I think you're missing SSL option so your connection is rejected.

It's possible the site has upgraded thier SSL certificate and your root certificate no longer applies to the site (Thawte for example has changed thier root certs requiring most devices to update root store). I don't know if the pop3 mail setup has the same checkmark as Exchange but if it does checking the box "Trust all certificates" will fix this. If not you'll need the PK12 certificate from your ISP stored on your device for your device to trust the site over SSL. Otherwise, do not use SSL (but sends your username and password in plain text across the internet)

Whoops just read your last post. Possible based on that error that your Root Certificate Store is corrupt.

My Galaxy (verizon) phone was sending mail for over the entire time I have had it. Yesterday late in the day I got the "send failed. cannot connect safely to the server" message

Incoming mail is fine and unchanged.

I have not changed ANY settings on the phone, in fact I am not that tech savvy.

Any ideas fols. Thoughts much appreciated
