TM doesn't have this problem so doesn't need patch :D

My TM definitely has the mosquito sound. In fact if I try to make a phone call using the tablet the mosquito sound is so loud that the other person can barely hear me.

I am running Feyiu's 1031. Wondering if I can use this patch to decrease the buzz.

Did you note your original build version to be absolutely sure it's a TM? Installing a firmware designed for a different model screen will at best not work properly or at worst destroy your device.

You could first try and poke the pwm driver with different register values to change the frequency as a test. Find the thread called zap dat mozzy and find the posts with the instructions. It doesn't make any permanent changes like overwriting your kernel with the wrong screen type, which is what the patch would do.

Yep. Mine is a 20120918.tm Android 4.0.4, kernel version 3.0.8

I'll read up on zap dat mozzy

Or I suppose I could possibly go back to 930 rom and then apply the patch?

Let me try and make this clear.

THE PATCH WILL OVERWRITE THE KERNEL. APPLYING THE QM MOSQUITO PATCH TO A TM FIRE WILL MAKE YOUR SCREEN GO DARK. DO NOT DO IT. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

I need to make a correction.
The mosquito noise is ONLY when I don't have the screen at full brightness.

So when I need to make a call, I'll just be sure to have it at full brightness.
Sometimes a workaround works well enough as a solution.

Has Ainol not rectified the problem in the new batches? - It has been around for pretty long time now.
Any of the recent owners can confirm please?

Thanks,

Sony.

Okay, I dl'd the patch and after unzipping it went into recovery mode. But, it doesn't show anything in the recovery mode in the folders. No files or anything. Was I not supposed to unzip it or what?

Edit: So, after trail and error, I discovered what I needed to do. You don't unzip the files.

Nope, it's still there. My new Fire has a TM screen and the mosquito sound is clearly audible. It only stops if you set brightness to max or min.

A work around to get rid of mosquito noise in TM screen, try the following
(this is on original feiyu 4.0.4 rom that came with the flame)

-Download and install "Screen Filter" app (by HaxorIndustry).
-Set tablet brightness to 100% (done via System Settings)
-Goto launcher/widgets , look for ScreenFilter and set to desktop
-Slide brightness level to, for example, 50% , and Save
-Now click onto the ScreenFilter widget on your desktop for 50% brightness.

You should have no more mosquito noises.

You can place and set additional ScreenFilter widgets for different brightness levels.
I have 10%, 30%, 50%, 70%

Hope this helps.

<< Note: To install non-store apps/apk, ScreenFilter needs to be turned off temporarily >>

Interesting! This seems to work with the lifeiyu roms! The reason seems to be that android brightness is still at 100%, hence no mosquito noise but actual brightness has been indirectly reduced by the screen filter program..

Imho it should work with any rom.
