There should be a txt file in /mnt/sdcard, a version.txt that tells you when you open it, and/or a txt file with the name of the ROM as the filename (like ZT285_H8_1a_1GB_Android4.0_1205_V1.12.txt would mean you have the 1205 ROM).....

Thanks. Looks like I am running 1116 and 1205 will address the on/off button hang which requires a reset through the pinhole. I have experienced this 4-5 times now which is annoying. I will download and apply 1205 to confirm any improvements

Other than that, the C94 is NOT a slow tablet. I wanted one of the fastest cheap tablets around and I think this may be it. As fast as Asus Transformer for almost a fraction of the price?! Here are my Antutu and Quadrant scores!

Cheers.

OK, so I am told by Zenithink that there are two versions out right now, the H8_1a and the H8_2a...
If the barcode sticker only says H8 with no 1a or 2a, you have a H8_1a C94.....

They aren't making a Jelly Bean ROM till they iron out all the bugs out of ICS, and they aren't posting a download for a C94 ROM since they are updating it so frequently....

I am also told that there are only a few 1a tablets out, and in the future all will be 2a....

They gave me a download link for the latest ICS ROMs for both the 1a and 2a versions (they are different), but they asked me not to post it (don't know why, waiting for a reply), so if you do need to reflash your tablet, PM me for the download link....

1126 ICS ROM for 1a readme.txt:

1129 ICS ROM for 2a readme.txt:

(Just wanted to share the C94 info I got from Zenithink...)

Can you send me the 2apic link?

Hi Quadlingual, have you experienced the on/off issue again since the upgrade? I have a 1a version and I've upgraded to 1205, but I have had the on/off problem happen again since, although less frequently.

I have a "1a" running the 1205 update and have to reset it pretty frequently when it doesn't wake up from sleep. I would say almost everyday. :(

Hoping someone can fix this annoying defect.

Hi chimpin,

I still haven't upgraded to 1205 yet as I have been away. For some reason I am experiencing the power off issue less frequently. I have timeout set at 2minutes and always leave the tablet time out on its own and I have 'stay awake' under Dev options enabled (so tablet stays on when plugged in).

I do normally tend to shutdown the tablet when not in use to conserve battery and it has coming on without a problem. That said I will advise if it makes any difference when I do upgrade.

Cheers!

I'm reading all of the posts in this forum and am now confused and concerned. My plan was to take my C94 from the box and immediately hop on the web. However, I'm reading about having to "flash the ROM" and that the tablet is not "rooted." None of that makes sense to me. I now have a few questions:

1 - Will I be able to use the tablet straight out of the box?

2 - What is "flash" the ROM? Is that something necessary to use the tablet? Is it something developers do to make the tablet operate better, sort of like aftermarket items on cars? Do I need to download firmware and do the "flash" or will my tablet operate "as is" from the box and will it make me a happy woman?

3 - Have I made a big mistake in buying a lesser known brand of tablet?

Thanks!

1. Yes, it should work out of the box, it just may not perform as good as it could.....
2. "Flashing he ROM" just means updating the tablet's software. It depends on what version tablet you end up getting (1a, 2a, or 3a), and what ROM is pre-installed on it... If a newer ROM comes out with a fix for some problem you are having with the tablet, you may want to update it. Or someone may make a custom ROM with some modifications or tweaks in them, so if you are not happy with the stock (factory/company) software, you may want to flash a custom ROM to see if you like it any better.... Hopefully someone who has a C94 can tell you how it operates as is, without any tweaking...
3. LOL, I think only you can answer that after you've tried out your tablet...

Good luck! B)

Omarahum,

Thanks so much for your input ... I feel much better about my purchase. The tablet is being delivered today and I expect to be "wowed!"

So the tablet arrived and I am sufficiently "wowed," and am very happy. The battery meter is screwy, but you guys warned about that. I downloaded the upgrade, but am not sure I did the installation correctly. I can't find anything that says it worked, plus the battery meter is still screwy. Any suggestions?

My other issue is that I am unable to download apps from either Google Play or the Android Market. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I will say that the C94 is lightening fast, easy to figure out for a spoiled Apple user and first-time Android owner. Once the kinks are worked out I think I'm going to love it.

As always, thanks for your patience and help! Happy Weekend.

I'm not sure what I did or didn't do, but I'm happy to say the app download issue is resolved. The battery meter is still screwy and I can't tell if the upgrade worked, but I've got apps installed. However, I'm also concerned that on many of the apps I have gotten messages stating the app "is not compatible with" my device. Again, any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks much!

Just search with the browser and download and install .apk files of the apps which say"not compatible" Most should work. A good alternative "Play store" is www.1mobile.com

FYI, I upgraded to 1205 following bricking my C94 from fiddling with the build.prop file cos i wanted to get around Google Play compatibility issues.

1205 ROM for us older and mediocre 1a series is actually better. I had some apps screw up the display but now need ok. On/Off freeze has not occured yet and battery meter is a bit better. Google play compatibility is better but still not 100% but that is thanks to my build.prop

Will there be any other ROM's for 1a series? Can I use 2a ROM maybe and rollback perhaps?

Cheers!

I purchased two of these tablets in February. I have to say that I am very happy with the performance of the tablets. Although it comes with a quad core processor, there are also options to run the tablet with 1, 2, or 4 cores operational. While running it in single core mode reading PDFs and such, I have run for over 6 hours on a single charge. Streaming videos on Netflix I usually use 2 or 4 and the battery lasts for around 4 hours. My issue is with the charging port. About a month after receiving them, one of them developed an issue and I must hold the charging jack just right to get it to charge. I have tried the other charger to see if it was the cord, but that one did not work either. I believe that there is probably just a loose wire that I can fix with a little solder, but can not figure out how to get the tablet open to do so.

I recently bought the C94 (2a) in Germany and the shop informed me that there is a new software at their web site. After inspecting zt-update/media/version.txt I found the following string:
ZT285_H8_2a_1GB_Android4.0_0329_V1.11
.

The readme.txt says:
2013-03-29
Improve the back Camera function, Update battery indicator.

2013-01-13
Fix battery display bug.

2012-12-20
Improve the battery meter accuracy, improve the stablity of android, fix no sound with HDMI bug.
...

I wonder why this version is still not on the Zenithink site?
Is it allowed to upload this new version here?

Thanks for the info and the filename....

I don't know why they didn't update their website by now (many of the most current ROMs for each of the tablets don't have the latest version posted for download), but with the filename you provided, the download link from Zenithink would be http://www.zenithink..._0329_V1.11.zip

Ah I see, since the download link is working, Zenithink is already (invisible) offering this version.
