I'm actually in the process of creating a clean kernel build (currently a 2.6.39 build, ready for Gingerbread and later) based on the Telechips GPL source code. Through disassembly of the original GT kernel, I'm able to figure out the hardware details not included in the Telechips kernel. Once this is working, I'll post it on github for further development. It is already booting, just no NAND/display/touchscreen drivers yet, need to update them for this newer kernel.

Will keep you guys informed!

Ithamar,

Goal #1 would be to have 2.6.29 build and run just like the kernel shipped on your smartbook. Did you achieve this already before trying to port things forward?

there is the COO with his childish Facebook.! I am currently in process of getting his personal email. and business email and all phone numbers, i will not release any more personal info than what is needed to reach him at his offices and other business contacts. should be back within a few days with what ever else is needed.

Hrm, I would personally forgot about pursuing this. First, because it will not end up changing anything for you personally. Secondly, because this story has countless repeats with everyone who discovers that he can import something cheap and crappy put together by chinese farmers who moved to a big city, and who wants to make a quick dishonest buck.

Unless you are walmart or whoever who is reselling these things, or unless you are Harald Welte or some GNU person, you'll be better off directing your energy to something else; perhaps on getting those people to move on this subject, or perhaps on developing the code for the device.

In germany, the GT was sold by the company smartbook: here is a story about this company: http://www.netbookne...fruhr-versetzt/

For a horrible google translation: http://translate.goo...fruhr-versetzt/

This is another one of those horrible "let's make a quick buck and then go bankrupt" stories, and it seems pointless to even try to talk to people about doing something about their breaking of the GPL.
