So, another Crystal for the list.. :D

SN: NOVO7CRYSTAL130108G23793
Build: 20121218
Android: 4.1.1

Kernel:
3.0.8-gcda87f3-dirty
chengan.tan@droid07-sz))
#8 SMP PREEMPT Tue Dec 18 11:06:45 CST 2012

I had root access out of the box, but without any app to manage the access (no Superuser or SuperSU). However, Titanium Backup reports root and backup/restore apps works perfectly, Terminal Emulator gets me a # prompt from su without any prompting for root, and ES File Manager lets me browse to root and into /system etc. etc.

Have had some minor trouble connecting to my WiFi at home, but from what I've read this is normal for routers that don't broadcast their SSID though. Testing it at work (with broadcasting SSID) it connects perfectly every time.

Not sure if anybody needs more info than this, if you do, let me know. I'm not planning to install a custom ROM just yet, it's running quite nicely as it is, so I'll be keeping it stock for a while. :)

so I do have the 121203 with g0 after that, right after unboxing I installed cm10 with comp pack for batch2 and it does work. the TWRP recovery for batch3 does not boot but batch2 works. Also I did not had any issue with cpu1 going to sleep and being unable to wake up.

Anyway, anyone know what's the difference between comp packs for batch3 and batch2?

I think that's more a case of which batch you actually have.. The genuine batch 3 tabs shipped with the chengnan.tan kernel, while those with the grady.wang kernel were virtually identical (and therefore compatible) with the batch 2 stuff on SlateDroid. I might be wrong, but I think the 121203 might have possibly come with the grady.wang kernel.

Err I have 121208, 08, not 03, typo. But again, I do wonder if we shoudn't have comp packs for batch3.1 and 3.2 because if the change between g0 and g1 is only bootloader then what's are the other things?

@ zeekhopri - It depends on the build date in the serial number but it's either a batch 1 or batch 2. There's a thread that tells you how to figure it out here.

@ Amauta - Looks like you might have a region specific device but because it has the chengnan.tan kernel, I would guess it's the chengnan.tan batch 3. However, you run a risk of bricking it since no one has reported that kernel before.

@ jabberuser - As far as I can tell the only discernible difference between the batch 2 and 3 is the kernel and bootloader. The chengnan.tan batch 3 that I unbricked using my method is now 100% compatible with all batch 2 stuff. However, there are now reports of people with the chengnan.tan kernel who have used batch 3 comp zips and the camera is green screen. So that might mean a Batch 3 and batch 3.1 but both came with the chengnan.tan kernel. The grady.wang "batch 3" is 100% still a batch 2, so we shouldn't call it a batch 3 at all. It's got the same build date as the chengnan.tan kernel but there is no difference from the batch 2 Crystals.

So quick summary is that 121208 with G0 is a 100% batch2-compatible, from my testing there is no cpu1 sleep/wakeup issue and it is unable to boot batch3 TWDP recovery.

You think there should be batch1, 2+3 and 3.1 comp packs instead of 1, 2 and 3?

FYI, grady wang kernel is basically clone from batch 2..so its (has bigger probability) compatible with custom room for batch

the original batch 3 is cheng tan.. there are 2 of my friend who havw successfully flash CC 1.5/1.6 on 121208++ with grady wang kernel..

if yours are grady wang, then maybe u can flash it with custom room, but remember DWYOR

- ZTE BLADE 2 (robbed by a robber :( )
- IMO GLORY S78/ALPS (sold)
- AINOL NOVO7 CRYSTAL [BATCH3]

Mine showed up this afternoon. Purchased on ########### from a US seller.

Serial on the back is: 130108G22009

Kernel version in the system info is:
3.0.8-gcda87f3-dirty
chengnan.tan@droid07-sz) )
#8 SMP PREEMPT Tue Dec 18 11:06:45
CST 2012

Build number: 20121218

Been reading a bunch of threads around here trying to figure out "what's what." Best as I can tell this is one of the Batch 3 units and it may be wise to hold off on flashing a new ROM to it until some of the compatibility issues get worked out?

It's the same kernel as the other batch 3 Crystals but with any new build you never know what hardware they might have changed. So you probably wouldn't brick your tablet if you flashed a custom ROM with a batch 3 zip but you might end up with a broken camera or something. There have definitely been reports so far of people with batch 3 crystal's that have a different camera. It's pretty annoying having so many hardware changes. The best place to keep up to date with all that stuff is this thread.

Hey.. Yeah, I did keep the backup, my apologies for taking so long to upload it though, I've been dealing with lawyers and doctors for an ongoing court case, so I've been travelling quite a bit.

I'm uploading it to my Dropbox now, I'll let you know when it's done. :)

Edit: Hmmm... This may take a while, I'm only getting about 20Kb/s upload speed. ETA is 4 hours away. I'll send you links and MD5 checksums as soon as it finishes uploading though.

@Pratyush Crys: I zipped the backup files and stuck in my Dropbox folder [link].

Important Note: This backup was taken from a chengnen.tan kernel batch 3 Novo 7 Crystal, stock ROM, nothing installed or modified, I did a full system wipe (factory restore) immediately before I made the backup.

To check the downloads, MD5 checksums for the main zip and for the files it contains are in the attached text file. Hope that helps.

Thanks for clarifying. I've been reading all the threads a number of times and keeping track of the batches, kernels, ROMs and what works with what is...tough. If a borked camera is the likeliest problem I'll run into, that's an acceptable risk since I'm sticking it in my car's glovebox to use as a music source, navigation, etc. I'm no stranger to rooting and flashing ROMs, but it's always been on more mainstream hardware. These things are a whole 'nother ballgame!
