Can you tell us, what kind of utilities do you use to unpack onda firmware?
Maybe link for a manual?

HI guys.. I have just got my Nextway F9x today - similar to onda v972 retina Allwinner a31..

after only 1 hour I managed to kill it by installing a DPI modder and changing the dpi from 320 to 240... no I just get a black screen.

How do I get into recovery so I can do a factory reset.. .??

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Cool sound good. What rom rom will it be bases on? Om on the Custom v1.32. Rooted rom. IT works but not very reliable. It has browser lockups alle the time. This is my second atempt writing a reply, first time i gave up. Nova launcher, Stock uninstalled seems to make it more stable, and dolphin browser seems to work best.

Did you happen to use a crappy USB connector or front panel port?

Turned out you were right, kind of. So thanks!!! :good: Not a cable problem, though. I think the flashing requires more juice than a standard usb port can deliver. I tried putting in a powered usb hub between the v972 and micro usb cable. Now it would connect and flashing with Phoenix Suite worked! However, after flashing completed, I was unable to get the tablet started. Same as before, screen completely dead. Then I waited a while, and for no good reason i plugged in the charger. BOOM. Turned on. Now it seems to be working fine, albeit in Chinese. I'm so happy right now, I'm thinking of intentionally bricking it again so I can relive this moment. :yahoo:

Edit: Okay, seems you should be careful with what you wish for. The tablet seemed fine. Changed language to English, and then BAM, it froze and I had to long-press the power button to restart. Now it won't boot up again, and the screen doesn't seem to work. I wonder if the battery's been exhausted by all this. How would you proceed? Try to flash another version than 1.32? Should I try to charge the tablet? (Will it charge... there's no battery indicator on the screen or anything!!)

Excellent progress so far with this tablet. After having a nightmare weekend with it having to do many reflashes so fairly happy now with the exception of missing apps in the play store. Now we have this and my nemesis that is ADB, just can't get my head around it so any tips on how to use and go about this would be great as I'm really going to have to learn how to use it . Msav does flashing the new recovery wipe your device and having to start from from scratch. Will be great to be finally able to do back ups before tinkering

Ok.
But the pc doesent seem to recognize my tablet. Have tried "adb shell" commands in terminal,
and nothing happens.
Also tried the commands for geeks in terminal on tablet that also fails.
I am new to this and are possibly doing much wrong.

Would be very happy if someone could make a instruction for dummies on this.
Thanks

Ok cwm for dumbies.

You do not need ADB, but you do need root!

copy the 3 files that are in the zip file to root of you sdcard (not extsd)

install a terminal emulator on your tablet. (free on google play)

open the terminal emulator on your tablet

type the command below

su
you will be prompted for root, accept

then type the command this installs CWM recovery.

busybox sh /sdcard/install-recovery.sh

To reboot into recovery run this command

busybox sh /sdcard/reboot-recovery.sh

That is it. all done make a backup when you boot into recovery. and then copy the clockwork backup directory off to your computer for safe keeping.

Thank you msav!
Just what i needed.

By the way its an app called "Mobile Uncle" we can use to reboot to recovery. You may
have to sideload it.

Thanks

I'd be really careful. His Ainol Crystal ROM took months of promises and donation request and ended up sending dozens if users to my unbricking thread, then he "discontinued" it. Then he promised an Ainol Hero ROM, sourced a bunch of donations and "discontinued" that without a release. Read the threads over there. I donated for the Crystal ROM and was really disappointed, but at least it sparked my interest in firmware development and I ended up making my own instead.

If anything, I'd keep an eye on Christian Troy. I've heard from a reliable source he's looking into Ainol Quad cores, so If it work, a CM10 comp patch for you would be easy.
If I've helped you set-up your new tablet, unbrick your device or if you use and enjoy my Amlogic AML8726-M Series ROM's
please consider a donation.
My ROMS - *Crystal Clear (Ainol Crystal) *Anti-Hero (Ainol Hero) *Elenari (Ainol Elf2) *Astronautica (Ainol Aurora2) *Karbonn Custom (Karbonn SmartTab ST8 & ST10)
My DEVICES - *HP Touchpad *Ainol Crystal *Ainol Hero *Ainol Fire *Cube U30GT Mini-S *Nexus 7 (2013)
I don't respond to most PM's just because of the amount I get. If you have a question the best way to get an answer is to post in one of my threads.
