Yes the gc1000 is the one thing putting me off. Would be interested in the Tajii score too.

Jez

I think mobile gpu mark (by silicon studios) would be more exciting to see on it.Should be far more taxing.

Guys, remember, it has something completely different in there than any previous Ainol tablet.
It integrates both a quadcore 3D GPU + singlecore dedicated 2D GPU.
If 'GC1000 Plus' means it has 5 cores, then okay, it's a Vivante... but still I haven't seen anything that excludes something else (except for the fact it can't be the normal dualcore-config GC1000).
It could still just as well be something like Mali400 of Mali450, even Ainol making use of the PowerVR SGX 544 is not out of the question, I'd say.
Remember it can output high quality 3D 1080P 60fps low-bitrate footage as well as outputting 4K-resolution, with it's 5 (!) cores for graphic processing...

I'm pretty sure I will be pleased, altough I'm not even so much of the 'Full Bluray 3D/First person shooter hardcore games' et cetera anyways.

Not different. Check out other SOCs in my post here.
http://www.slatedroi...post__p__472873

For instance, RK3066 has 2D graphics engine (ie. 2D GPU), 3D GPU (Mali400MP4), JPEG encoder & decoder, Image pre & post processor and 1080p decoder & encoder. ie. Mali400 appears to only be used for 3D gaming.

Other SOCs seem to have similar setup too for multimedia.

From benchmark testing I have seen, ATM7029 appears to have weak GPU. For instance, it scores 100% less in Vellamo's HTML5 & Metal compared to my N80 (RK3066). Sure, there is resolution difference between them but I cannot see that causing more than 25-30% difference at most. Also, Antutu 3 results for 2D & 3D are low too.

*MINIX NEO X5 (RK3066) - OK. Not fun because uses mouse cursor.
*YUANDAO N80 DUAL (RK3066) - Very good
*CUBE U30GT (RK3066)- Defective; buttons broke in 2-3 weeks; Bad quality control!!! I will never buy a Cube again!!! - Very good while working
*WOPAD I7 (RK2918)- About OK. Sluggish because has weaker ARM chip (RK2918) & less RAM (512 MB).

Ah, that clears up a lot about the process for en- and decoding video, but what I hear is 'GC1000 this and that' and I still don't get how they relate the GPU(s) of the Hero II to an 'old' crappy dualcore GC1000 (even if the quadcore solution might not seem quite up there too), to me it's like saying 'this banana I have here tastes like crap, because I ate an apple from the same fruitbasket before and it didn't taste to my likings', I don't get the relation if the subjects seem to be two different things, but you make conclusions by judging only one.

Haven't looked into/found any benchmarks to be honest, so good point there checking that out.
Am curious about the reallife performance, though, since I'm not high demanding (not really the ultra details first persons shooter gamer), I bet it will be great enough.
Please feel free to share benchmarkscreenies and links if you come across anything like that, so people that come here are best informated and can compare and draw their informed conclusions.

Yes, Taiji is better than GLBenchmark. I think Taiji score would hardly be 25 for this tablet.

Antutu 3.0.x Scores

      Hero II N80
ATM7029 @ 1.2 GHz (x4) RK3066 @ 1.6 GHz (x2)

Total: 12423 11977

N80 results from my tablet
Hero II results from mc bub

Notice, Hero II gets higher total score but that is because it scores very well on RAM, CPU (INT & FPU). The 2D score is still good but not great. The 3D score is bad!!! Around 108% difference. ATM7029 will suck for 3D gaming. It is very weak on 3D and SD read maybe weak too. Everything else checks out really well for ATM7029.

Vellamo
            Hero II N80
HTML5 859 1668
Metal 251 500

Hero II results from mc bub
N80 results from my tablet

Cannot give direct link to mc bub because that website is blocked on here. Probably bad seller. mc bub, as one word, gets changed to *******. Search for "mc bub blog" and then search on there for the Hero II review.

I do not have a working 1280x800 RK3066 tablet so I used my N80 to compare with. N80 has slightly lower resolution and will have a "slight" advantage. Maybe 15%?

GPU is not Mali400. Mc bub says GC1000 on their site for Hero II.
Antutu says: Made by: Advanced Graphics Corporation, GPU: S5 Multicore Engine
http://www.slatedroi...post__p__472789

a] GPU is either GC1000 and re-branded by ATM7029 to look like S5 multicore in Antutu or
b] it is S5 multicore (some Chinese GPU?) but I never heard Advanced Graphics Corporation or S5 GPU either before today.

Companies can lie about or re-brand the GPU in ATM7029 but cannot fool the GPU benchmark results!!! =)

PS, Hero II listed as 1.5 GHz but Antutu only shows 1.2 GHz clock speed. Very likely only clocked at 1.2 GHz instead. Just like how A31 appears to only be clocked at 1 GHz, according to Antutu, instead of 1.3 & 1.4 GHz that I have seen stated by sellers.

Actually, GLBenchmark is better because it does multiple tests and gives lots of info. Like triangle count, fillrate, GPU performance with different tests, etc.

I use Taiji for my 2nd GPU test but GLBenchmark will always be my #1 choice for GPU benchmarks. =)

According to glbenchmark it pretty much provides half the performance of the gc2000 , so it might be a customized version of gc1000.

From 54-115% worse compared to GC2000 depending what you look at. Whether GC1000 or "other" type of GPU does not matter because performance is what counts. ATM7029's GPU is much weaker than Mali400MP4 in RK3066.

I saw the same thing with Antutu & Vellamo benches which strongly pointed out weaker GPU on the ATM7029 chip.

I even threw in Ainol Fire to show how Mali400MP2 almost beats S5 in every GLBenchmark test. ie, 8726-MX's GPU is about 22-37% better depending what you look at.
HERO II VS MX6DQ VS U30GT-H VS FIRE

The triangle count on S5/GC1000 is really great but the fillrate is what seems to hold back the performance on it.

I believe the A31 & RK3188 to be the better ARM chips coming out. Both of them should have strong 3D performance and provide really great 3D gaming too.

*MINIX NEO X5 (RK3066) - OK. Not fun because uses mouse cursor.

Hello all...Good Day!!

Anybody got ideas regarding the firmware update for Hero II Quad Core. My device is arriving tomorrow and it will be helpful for me if some has done it already. I saw in Ainol site, this is(20130104-V1) the latest update for Ainol Hero Quadcore.

The link is not working. I am getting slatedroid forum rules. Please send it to my email shijopj2004@hotmail.com

By the way, can we update the Hero Quadcore to CyanogenMod 10.1?

I haven't found measurements for power consumption. I threw a idea on a another forum for real life power consumption test and found volunteer to perform this test on his Hero 1:

- 1h 11m 33s of Lady Gaga. 1.5GB@720p
- Official Youtube player from Play. Quality "HD".
- Screen at full brightness, no sounds(nobody really wants to hear Gaga), battery fully charged to 100%.

Screen will probably consume more than SOC itself but i hope to see some kind of comparable results.

just received stock for this Ainol Novo10 Hero II tablet. I must say the build quality of Ainol is improving dramatically. This is very well build. Felt solid and good quality. Haven't had chance to test on the internal apps yet. Just want to mention about the build quality of this tablet.

Nice looking tablet for sure. :good:
I've been using 7" tablets ever since my first and only 10.1" tablet: the Archos 101 IT; I forgot how big 10.1" was.
Enough space to nicely use Sketchbook Pro for example.

There is some Chinese bloatware installed, but once you get rid of it, clean it up a little, it's a pretty nice tablet to have in use.
Am not the hardcore 3D Gamer and don't require max performance from my tablet all the time, so so far, so good.
Scrolling within the browser wasn't particulary ultra fluid, same for some transition animations, don't know if it is scientifically supported, though forcing GPU rendering for 2D seemed to have smoothend it a little out I would almost say.

I love all the freebies... and it came in taxfree. I'd say it's not a showstealer performance wise, but realisticly speaking, where would you get such a nice tablet for 194 USD / 147 EUR? Still think it might be a pretty good deal for some people. Surely I will replace it with a nice RK3188 tablet. But untill those will appear, for me personally, this is a nice in-betweener.

Hi,

I am struggling upgrading to 2013-01-04-V1 firmware using the Tablet Product Tool. It does not appaer to load the jellybean_atm7029_10_a_130104.fw file and I am left with the Replace Firmware windows without any details.

Has anyone else had this problem and got round it?

Hi,

Is anyone aware of custom firmware for the Hero 2? I am particulary after something that improves the wifi range and allows BBC iPlayer to use the app instead of the website... I am using ECR v1.1a on an early Novo 7 Aurora which is excellent.

@firmware-flash problems

i have read on chinese forum this may be a bug
- with windows 8
- may be a corrupt file for downloading-process
- or may be a general problem.

- or may be this little solution:

just try to rename the directory of the files.
your PC cannot display chinese language, so it displays a lot of rectangles. Just change the directory name to eg test and try again.

here have a user a equal problem with loading firmware-file:
