Hi, I'm new here and a learner. Thinking of buying the Flame2. Checked out the GC1000 specs and am wanting advice re: what aspects of the GPU are low?

GLBenchmark is the best program for GPU testing. Very intense and thorough. Here are results by GPU:
GLBenchmark GPU Results

Notice where GC860 is? GC1000 would be *slightly* better than that. Click the links to see that actual tablet list and ranking within those GPU results.

PS, Benchmarks are better for gauging performance instead of specs. ie. some company may give the best specs but performance testing reveals the truth. =)

*MINIX NEO X5 (RK3066) - OK. Not fun because uses mouse cursor.
*YUANDAO N80 DUAL (RK3066) - Very good
*CUBE U30GT (RK3066)- Defective; buttons broke in 2-3 weeks; Bad quality control!!! I will never buy a Cube again!!! - Very good while working
*WOPAD I7 (RK2918)- About OK. Sluggish because has weaker ARM chip (RK2918) & less RAM (512 MB).

Interesting results. So Mali 400 is even better than the GC2000. Wasn't expecting that.

Appears that way, though there is only 1 tested tablet for GC2000 & GC860. Want to see more tablets tested and popular brands too. That way can know for sure but do not expect the results to change by much.

GLBenchmark is the best program for testing out GPUs. It does really intense testing of the GPU and shows who is king of gaming performance. =)

The Captain is still mentioned in Ainol's latest catalog. However, the resolution has been downgraded from 1920x1200 to 1280x800.
But given what we now know about the ATM7029 (weak Cortex-A5 CPU and bad GC1000 GPU), I wouldn't get one anyway if it's really based on that chip.

I ordered a Ainol Novo 10 Hero II from the Ainol Novo site and after a day they announced that the Ainol Novo 10 Captain Basic was released and in stock
But I was lucky, I sent them an email and asked if they could change my order to a Captain Basic, and they did!
Only had to pay them the price difference and everything was okay.
Still waiting for them to ship it.

I think it is a bit scary to order the first revision of the Captain Basic, just hope there won't be any strange problems with it

Hi,

Just go my Captain a couple of days ago. First impression: very good.
Once I got rid of their chinese stuff, it's all good.
Waiting now for a custom ROM - CM if possible.

I also want custom rom on mine.
Is your model also called the Catpain?

I have spoken with Ainol, they have built a new firmware for the Captain but need to update their website.

UPDATE:
The firmware is apparantly here i think.
Don't know chinese so have no idea if its the right one.

UPDATE2: tried flashing, now stuck at boot.
Fantastic :p

You can find all the latest firmwares in the official download page: Ainol Download
The first one in the list is for Captain. Google Translator says "Ainol Eternal" and this is effectively the other official name for the captain/eternal device.

ATM702x based tablets are no problem tablets... I really like this Soc, not powerful but reliable and compatible. I will certainly buy a Captain/Eternal when availability will be better.

When I installed the newer Actions flashing utility it was all good.
I have posted a link on the Ainol Actions 7029 ROMs thread with link to the firmware and everything.
The tablet seems faster now, not a lot but faster.
I don't really care if it is slow, 12 hour battery sold me :good:

Hi
Could you explain how flashing the update from the ainol website ?
Doesn't working for me.
My tablet is fine but I've the battery icon issue who shows always 100 %.
It seems this new firmware fixes this issue but it's impossible for me to install it because of a driver not available
The better is a firmware flashable in recovery.
Is there a cooker ?
