Dev Oma along with Astralix, JochenKauz and netlars have worked feverishly to create several revisions of the Oma Rocks ROM. Below are the revisions and patches linked to make your v88 (and v88s) purr like a finely oiled machine. Each ROM version has ClockWorkMod (CWM) and provides Root permission in its build.

The explanation for Oma's build number nomenclature is below:
v3.x - JB 4.2.2
v4.x - JB 4.2.2 SDK2.0
v5.x - JB 4.2.2 SDK2.0 multi window

Below are DL links and benefits of the latest release for each type of build (v5.x, v4.x and v3.x)

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: CHUWI HAS CHANGED OUT HARDWARE FOR THE SCREEN CONTROLLER FOR 2ND GEN MODELS OF THE V88. 2ND GEN MODELS CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY THEIR S/N. MODELS WITHOUT "QUAD" IN THEIR S/N ARE CONSIDERED 2ND GEN MODELS (THIS CAN INCLUDE THE "TIG," V88S AND V88HD MODELS). 1st Gen models (V88 QUAD, V88S AND TIG) should use kernel Bob#160 which is the default kernel in the later builds of this ROM.

2nd Gen model users should check what kernel currently is being used in with their firmware before flashing this (Settings menu - About tablet - Kernel version). Once you have ID'd your kernel number, swap out the kernel in this ROM with your compatible one.See this post which provides DL links for all the 2nd GEN kernels. Make sure you flash your 2nd Gen model using the correct kernel or your screen will not work (you will get a black screen) and will need to reflash your tablet. See this post on how to swap out your kernel if you get a black screen.

Flashing Instructions for Installing Oma Rocks ROMs:

1. Copy format_NAND fix to sdcard
2. Hard power off your V88 (hold power button until it powers off)
3. While holding Volume+ (up) button
4. Plug USB into your PC (update mode)
5. Install missing drivers from driver folder if you have not already
6. Run RKAndroidTool.exe as Admin (click right)
7. Select EraseIDB (current should count up to 4096)
8. Select Flash Rom
9. V88 will boot into CWM
10. Run format_NAND fix (install zip from ext_sdcard)
11. Reboot
12. wait 4 minutes

NOTE: Oma has provided a new kernel (bob #160) which can be flashed with this ROM. Link to kernel download can be found here.

Patches:
NAND_fix - batch file which is installed via CWM ("install zip on sdcard" or "external sdcard" commands in CWM) allowing tablet to properly mount external/internal SD card and wipe cache
PhabletUI - batch file which is installed via CWM (("install zip on sdcard" or "external sdcard" commands in CWM) allowing tablet's UI to use the "Phablet" UI style
TabletUI - batch file which is installed via CWM (("install zip on sdcard" or "external sdcard" commands in CWM) allowing tablet's UI to use "Tablet" UI style

Patch Install Directions:
1. Copy patch file to your external card
2. If installing Oma ROM for the first time, ROM will automatically install CWM and boot into CWM once installed
2.5 If already installed Oma ROM, boot into CWM by either using recovery app (like Quick Boot) or do a hard shutdown and then hold the volume "+" and then power button for three seconds and you should boot into CWM
3. Once booted into CWM navigate to "install zip to external sdcard"; navigate to where on external sdcard patch file is located and install
4. Reboot into system using CWM

*Note: if your patch file on your external sdcard isn't seen at first, try removing and re-installing card and look for it again.

Oma Rocks ROM Revs:

Note: Early Oma Rocks ROM builds may be incompatible with your device as Chuwi released modification to hardware. Version 3.3 and up account for these changes and should work on all v88 and v88s. Lower versions may cause your tablet to "soft-brick" and should not be attempted. Discussion of v3.3 and later builds starts on post #71 and forward

Build v5.3a (JB 4.2.2 SDK2.0 multi window)
Based on Chuwi's 08/01/13 firmware release.

i have flashed this ROM, work ok.

but i have this "slight" stutter when playing video, happens since original rom, april build.
this ROM not fixed it, i wonder will that "format_NAND_fix" will fix it?

what is for anyway?

how to flash that zip? is it in recovery??

THanks.

PS: anyway to enable phablet mode?

Seems related to HDMI turned on, HDMI not interfere...

after i turned off the HDMI function in setting,

i have not yet seen any hiccup/stutter in HD playback in all my files.. (crossing fingers)

Now it seem related to WIFI, if on Airplane mode, its Fine.. no hiccup

still looking for the problem...

anyone experience the same??

For me uprade was ok, all was ok. From Applications i try to ger in to recovery menu. After this tablet can not boot. I connected it to rk batch tool, flashed different flaseh, process is still ok, but tablet still can not power on
verry bad
foony,

My understanding is that you tried flashing this ROM, it flashed correctly. After booting up your tablet, you tried to reboot into CWM recovery using an application and then ran into issues. Is this correct? What application did you use to try and reboot into recovery? When you re-flashed again, did you try and flash the same ROM? If so, I suggest flashing the original 4.2.2 firmware that Chuwi released and seeing how that goes.

just realized, whenever i connect the USB,(mass storage), cannot access the drive...seems not mounted

what seems to be the problem...

but MTP mode is fine

question, why the clock font and taskbar icon so small, compared to TabletUI on 4.1.1, anyway to change to phablet ui? changing lcddensity build.prop to 213 does not do the trick.

#25 ·
Oma confirmed the Mass Storage Problem, as he reply me on xd@ forum, for phablet ui, taskbar clock, need to recompile the framework.

here's same file, faster mirror: Oma v.3.0.1.Light+PhabletUI

on another note: can somebody confirm which JellyBean version this actually is? Have yet to test it myself, but since kernel #301 is JB4.1, does that mean the whole version is 4.1? Contrary to that there's screens from that installation identifying as JB 4.2.2 ... (see screenshot@German forum) - quite confusing...

As far as I tested, I can be resolved by using an external micro sd (min class 6, best class 10). I had such chopiness with 1080P movies when reading from the internal nand flash, but everything became smooth when I read from the micro sd.
Hope this helps.

NB: I tested with 4.1 stock rom, 4.1 repack and 4.2 Oma.

Can I update to OMA 3.1 from OMA 3.0 without "wipe factory/data"? It's been already twice I downloaded all the apps I wanted and stuff. I don't wanna do it again.

It's kinda annoying to have such a powerful device with such a poor software support. And i'm not talking about OMA's releases, but the original ones.

#38 ·
Drambuie,

You probably don't have to, but it's always recommended to at least clear the cache and the dalvik cache when installing a new ROM. Personally I use Titanium Backup (TB) to back up all my apps to my external SD card and then wipe the caches and factory reset when installing new ROMs just to make sure there's no residual "gremlins" in the system that can cause lag/force closes. Then it's just pressing one button to have all your apps and homescreen back to the way it was before the flash.

Oma just released v3.2

Head to his homepage for download

=======

Chuwi V88 by Oma JB 4.2.2 v3.2

- Internal Storage 4,0 GB
- external SD mounted as NAND (up to 64 GB)
- Device spoofed as Nexus 7
- Gameloft compatible

For this build we will change now partition-layout on the NAND.
Therefore we use EradeIDB in RKAndroid-Tool.
Pls make sure that current counts up to 4096 (otherwise tab will reboot).

Build comes with CWM, so we need also the format_NAND_fix (see instructions).

If you don't like the mount then pls install intSD_to_NAND_fix directly after format_NAND_fix.

Download: http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?wpfb_dl=729
format_NAND_fix (internal become 4GB) http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?wpfb_dl=687
intSD_to_NAND_fix (default instalation now make ext_sd as sdcard. this to revert back to original mount) http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?wpfb_dl=727

=============
As Always: NEVER PLUG USB OUT BEFORE FLASHING FINISHED, JUST PLUG IT OUT ONCE ALREADY ENTER CMW

PS: havent try myself... already settle in 3.1, very stable

Just tried to flash OMA 3.2 and I'm facing some weird issues!

First of, CWM doesn't see the storage of my tablet. I only recognizes external sdcard (If i plug in one). So I just put the format nand file into the sd card and tried flashing it through CWM. Problem is CWM "sees" all the folders inside my sdcard but no files at all. Either they're zip files, .txt files or whatever. What the heck shall I do?

Update: I just put the files into a subfolder and reboot the device. It worked that way. So far nothing seems better.
