I'm not sure how many people follow the discussions over at the G-Tablet forums but it looks like the new 3.1 kernel and JB rom are about to be released. In itself this is exciting as we could probably use the default G-tab kernel but there's something else going on. Here's a quote:

I'm in the middle of helping somebody out right now with the hannspad port. Well he's doing most of the port but I'm guiding him when he needs help. I can say he has it up and running on the 3.1 kernel already

So, who is this mystery Hannspad kernel porting person? I'm intrigued. ;)

Dare I ask if the SOD issue is fixed in the new kernel? That would be a dream come true.

For now my money is on fards, since he is both a (honorable) member of team DRH and his excellent 2.3.x kernel work is what still powers most, if not all, Hpad custom roms. Lets hope the ignoramii leave him alone this time round ....
Since the kernel is basically build from scratch as well as the JB rom, SOD's should be no more. But we will only know after it is released. From what I can tell, testing on the Gtab has been promising to say the least.
KUDOS to fosser2 :drinks: please buy the man a beer.

EDIT@Kameo: thanks for the link, I totaly missed that development.

Nope, that's not Fards,I think that it's Whyberg. Have seen a post at XDA 2 weeks ago, where Fosser was impressed that he got 3.1 booting and decided to help him or something like that.

Edit: that's not the topic i've read, but it contains some relevant infos too: http://forum.xda-dev...hlight=3 1 boot

I think you're right. Nice detective work. :good: I remember reading about Whyberg getting 3.1 booting but it slipped my mind.

Wow !!!!

I'd have say Hybrid or Marcero, but it should be Whyberg :)

A very good news, although i fear a bit (but being honest i9000 runs flawlessly 4.1.2, while it's chipset is signle core and with 512Mb... Tegra2 should have as good performances ;)

AFAIK the smba9701 is a Malata Zpad T8 (9.7", but the rest is similar to ours).

Do I really have to sign up for a Microsoft account to download it? I can grab the CWM but not the rom... It just asks for a log in.

Just made a little hack and got it running (well at least booting!) on my Hannspad 1653 (stuck at Launching applications right now ^^).

Edit:

Forgot to flash GApps 20121212... gonna give it a second try.

I'm having a look at the rom now. Actually, I've not got that far... I'm looking at the CWM rar and wondering if using NVflash for installing CWM is a good idea. I think I grabbed a zipped version of CWM v6 the other day. Might have a look at that.

EDIT: I'm going to try the CWM v6 from the android-hilfe forum. CWM v6.0.2.7

What little hack did you make when installing the main rom?

Ok, so I've installed CWM v6.0.2.7 and it's running ok. There's a few GUI issues but it works.

I've looked at the AOSP_4.2.1_CM10.1_malata_smba9701_wi-fi rom and changed some lines in the installer script. I don't think it would install in its default state due to the mount and format commands looking in the wrong places for partitions. So:

mount("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p3", "/system");

becomes :

mount("yaffs2", "MTD", "system", "/system");

There are a few places that this needs to be done. If you don't change it then nothing will copy over (CWM won't actually tell you that... It'll only become clear by looking at the recovery log).

Hmmmm, it's installing but not booting for me. I get some weird graphical glitch which doesn't look healthy....

That's what i 1st did, modify the google install script, then i modified the prop.builld one with infos i've taken from a 4.1.2 rom that boots on our Hannspad.

Actually stuck at "Launching android apps", made some other tweaks but can't get my tab for now, will test later.

Well, i discover there are noticeable G-Tablet roms based on CM10 and more. I just found an excellent CM10 for smb A1002 unofficial build (so technically a 4.1.x rom). It is really working flawlessly, faster than SmoothBean, in example, although i can't point what apps are impacting it.

As usual, we lack a recent hannspad kernel, that would fit our specific issues. As far as i see, the G-Tablet old issues are totally resolved (green flickering screen, very bad sound...), so i could implement only the SN10T1 specs.

Can someone help me to list them, actually from a G-Tablet rom, we have theses problems:

- touch buttons
- inverted volume
- hdmi ? (i don't use it)
- SOD, when tablet comes into idle, more or less related to WIFI
- Microphone ?

Others i'm forgetting ?

I have extracted only the kernel to run with a CM10-based rom on Hannspad. Strangely the boot is totally messing the hannspad logo at startup (i was thinking to have something similar to Kameo: at least up to Android launcher).

After updating the installer script to match sn10T1, i have definitively a problem with this pltform. The screen slowly becomes white pixellated, then slowly fade to black. I can't deal with smba9701 kernel, on my side.

For now, i'm surprized the CM10 build + Graveen Kernel 1.2 (not minimal, we need all libraries) works very smoothly. Never saw this on a 4.x rom. Sadly i still have SOD, but i'll try to confirm the CM7-like perfs on the CM10 smba1002 build.

Yes, I had that rather ominous looking glowing then fading effect with a corrupted Hannspree logo slowing dying in the middle. That's the glitch I described earlier. Certainly not a healthy looking response to the kernel....

After plenty of tweaking I'd say the kernel isn't at in any shape or form compatible with my pad. Unless Kameo has it working somehow?

I also don't think the smba9701 rom is the project that fosser2 is referring to in the quote I pasted above.

Still, certainly exciting that there is still plenty of dev work going on for the tegra 2 tablets.

Pretty sure it isn't. fosser2 has not finished his 3.1 kernel yet and from what I'm understanding the Hpad port is younger WIP. I think we'll see an alpha release for the Gtab before any more Hpad development will be seen. FWIW a stable/working 3.x (Gtab) kernel ported to the Hpad I think is a requirement before we can start to play with ICS/JB roms on it.

Sorry guys, been sick for some days. I was wrong, Fosser was greeting another guy : redeyedjedi

Impressive you got this booting! I'll keep my eyes on this for sure

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075906

All i did to manage to get to the android app launcher, was like i said, to use some tricks.
1st i've edited the install script with the correct folders, then the build.prop file.
It was always stuck at the CM logo, but i had no glitch.
Couldn't get an adb debug log, coz the computer i was using wasn't mine.

So i tried to factory reset the tab, install a working 4.1.2 rom, then flash this rom (without wiping anything).
That's how i managed to get it booting... but i must reckon, i don't think that this rom is going to work on our tab.
At least i'm way to sick to push my investigations much further.
Just popped in to let you know how i got it "semi-working" and don't waste your time.

Hello guys, thank you all for a great job in keeping Hannspad alive,
I had problems with stability on old Hannspad kernels too, and I noticed that Gtab kernel is working better for my needs (web browsing and movies)
so I ported TeamDRH 2.6.39 kernel.
I use it now for more than a month and my device is still running ;) so if anyone wants to try it here is the kernel
