Hey AC Slater,

Thanks for all the updates on the RK3188. I cannot wait to see the first tablets based on this SoC. :good:

Well now, the first A31 tablets are now in users hands and to be honest I am completely underwhelmed.
The GPU seems impressive especially for the clock speed but the CPU is quite poor and they seem to be hampered by a low 1Ghz clock speed and poor battery life.

I have a Ramos W30HD on loan and it is a very nice tablet but it seems that the Exynos 4412 is the opposite of the A31 i.e. very strong CPU performance with OK GPU. It is better balanced than the A31 but still not perfect. I guess I should also consider the Retina screen factor. The Onda V972 screen is 2048 x 1536 so is pushing ~ 3.1 million pixels while the Ramos W30HD is 1920 x 1200 so is pushing ~ 2.3 million. Compare this to a normal 1024 x 768 screen (~ 780,000 pixels) or 1280 x 800 screen (~ 1 million pixels) and you can see that the Retina screen models have to work much harder. Although I really like the screen on the Ramos I would be happier with 1280 x 800 and a longer battery life. Of course both SoCs would also perform better at this resolution.

What we need is more of a balanced performance, ideally strong in both aspects especially on Retina screens. If the RK3188 can pull this off then this will definitely be the one to watch. In fact it goes to show what a great job Rockchip did with the "old" RK3066 which can still give some of these tablets a run for their money. Also manufacturers need to put in bigger batteries for Retina screens or else I cannot see the point.

Jez

I agree about the retina screens. I don't want to give up battery and performance to have a retina screen. being a tablet, battery is hugely important and the main reason I haven't jumped on any of the china pads yet. I'm really hoping someone does it right with the 3188 tablets.

actually the best rk3066 Tablet far as Battery Spec wise out of a 9.7'inch tablet is the Vido N90FHD (Formerly Window). real time i would assume maybe* 8hrs

Seems like Vido / Window / Yuandao, whatever they call themselves  , are gonna integrate the RK3188 into some tablets.
9.7", 10.1", 7" and even an 7.85" (iPad mini alike) quadcore version tablets: N90, N101, N70 and N785.

You mean 7.85" (N785). =) Not 8.75".

7.85" is getting too close to 7". Only 0.85" diagonal difference. Could also mean slightly smaller battery. Also, this makes the size difference larger between it & 9.7" or 10.1" tablets.

*MINIX NEO X5 (RK3066) - OK. Not fun because uses mouse cursor.
*YUANDAO N80 DUAL (RK3066) - Very good
*CUBE U30GT (RK3066)- Defective; buttons broke in 2-3 weeks; Bad quality control!!! I will never buy a Cube again!!! - Very good while working
*WOPAD I7 (RK2918)- About OK. Sluggish because has weaker ARM chip (RK2918) & less RAM (512 MB).

In a blog I found some news about the first listed RK3188 tablet: Pipo M9
Resolution 1280×800, 10.1 inch screen, 7800mAh battery

http://blog.wholesal...m9-lising-news/

Here are some videos:

Perhaps we should start a new topic "Listed RK3188 Tablet"

cool. I think I will now wait til the Vido 7.85" model is out. I was thinking about getting their N80IPS but I'll wait a bit. I think the N80IPS would be plenty good for what I need, but perhaps the new quad core tablet will drive the price down considerably on the N80IPS

Certainly looks promising! Forget the Novo10 Captain... (unless they'll last minute change the Actions SoC to Rockchip RK3188), this is what's happenin' yo. :drinks:
The powerful RK3188 solution. 2GB RAM. 10.1" 1920x1200. Tempered glass in combination with a roll cage design to reduce external impact. Bluetooth. HDMI-out. Dualcam, backfacing with LED. Loud AAC speaker.
Just hoping they will come with a black bezelled one... and one other important spec was missing! mAh! I need to know the battery capacity. E.g. the Ramos W30HD looked great too, but white bezel/design, 5400mAh and no HDMI-out. Stuff like that makes me unforgiving: no can do. Let's see how the Cube will turn out!

PiPO M9 will have 7800mAh. Has an interesting (different) design.
1280x800 might soon not be the standard anymore though...

Greetings:

Has anyone found any antutu benchmarks for this RockChip RK3188?

For the AllWinner A31 Quad Core CPU, some 10 inch tablets are scoring 12,500 on the Antutu BenchMark Scale.

Tegra 3 tablets are scoring 10,300.
