all the caveat emptor, ainol-tablet, aino-novo sites with free shipping are all sold out.
is there any trustworthy place I can still get this at the official price and that ships to canada?
is pandawill a good seller? I looked up some of the threads on here and they don't seem to have good opinion of pandawill.

I bought 2 times from Pandawill and received all the products (Ainol Fire, cases and others)without any problems here in Brazil. All free shipping.

I looked up the rk3188 thread, and apparently it isn't performing as well as rk3066. is rk3188 open source?

Rock chip and open source is comparable to devil and holy water.

well at least Exynos 4412 quad seems to have open source. I hope ramos isn't the only one using it for newer models.

Try to ask it at cm devs... They threatened to drop exynos4 support because of lack of cooperation from Samsung.

I just ordered one from pandawill earlier today. From what I read there is a lot of mixed feelings about them but more good then bad. So I'm hoping everything will be fine. With the Chinese new year going on it probably won't ship out until sometime after the 15. So I'm hoping that by Monday or Tuesday I get an email from them about it being shipped. If you do order from them make sure to register an account there so you can get tracking information. I read people that didn't set up accounts didn't get any tracking info.

Hopefully pandawill is decent and I'll receive my Fire in a week or two with express shipping.

So I recommend either giving them a shot or keep searching for other sites. I know there were a few other sites still selling it (can't remember them right now) but I decided to go the pandawill way. I hope this helps you out a little bit.

They're like every other Chinese site, they'll tell you it's in stock when you order when it's actually not in stock and then string you along with excuses and repeatedly ask you to wait. They won't rip you off, but it's frustrating dealing with them in that situation. The same goes for every Chinese reseller.

This tablet is an over-hyped failure. Ainol changed hardware specs on two occasions and has not yet produced an official firmware that addresses the many bugs that plague this tablet. Save your money and your time and go with a different brand.

Hard to recommend a tablet as the Novo7 Fire and an inexpensive Craig ICS tablet from RiteAid are the only two tablets I've owned (btw, I loved that tablet but I lost it). Anyway, just know going into buying the Novo7 Fire that you will be getting highly familiar with rom flashing because the stock roms are buggy and don't address hardware issues very well. I personally recommend the latest Amlogic Novo7 Flames 0201 Official AML Firmware + CyanogenMod 10.1 (JB 4.2) / AOKP 4.2 compatibility zip for Fire / Flame] by Christian Troy. His work makes this tablet with keeping. First flash the Official AML Firmware and then proceed with Christian's Unofficial CM10.1.

I would also look at the tablets which are officially supported by the CyanogenMod Team:

the thing is only ainol flame is still available right now, but ainol doesn't release anything for the flame so it's risky to get it compare to ainol fire.

Flame and fire are the same tablet. The only difference is the label at the back...

Hi Nolatux! I just ordered the Fire from amazon.ca (sorry to the OP of this thread - I've known all along that amazon.ca still had a couple in stock, but I didn't tell you so they didn't sell out before I could order one! I just got the last one.) and I'm just curious why you recommend flashing the official 4.2 upgrade before flashing CM 10.1. Does this make something work better than simply taking it out of the box and flashing 10.1 directly? Is it to do with the apparent partitioning change in the stock 4.2 - you like the ext4 partition scheme? Or am I missing something? Thanks!

The Official 4.2 upgrade is the only Rom out there that eliminates the electric popping sound on key presses, and yes to your question about the ext4 partitioning format. I also like the battery performance and the Mutliuser option. The downside to the 4.2 upgrade is that you'll need to re-partition the internal SD to UBIFS (which can be a tedious process), if you want to go back to stock and Feiyu roms and there's a slight screen dimming effect on hard reboot that you have to press the power key after reboot, to make the screen come on to full intensity.

Edit: I've installed Nova Launcher because Trebuchet (the stock CM10.1 launcher) loses it's settings every once in a while and you have to wipe the launcher settings in or to access the app drawer and, I went with Alloy Red theme. I believe the issue with Trebuchet, is the result of an upstream bug with Jelly Bean, not the launcher itself.

I'm very pleased with how this tablet is running, using this setup. Kudos to Christian Troy!!!
