Download firmware v1.2 from http://onda.cn/Table...x?ProductId=239
Unpack the .rar file. The file you are looking for is PhoenixSuitPacket_v1.0.4.msi
After installing it, run it and upgrade to v1.0.5
The onda.cn website is pretty slow. You may want to find another source for the Onda V972 v1.2 firmware.
I expect PhoenixSuit to work for all A31 based tablets, but I only used it for Onda V972.

If you have antivirus software, disable it while ugrading to PhoenixSuit 1.05 (and of course enable it again afterwards).

No link for standalone version , only update from 1.0.4

I thought mine was hanging while updating, but it turns out that there was a message window telling me that it would shut down before it would update. Of course they didn't program it so it would pop on top of the program window, so because it starts in the middle of the screen behind the phoenix main window, you will never see it and windows tells you the program isn't responding when you try clicking anywhere.

Try forcing access to the message window using task manager.

Unfortunately you bought a "better" device than Onda v812/972
From what I can see is that other manufacturers did a great job with firmwares. So Onda is the only one that need some skilled software developpers like you to make the most of their hardware.

my tablet i brought still havent been shipped yet because not in stock by the time a made the order and i'm thinking to exchange it to a onda 972. i dont know if nextway f9x will be good on firmware releases but i like it was cheap $209 and the back cover is plastic and not aluminum that it should transmit wifi much nicer since this chinise manufacture is cheap wifi modules

From what I have been reading the ainol novo9 is the worst of the firmwares.

maybe, but the best it they release firmware when other manufacture not even do that. the NEXTWAY f9x look got tablet for the price just is missing the 5mp camera that onda v972 has but for me i really dont use my tablet as camera. http://www.nextway.com.cn/

Why rule out the quad core chuwi v99? Great price/build quality! We could use your help with a custom ROM!

Will you also be working on a custom rom for the Onda tablets? Also, they released a another firmware update. 1.32. In order to install it, you need to have went from 1.2 to 1.21 and then to 1.32
