by pressing volume down and powerbutton. This way u can skip the use of cwm recovery. Can u confirm this works?

Doesn't work already tried that, also can be found in the touchscreen problems thread.
It needs all source codes to get it to work, so android and all drivers to recompile the ROM, and nobody but SmartQ has this.

Edit: As for shipping costs, it cost me 25 euro's to send it back that includes insurance, from the Netherlands to China. Can't buy a tablet for that. And it needs to be send back to get it fixed, SmartQ won't build a seperate firmware just for the touchscreen. Or stay on V1 but I think that's pointless.

No that doesn't work like that, the package isn't signed anymore when you edit it so you need to disable the signature check in CWM recovery. That's what my How to describes.

Ok. One more thing about it. Changing the driver files don't work, but if we change the script that loads the modules for touchscreen, then it work propably. Did you test this or did you only paste and rename the driver file from v1 to v2,3,4?

Don't know how, never did that before. Sorry
Well I was afraid that my download was corrupted. This may be happen if you download files from rapidshare/megaupload etc. And if the file is corrupted, you will have a bad flash.

So when you share a important file such as a firmware, you can give a md5 checksum of your .zip so that the users can verify their download. You can do this with Winmd5 (freeware).

I'm really happy with your custom firmware. I did a wipe afterwards, but root access and modified build.prop remained.

Will look for MD5 of I'm at home the next few days.

Don't know how, never did that before. Sorry

Ok. One more thing about it. Changing the driver files don't work, but if we change the script that loads the modules for touchscreen, then it work propably. Did you test this or did you only paste and rename the driver file from v1 to v2,3,4?

That might work, didn't try that as I am not experienced with Android. This is my first Android tablet.

That's what I talking about......here's a general idea of integrating the old driver I manage to get after some digging around.

Question
I'm adapting a Gingerbread kernel for my custom board. I'm trying to replace a resistive touch screen that uses an on-chip ADC controller (S5PV210 processor from Samsung). In my design, I need a capacitive controller supported by eGalaxyTouch driver. It's connected to the USB. The driver can be easily enabled from the "make xconfig" menu. It somewhat works since I added some traces on the serial console and I can see it installing during the kernel boot and I see it install and uninstall itself when connecting/disconnecting the USB cable. But it doesn't do anything in the Android user interface. It is an HID type device. The problem is it does not hook-up to the proper Android touchscreen software layer. I must have miss something. There must be something else to call to force this HID to be connected to another software layer managing the touchscreen.

The touchscreen drivers are located at kernel/drivers/input/touchscreen. There is also some code straight in kernel/drivers/input.

Any clues on how to link that HID device to the Android Touchscreen layer? I look how they did the old resistive one and it is not done through an HID because it's a "custom made" device with ADCs integrated in the CPU and it's not going through USB
Answer
I succeeded to integrate the touchscreen driver. Here is a rough idea of the steps just to give an idea of how it works for the others who would face the same kind of problem.

First remove the original touchscreen driver to prevent conflict (make xconfig)

Originally, I had a driver that doesn't work eventhough it was provided by the touchscreen manufacturer. I decided to try the eGalax touchscreen driver already in the Kernel tree. This is a module driver. It is not enough to enable "module device drivers" in the make xconfig. Yes, it will allow to compile the .ko files. but it will not tell the building script what to do with the file.ko and they will not end up going with the kernel in the target system. So you have to take action by adding stuff to the build script or manually copy the file.ko in the proper root/modules location and add the loading of the module with the "insmod /modules/file.ko" command in the init.rc file. Don't forget to set the proper privileged to /modules and modules/file.ko with chmod command.

After that it basically worked, except for some minor problems not related to that question (the driver was for a slightly different chip with bits placed differently, easy to fix)
I have no idea how to do the above if not I would have tried it myself.

As for testing I am willing to give it a go cause if you have removed the new drivers and replace it with version1 drivers than if the touchscreen is working means you have successfully intergrated it.If it's not working then that means it fail.

Tonight i will test something out. I try it with V2 because the changes in newer firmwares are bigger in the script files. Then I let you know about it.
