So it is the Dawa without a name branding? or was it just cloned Chinese product by the Chinese?

I'm guessing it's just the OEM for Dawa selling stock to whoever is buying... I mean really, who would clone a Dawa? That's getting pretty meta if you ask me.

I just bought one of these tablets, here is what I can tell you:

It appears to be the same tablet as the D7.  It has a white back, front camera, and mini HDMI port.  The firmware appears to be the same as users are reporting for the newer Dawas, and the Gentouch rooting procedures work with it.  Market works out of the box as long as the timezone and date are configured correctly.  Like most people are reporting, the processor actually runs at 600MHz although it will overclock to 720 easily.

The device and the box it comes in have absolutely no branding besides "Telechips 8902 based tablet".

I just bought this tablet from DX, unfortunatelly mine has been having some problems with the touchscreen I was unable to calibrate it, anyone who has this same tablet can send me the pointercal file?

I would like to first try to substitute the file before trying to upgrade the firmware to a similar device, like iMito, Dawa D7 or Augen Gentouch.

Thanks

Many (me included) reported the non working touchscreen after flashing GT78 and similar firmware. Apparently this is due to a different hardware revision. The touchscreen type requires probably a new input configuration.

To [Jozer99]: Can you backup your firmware (boot.img, recovery.img and system.img)  and share it? I'm trying to veryfy how I can path the different firmware for the Dawa and GT78 tablet to run on the new hardware revision of the DX.

Thanks loads

I would be glad to provide you with firmware files.  However, I am definitely a newbie with android.  Step by step directions for extracting the firmware would be greatly appreciated.  Also, giving you my firmware won't give you my personal accounts and data, correct?

Hi Jozer,
the system, the boot and the recovery partitions do not contain any personal data. User data are contained in the /userdata  partition (don't wipe it out...)

In order to perform a backup of the tablet you need few things. The main thing you need is the SDK:
If I'm not wrong you have a mac right?
DWNLD http://developer.and.../sdk/index.html
INSTLL http://developer.and...installing.html

Once you installed it you can check that everything is working by;
- start your tablet;
- connect it to you pc/mac with the usb cable;
- go in the sdk directory (console) and run "adb devices" (tablet should not be in stad-by).
If everything is right you will see the serial number of your device.

The easiest thing is probably to back it up via adb on a microSD card:
[norguhtar] posted few instruction on the DX forum:

Sorry it took so long, but here it is.  Followed directions and everything seemed to work as it should, but I take absolutely no responsibility for anything that happens to your tablet if you flash these.  All three files are included in the zip.

Jozer,

You have that download available still ? The RapidShare link says it's not. I've like to have a look at it.

What's in this file, anyway ? Boot.img ? System.Img ? Recovery.Img ? All three ?

The unit through DealExtreme looks to be a White model of the Smartbook Surfer ( www. smartbook.de ) I'd be curious to see how much different than the Augen GT78 it is..

Sorry, I don't have an account at rapidshare so the download expires quickly.  If someone has a permanent place to host it, please let me know.  In the mean time, I put it on megaupload.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KFWCT0I6

All three files are included in the download.

The differences between the Gentouch and the Smartbook/DAWA/Dealextreme tablet have been discussed, but the Gentouch is a stripped down version of the other, nameless tablet.  The Dealextreme tablet (as well as its incarnations from other brand names) has a working accelerometer, a front camera, and the mini HDMI output.  It appears that the firmware is not quite the same for the two tablets, something to do with the touchscreen and possibly the battery circuity, so don't install Gentouch firmware on your DX tablet.  Hopefully these differences can be figured out and compensated for in the future, allowing for universal firmware.

Although the hardware seems to be identical between the Smartbook, DAWA, and Dealextreme tablets, the OS builds are not identical.  Evidently the newest Dealextreme tablets have some nice bugfixes, including a working market out of the box, and that is why I am posting the firmware files.

It seems it just cloned Chinese product by the Chinese. China-made is not believable.
