Anyone have this tablet? A review would be appreciated? It is a 7" inch RK3066 dual core with 1Gb Ram. And it is pretty cheap at around $85 shipped.

Are these standout points to consider this tablet for you?

  • RAM 512MB (DDR 3)
  • ROM(Memory) 8GB Nand Flash
  • Shell Material Plastic
  • Display LCD
  • Resolution 800 x 480px
  • 3G External 3G
  • Battery 3200mAh

My small advise to you is don't waste your time on this mate. Keep searching for something better. :good:

If it's 8GB and Jelly Bean that you want get the Ainol Crystal. Slatedroid has about 6 resident devs right on here who push out custom roms for the Ainol tablets. You will be better off with 1GB ram and a better screen at least

For me it's well below the par. Looking at the M2 but design wise I kind of hate it now, looks bulky at the edges.

I recieved mine yesterday and I've been fiddling with it on and off.
Not too happy with the resolution. When I power off the tablet to charge it, it powers on itself when plugging it in?! Is this suppose to be like this?
The supplier tells me it's a known RK3066 cpu issue, but I don't know.

Is there a way to root this?

ALL RK3066 units power on when charging. Doesn't hurt anything. Just tap the power button to turn the screen off.

We plan on mostly likely carrying the S1 for Christmas as the price is dirt cheap and PiPo quality is BY FAR better than Ainol.

The S1 has 1 GB of RAM, not 512 MB.

The Crystal DOES have a nicer screen but it is MVA not IPS. MVA is still better than LCD and the higher resolution is better.

Some talking points between the two...

If you get a good Crystal device, it is the better unit as far as the screen goes. IF.... I have had nothing but problems from Ainol and I have sold several generations of their products before realizing what absolute crap they are. Buyer beware.

The S1 is using a much better processor than the Crystal. The Rk3066 trumps the AmLogic in every category across the board.

The Crystal has a better screen and I am not sure but I would guess larger battery? It also has a higher price.

PiPo brand is significantly better than Ainol. There really is no comparison between the two companies. PiPo cares about their products and customers, Ainol cares about making a buck.

Yes, I am opinionated :).

If you want something with a good screen and don't mind the AmLogic processor I would perhaps recommend one of Onda's current 7" offerings. They are also a good company but the price is higher. They use IPS screen though which are significantly better than MVA based on what reading I have done.

The S1 has about a $20 to $30 price differential from the Crystal.

The Crystal has a notably bigger battery and much better screen (HD and MVA technology) but not quite IPS. My only gripe with the Crystal is the brand honestly. The AmLogic IS significantly less processor than the Rockchip but it is still a very good processor all the same.

We have a low price target to hit with the S1 though :), that is also a part of it. Low price but good solid quality is the goal.

Hi Roman,
I hope I don't ruin the conversation for you, but my tablet (Aoson M11) does not turn on when charging.

Yes, a PIPO S1 review is very welcome. I have ordered one and will get it in a week or so... If no one has written one, I might try to do it. Seems like a good cheap tablet, suitable for kids up to about 16 years maybe? For myself I want to buy a PIPO M3...

Please any one know how to flash/update and install CWM on this tablet? I had rooted this tab with ZhaoDaShi v2.2.10. It rooted just fine but the only problem is Suand busybox is not installed. I installed superSU (busybox also) and all apps that need root working just fine. This is really good cheap tablet for your child aside from the lower resolution!

I have received several S1's for a project that I am working on. I would be happy to write a review but would prefer to do it in a new thread so that it could be found easily. I am new to this board an don't have ability to create new threads but I am hoping a moderator could bump up my privilidges so that I can create a post.

In summary, the devices are quite nice for the price. Performance is pretty amazing in my opinion. I have been able to put CWM 5 on and have also been able to root the devices using the general tools for this chipset. Video performance is good. I hooked it up to my HDMI monitor and everything just worked. I haven't tried any games and probably won't but from a video player performance standpoint, it works well. The screen itself is good but the resolution 800x480 is a bit on the low side of acceptable. However, there have to trade offs for a device at this price point.

I hope to get a bunch of documentation together for this as I had to find it from various sources. Since I have several devices, I was more willing to take a risk but everything worked as it should.

OMG. thanks mate for jumpin' into pipo s1 development. It's such a great news to me that someone is working on this nice tab. Yeah, the only cons for this superfast and cheap tab is the low res, cannot use usb for charging and cannot turn off tab while charging. Waitin' for your art of work for this piece of awesome hardware! Thank you.

It charges while turned off?! Doesn't ruin the conversation :) lol. That is the first RK3066 I have ever heard of that charges while turned off though. I have PiPo and Yuandao and OEM devices and all come on when they charge. Interesting!

Every charger with 5 volts and 2 Ampers it's good ... I made one for my Pipo S1 using one universal charger (http://www.alibaba.c...er_Adapter.html) wich work better than original charger :) !
