Haha, you and me both buddy!

But I don't think they're planning on releasing a black version.

Would be awesome if you could ditch the skin somehow though.

Though, even with skin and in white, I'm so friggin' curious. lol

Wow. That's dirt cheap compare to the $275 i paid for the cube pea 2.
Image

I hope they use a good emmc storage and controller.
My pea 2 has atrocious random IO which result in super lag spike when it runs out of out of ram.
Kinda strange I don't see this brand being sold in most of the Chinese retailer that ship to USA.

Yeah, their ideology is very Chinese minded.
The launcher is expecting a Chinese user and optimized accordingly (language wise).
So, you can in fact change the language of Android to one of your desire (English, or one of the many other availlable), but the skin/launcer/widgets will still be mainly Chinese.
But I bet there will be some possibilities to get a clean Android on there. Especially when there's a bit of a international community to support it.
And with these pretty unique specs, I bet some people will be particularly interested.

The trading market site JD will be the first to offer the FNF ifive X2 in two versions, a 16GB and a 32GB one selling for 999 CNY and 1199 CNY special pre-order prices respectively.
Once availlable probably be back up to 1099 and 1299 CNY.

So if you're in China... I envy you!

For all us other enthusiasts, we'll have to wait untill it will sell on Tmall or find an agent that lets you buy from JD.com.

About the skin2.0, it changes some parts of the layout such as icons and places some widgets. Surely you can just bin the widgets and surely you can use a whole other launcher, but ideally you'd have a lean Android to begin with, not layers stacked up on eachother.

***** Ah! Surely just after posting this I checkout out Tmall, and it's listed there now as well!

Same prices as on JD.com.

Listings on AliExpress as well (however, sellers add 'In stock' all the time, but be cautious, they might not).

can't wait to see how this beauty works. Some real hands-on review should be very useful, but I'm afraid we're not so close to that....

Anyway, what do you think, how will it be supported by the community - custom roms, etc - or at elast to get rid of skin ?
Image
The hardware combination looks really good, but the manufacturer is totally unknown to me

Well, the ifive X2 will be layoutwise pretty identical to the somewhat less exciting 2S, but since the 2S is already out there's a video on that one.

As you can see the tablet can be set in English and actually many other languages, something I was afraid it might not (like some smartphones offer Chinese language or a very limited selection only).
But you can clearly see the icons have been changed and the skinned widget added. Note however the Chinese characters on the weatherpanel.

So yeah, it's wait and see. I'm not sure how big the international community is (or will be), because it hasn't really been established abroad, although seemingly quite succesful inside of the Chinese borders.
But there's a big core community on http://www.5fans.com.cn/forum.php . So I'm not that concerned about debugging and updates.

Anyways, I might just get one to check how 1920x1200 looks like on 8.9".
The rest of the specs is quite nice too, just would've been perfect if it where black, had 3G and GPS and perhaps even the IR transmitter like found in the ifive 3.
But for the price... we can hardly complain with this packagedeal.

Yeah, well, I have the Ainol Fire, so that is already 1280x800 on 7".
You can keep the ppi the same all you want, but add resolution and more fits the screen.
But instead of using 1920x1200 on a 10.1" screen, it's on 8.9", so that will be something pretty new and unusual.

This tablet looks pretty good though I hate the white front bezel. It would be too distracting for me to use. I need black borders. I think I would be unhappy with a tablet with white front.

Curious as to the quality for iFive tablets. They look pretty good. Too bad they don't do black fronts.

#17 ·
Yeah, I'm looking forward to play around with one to see how it feels and establish a general opinion of the FNF brand.

I really dislike the white front bezel as well, but the prototype pics of the M7 (Pro) posted earlier in the general topic kinda indicated PiPO was moving the same direction.
Anyways, it's the first 8.9" 1920x1200 that I know of to be availlable and actually it's very decently priced as well. So why not try.
I've never had a white tablet before, because I can not imagine I like it, but I'm open enough to atleast try it out.
I don't think there's any problem selling this tablet again. I guess it's not that hard to find a new owner for it, so bring it on I'd say.

Couple of Chinese tablet makers have switched to white fronts for some reason. Not sure why white fronts is the cool thing now. I thought maybe because of iPad Mini but that actually comes with choice of white or black.

Pretty sure that iFive tablet will work out well for you. Specs look very good for it. Just need more info on build quality.

OK. I just watched the video and saw the following:
-lag when trying to switch screens with UI
-weak WiFi signal
-very slow at loading web page + PlayStore (b/c of weak WiFi???)
-also required multiple touches to screen to work which is another issue

Maybe some lag with Temple Run too??? Saw a little pausing on that game and do not think that is normal.

Not your imagination. Specs look great on paper but this tablet appears to have a few visible problems - lag + weak WiFi.

I would avoid this tablet based off seeing that unboxing video.

#22 ·
I am not impressed.

I want to see the androbench for this tablet before I jump on it. I like my Cube Pea 2 but it's never 100 percent lag free because of the slow emmc storage. With better soc and 2gb of ram, the bottle neck for these tablet is storage speed. With a decent emmc storage, these babies will be iPad smooth.

That was a very unimpressive unboxing video. Took 4 minutes until the tablet was turned on, which actually was good because the performance was pretty poor. I almost fell asleep waiting for the first webpage to load(which he had to touch several times to even start loading) . Still waiting for an rk3188 tablet to make me say, wow that looks good!

It could very well be firmware problem. It could also be some hardware issue(s). No way to know for sure which one. In addition, who knows when or if the firmware will get fixed to work well.

I wouldn't spend the money for a badly working tablet. It would be too frustrating to use.

Lots of Chinese tablets out there and only a few seem to work very well!!!

#30 ·
Hmm, well there does seem to be a little lag, however that might also be due to the user's ability to know how to swipe effectively. The section demonstrating the internet browsing capabilities is a bit shocking. It's almost so bad that I'm inclined to think that this was a router issue rather than the tablet hardware. Who tries to demo a tablet when you've got almost no wireless signal? Maybe they were using a really crowded Wifi channel? Also, the back of the iFive seems to be plastic, which in general bodes well for good Wifi signal as plastic vs. metal greatly reduces the chances of Wifi interference.

I agree with JohnnyBlades though, these Chinese vendors are pitiful when it comes to accurately reviewing their products. Waiting for a SD review is really the only way to go.

Ah! I will try that as soon as I get it in.

I bought one a couple days ago on aliexpress. I had asked they ship asap, but the vendor claimed that they were waiting on some new and better firmware. I don't know which one that is, but I expect the current firmware must be pretty bad if they don't want to ship out.

In any event, I like the hardware specs. Nice smaller package compared to the average 10' tablet. It seems it's powered via a normal USB as well and not the usual 2,5mm jack.

I also like the front facing dual speakers. I just hope the hardware, including the WIFI are decent. Crossing my fingers.

If it's not the best tablet, I will give it to the kids.

#38 ·
Exactly. The specs and thought that went into this tablet are really nice.

The only thing I'm anxious for now is how the tablet will actually be in practice.
So I went and ordered one at the official Tmall-store with a bunch of freebie goodies and I'll just undertake this experiment.
I'm not much of a white tablets fan anyways, so it's more just taking a look at what 8.9" 1920x1200 would be like and seeying how the FNF brand does things.
There's a lot of community at http://www.5fans.com.cn/forum.php , so I don't think they would just ignore any feedback.

If with the new firmware it still doesn't feel up to my standard and I can't get used to a white tablet, then I'll find something to whom such a tablet will be good enough.
I think that's the best mindset with this one.

Mine should arrive somewhere next week I'd say, so I will know soon enough.
