I figured out xbmc; I got an updated nightly and it had a windows shares option which was missing on the previous version. It works nicely & plays xvid /divx ok but anything hidef is jerky due to not being h/w accelerated.

I will investigate configuring an external player as I do like the xbmc ui.

I'm using Finless Bob's version v1.5 based on that update but with improvements. Working on a video update to my review. Will be interested to see your custom rom.

Seriously anyone with an mk808 needs to be checking out armtvtech. com's mk808 section and FreakTab mk808 uodates by Finless Bob.

MK808 with Finless 1.5 ROM + External usb wifi

Running XBMC modded MXPlayer (from here: http://forum.xda-dev...&postcount=1046 ), very happy with the result. Streaming mkv HD video from my NAS by mounting it as a local file, with CIFS Manager.

You need Hide Bar app to hide the status/notification bar in order to get full-screen movie. All online HD podcasts also run smoothly with MXPlayer "inside" XBMC.

XBMC not responding to mouse clicks?

I just bought an MK808 and loaded XBMC (xbmcapp-armeabi-v7a-debug-20120714.apk. I am using a computer mouse to navigate this device. I can click on the XBMC icon and launch the app but then cannot click within the app. Using a USB keyboard, the arrow keys (up, down, left and right) work but "enter" does not. Cannot select any tab in XBMC.

How do you all navigate in XBMC? Is there a particular remote that works out of the box?

You can use an android phone to navigate ( if you have one) . Just install XBMC remote on the phone.

There are problems with using a version that uses MX player or Dice player to play HD videos with hardware acceleration. Video plug ins don't work - so forget BBC iplayer or other TV catch up add-ons etc . Plus whichever remote you use for XBMC - it does not work when MX player is playing the video. So you will have to reach for a mouse to stop MX player and get back to XBMC.

If you want an android TV box for XBMC , you need one with an amlogic chipset at the moment as only these can use the hardware decoding builds. Its a shame amlogic android tv boxes are built on the slower single core m3 chipset.

I just bought an MK808 and at 1920x1080, the screen is stretched. Other forums have mentioned this and that the device is defaulting to 1024x720 and stretching. It looks horrid. Any advice to fix would be welcome.

If rock chip release the source code just like amlogic they can compile xbmc hwdecorder. I was thinking if mxplayer or the rkvideoplayer work with hwdecoder on rk3066 they could use the some files from the apk to use them as xbmc hwdecorder

When they say it "support", it just mean XMBC can run it. So far, XBMC only support amlogic cpu.

You need to upgrade the firmware. The latest JB rom has solved this problem.

Hey I just wanted to mention I have one of these in used - like-new condition for sale with a Rii Mini I8 remote for $85 including shipping to anywhere in the USA. It is posted in the classifieds section which unfortunately doesn't get much attention I don't think. You can see it here: http://www.slatedroi...-i8-control-85/

I have loaded our highly modified version of Finless 1.5a firmware on it and it will come pre-configured. FYI this is significantly less than what I paid to acquire the unit about 3 weeks prior :)

Cheers,

Roman

In my opinion, the device with Rockchip RK3066 CPU wouldn't run XBMC soon. Since Rockchip Haven't release the resource code yet.

Actually, the MK808 with Finless 1.6 runs Official Frodo RC3 pretty smooth, minus H/W decode. The XAF builds (neon set-top) work the best. Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2

Nightly Test builds from XBMC support hardware decoding (libstagefright) - see http://forum.xbmc.or....php?tid=152005

I tested this with finless 1.6 and true 1080p, works - although there are some videos which cause my device to crash hard. With finless 1.5 and no true 1080p i was experiencing jitter and glitches when playing 1080p, but overall this is pretty neat.
