Hello, i just wanted to link the latest firmware for the tablet i got. I read around that some other people got it and some others have got their tablets bricked flashing firmware, so figured i should i share my experience:

First, be aware that Gadmei released two "sub-models" of the E8HD, mainly distinguished by the CPU clock speed. The first ones were clocked at 1.2 GHz and the later ones clocked at 1.5 Ghz. Apparently if you mix up the FW, you risk killing the tablet.

Second, for the 1.5 GHz model, the October 11 FW is bricking tablets, or was bricking tablets, and Gadmei support apparently didn't share any working solutions. So... it seems Gadmei software support is not quite up to good standards...

So, i set out to find out the clock speed of my tablet, and in the back side of the box it said clearly 1.2 GHz, even when the ########### listing said 1.5Ghz.

Then i downloaded the 1.2Ghz FW from August 17. It fixed some things, added software volume buttons, killed Netflix, still didn't solve audio skipping, etc.

The flashing procedure was: downloaded a 160+ MB zip, unzipped on the external SD card, hold volume(+) and power to enter recovery, then flash two ZIPs (something OTA.zip, patch something.zip).

Since i still had audio issues and netflix didn't work, i entered the chinese forums again, without translate, and i saw a topic "1.2GHz"... "[1023]", i.e., a firmware for my tablet and barely days old.

So i flashed it, but this time, i don't know if the recovery was changed or what, but volume(+) and power, resulted in the tablet directly flashing the ZIPs, without presenting the recovery menu.

Anyway, after it finished flashing, now i had skinned notifications toggle, screenshot button, working Netflix and Youtube, working audio, i could install some tablets apps it previously didn't let me install.

One weird thing was that it appeared to mess up the screen refresh rate, but after turning the tablet off, it went back to normal. HW issue?

So, links:

Hope it's of some use to someone somewhere.
Cheers.

I'd like to know if this 8" tablet is worth getting? Does it work as it suppose to or does it come with a truck load of defects?

Gadmei engineers had to wait for the first bricked devices returning to verify the problem. There is already an unbricking procedure and an updated firmware from October 26 available which works fine on my 1,5 GHz model. Was also able to root the firmware with the 'hewuqiku' files. Just waiting for finally arriving a Jelly Bean release for our tablet (still seems to be in beta state).

Hi I bought a Gadmei E8hd 1.5, and i quite like it now, I got it after the reports of the 1011(i think) firmware bricking tablets so managed to avoid that pitfall, I installed the 1026 version and its fine.

I did have problems getting the play store to work, i kept getting -101 download errors on whatever i tried to download. Turns out its not really a device or software problem but a google problem. Anyway thats fixed now.

I also had problems with bad wifi, I had to stand next to my router to get a signal to stay on and it did, sometimes! Anyway I read something about various mobile devices not liking WEP encryption which is what the router i was trying to connect to was using (its not mine so couldnt just change it). So i got permission from the house mates to change to WPA2-PSK and bingo, its good, I now like my Gadmei :yahoo:

Im in Beijing and the market is really slow so havent got many apps installed, no games so cant say what its like with them. I did download AnTuTu and got a score of 7673, dont really know what that means, ive never benched a tablet before.

I also rooted with the same thing mentioned above.

Hope that was some help to you.

I just order a Gadmei E8-3D even if I can find support for it. In fact even on there web site I can't find anything. Since the only difference is the screen, could anyone be kind enough to send me info about E8-3D (link, firmware, etc...)
