Pre-Requisite

* Installing ADB drivers and binaries, have a look here.

Root

We'll use Bin4ry's method that will work with Windows and *nix systems, just be sure that your device is listed when you type "adb devices" and follow the instructions on this thread

TWRP recovery

v2.3.3.0 C94_2a
v2.3.3.0 C94_3a

* Download the appropriate TWRP rar, extract it and push it to the internal memory (/sdcard), don't put it in any subfolder.
* Connect your C94 to the PC and type "adb shell", at the prompt type these commands:

su
[now the prompt will change from "$" to "#"]
cat /sdcard/recovery.img > /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
sync; sync; sync

* Turn off the tablet and start it keeping pressed VOL+ and POWER til the green LED will turn on.
* Now you can do backups / restores and install custom roms!

Probably but for obvious reasons I won't be able to try it. Anyway I guess that the recovery should work for any c94, I don't think there are too many changes between different revisions

Has anyone got any idea why I cannot install zips with twrp or why when inside twrd I can not search the sd card using the file manager?

I have a fine connection to the tablet (2a version) - can browse within windows and everything and write to the sd-card. USB debugging enabled. But adb sees no device and thus I cannot change the boot sector of my tablet. Under "Other Devices" my tablet is listed as SABRESD-MX6DQ.
My basic problem is that the Kindle application doesn't work. So I thought I should find another image to try. The Kindle application starts and stops before I can browse any book. Where can I find the error log?

I now have connection to the tablet within adb shell. But it won't accept the "su" command and thus I have no ability to act as root. So I am not permitted to overwrite mmcblk0p2

You can't get su until you root. Bin4ry method from xda works.
You the adb commands without going into adb shell.
