You can try from here: http://www.bigbuckbu...x.php/download/
You can try diferent formats (1080p, 720p...)

I'm downloading to 1080 files. However, these are .avi, .mov and .ogg not mkv.
If you need actual mkv files let me know where I can download samples files.

I've just noticed a typo in one of my earlier posts.
"1080 looks really good and plays with a problem." should read 1080 looks really good and plays without a problem.

Do you mean V972Core4_v1.1.rar and V972Core4_v1.02.rar? These are the two files on the Onda website.
1.1 is the latest update. My device came with 1.02 installed.

Hey fellow V972 users, generally I'm pretty happy with it so far but I have two questions:
1. Does 4K play smooth for any of you? For me it looks like it's skipping every 2 seconds... And the original 4K demo video seems to run around 12FPS. 1080p plays without an issue.
2. How high is your write speed in Antutu? I saw V812 scores 50+ mb/s, while my V972 with 1.1 scores around 12mb... Do I have some problem or is this the same for all of you?

Thank you!

Here are some benchmarks using fw 1.1

AnTuTu
Total Score 11167
CPU: 4715
GPU: 4102
1008 MHz (x4) [1536x1952]
RAM: 1502
I/O: 848
In the bar chart the V972 comes in under the Asus Transformer Prime.

Quadrant Standard
Total: 3081
CPU: 7069
Mem: 2126
I/O: 3050
2D: 980
3D: 2180
In the bar chart the V972 comes in under the Asus Transformer Prime TF201

GLB 2.5.1
Performance Test - All
Fill rate 677444928 texels/sec
Fill Rate offscreen - 716206464 texels/sec
Triangle throughput: textured - 8622695 triangles/sec
Triangle throughput: textured offscreen - 16861098 triangles/sec
See screen shots for the other results.

The 1080 MP4 surround avi, H264 .mov, and the MSMP4 stereo 1080 files of the Big Buck Bunny movie all play well in 4K VideoPlayer (I can't get the ogg version to play). Movies played from the micro SD card.

Jumping/scrubbing to different points doesn't phase the player and playback continues straight away without any blocking or errors. If you keep jumping around the app eventually stops responding for a short while but the video kept playing without a problem.

The battery has just lasted about 4.5 hours from a full charge. I hour last night, 3.5 hours this morning.
In sleep mode over night there did not appear to be any power loss. Battery was at 73% when I closed it last night and it was still at 73% this morning. Screen is set to 25% brightness. This was only the second charge though.

Wifi is OK - It is at about 1 bar less than my laptop. Have tried a few different places now. At Starbucks I had 4 bars on my laptop and 3 on the Onda. In the office I have 5 bars on the laptop and 4 on the Onda.

I am very happy with the performance but concerned about the battery life. I am hoping it improves after a few more charges.
A 4 hour battery life makes the device almost unusable for me outside of home.

4.5 hours is on the very low side. I just realized this tablet is high resolution. That will knock off about 35% of battery life. Also, A31 seems to use more power than RK3066. Could be it spends lots of time on the high CPU frequencies??? For instance, my RK3066 tablet spends most of the time @ 252 MHz (73.67%) - usually 65-75%. 2nd is 1.4 GHz w/6.78%. 3rd is 816 MHz with 6.32%. Would have to check whether V972 was clocking down or not when idle.

Also, almost all tablets I have seen lose power in sleep mode. Maybe V972 does not or maybe the battery meter needed some mins. to adjust. Better to shut off instead to get the real total use time.

*MINIX NEO X5 (RK3066) - OK. Not fun because uses mouse cursor.
*YUANDAO N80 DUAL (RK3066) - Very good
*CUBE U30GT (RK3066)- Defective; buttons broke in 2-3 weeks; Bad quality control!!! I will never buy a Cube again!!! - Very good while working
*WOPAD I7 (RK2918)- About OK. Sluggish because has weaker ARM chip (RK2918) & less RAM (512 MB).

Thanks for the benchmark results. The GPU looks very good especially considering the 1 Ghz clock speed and screen resolution. I think the A31 is supposed to run at 1.3 or 1.4 Ghz although it seems to be clocked at 1 Ghz in both the V812 and V972. I read on another forum that a future firmware upgrade is supposed to increase the clock speed. We will see but this might also affect battery life.

For comparison I ran the same benchmarks on the Ramos W30HD (Exynos 4412) with 1920 x 1200 retina screen. The CPU and RAM results on the Ramos seem much better whereas the GPU results seem much worse than the Onda. Also note that the clock speed on the Ramos is running at a max of 1.4Ghz compared to 1Ghz on the Onda.

Ramos W30HD benchmark results
Antutu:
CPU:7590
GPU:2795
RAM: 3142
I/O: 887
1400 Mhz (x4) [1200 x 1848]

Fwiw Quadrant seems to confirm these results with a strong CPU but weaker GPU.

Quadrant Standard
Total: 4913
CPU: 12674
Mem: 4363
I/O: 5911
2D: 324
3D: 1293

GLB 2.5.1
Performance Test - All
Fill rate 683,060,032 texels/sec
Fill Rate offscreen - 677,615,744 texels/sec
Triangle throughput: textured - 5,663,582 triangles/sec
Triangle throughput: textured offscreen - 7,905,775 triangles/sec

The GPU on the A31 again seems better here especially considering the clock speed difference.

Hi Nickos-V, Yes the battery results don't seem great :( Wonder if they will improve over time. You could be right about the frequency governing.

FYI here's the Ramos results. Mr Turtle if you run Android System Info from the Play Store and look at the System tab and expand CPU you should be able to see what frequencies your tablet is using as well as the range and current frequency.

On the Ramos after a full charge I am down 41% after 3.5 hours mixed usage with screen on 3/4 brightness and wifi on all the time (it's running Android 4.0.4 btw).

Frequency rage: 384.0 -> 1008.0 MHz.
At 384 34.5%
At 1008 46%

I just checked the info on the Taobao seller site where I bought the device. They list the CPU as 1.6 GHz (處理器主頻: 1.6GHz) ;-)
http://detail.tmall....?id=16671998138

Android System Info shows the screen resolution as 2048x1440 not 2048x1536.

I assume that the other 19.5% of the time is spent between those two values.

Chinese suppliers often get details wrong. I just checked my order and Eternal are advertising it at 1 Ghz :(

The missing 96 pixels are for the status bar so that's normal. You still have the advertised resolution don't worry.

The 3rd & 4th most used speeds would be good to know too. =) But not as important.

OK. That looks very bad.

Seems V972 spends almost 50% of the time @ 1 GHz speed. Also, lowest clock speed is only 384 MHz compared to 200/252 for Exynos Quad & RK3066.

My N80 (RK3066) spends at least 75% of the time under 1 GHz. 25% @ 1-1.6 GHz. Anywhere from 65%+ @ 252 MHz. Ramos W30HD (Exynos Quad) spends 74% @ under 1 GHz with about 62% @ 200-400 MHz.

Also, A31 spends close to half the amount of time at the lower clock speeds compared to RK3066 & Exynos Quad. ie. A31 should be at least 60% @ 384 MHz instead of 35%. Lots of time spent @ highest clock speed. ie. 46%. Compare that to RK3066 & Exynos Quad spending 25% & 24% @ 1+ GHz.

Edit: switching governors should help improve this issue and hopefully give somewhat better battery results.

1.1 is the latest update. My device came with 1.02 installed.

thank you for your response, what is the android version with the V1.1 rar ? and can someone tell me if OTG work with a USB keys with this version ?

What do you think, have any chance for CM 10.1 rom? or any other custom rom for this device, because these roms (1.1 and 1.02) is realy lagy. (games run greats, but browser, and other programs are slow)

Sorry, I was being lazy. Here is the full range taken this morning.

It appears there may be different versions.

My device is 1008 Mhz but on another site (http://www.androidta...-onda-v972.html) a benchmark shows 1488 MHz. They get a better overall score. My score 11153, theirs 11501.

FW 1.1 is Android 4.1.1

A regular USB keyboard worked as soon as I connected it. Couldn't get a Logitech USB wireless keyboard to work though (small USB receiver).

Here is couple (download original MP4):

Played in 4KVideoPlayer from a thumb drive connected via an OTG cable.

- GoPro 3 Black 2-7K ProTune (2704x1536 / 28MB)
Plays good. Scrubbing and jumping on the timeline works well.

/ GoPro 1080p 60 FPS ProTune Medium Angle (1920x1080 / 32MB)
Plays OK. After about 20 seconds of jumping around on the timeline the timeline stopped responding but the video continued to play OK. No idea if I was actually getting 60 fps though.
