Does anyone know how to update by booting into recovery. I downloaded the update to the tablet, unzipped the file. I get 3 folders, that I cannot read because they are Chinese. I know one is what looks like drivers another has one file named P85(A9D3).Inc and the other has several things in it. My question is what do I move to root of the SD card to update via recovery. I have moved the .img file to SD and tried renaming to update.img but cannot get recovery to recognize it. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have only updated these devices using the RockChip PC Tool to push the firmware over...
You may be able to access a recovery menu by holding volume - and power when booting...

I can confirm there is a recovery menu(volume+ & power) and there is an option in the recovery for update. I just can't seem to find which file and or how the file should be named. On another device the I have the file had to be renamed to update.img I have done that with this device but the recovery does not find it. Maybe I should try with the .img file being the only file on the SD card? The recovery gives the option to install from internal or external SD so don't think it would matter but will keep trying until I figure it out.

why dont u just use the flasher tool? and anyway, if u still wanna try and flash, try putting the update.img file on a sd card and flashing through recovery.

No Computer right now. I already moved the file named P85(A9D3).img from the update package to an SD card and renamed to update.img but recovery does not install the update. I wouldn't mind using flash tool but it is always nice to update from the device itself.

I did a successful update from the recovery menu with ICS 4.0.4 firmware 1.24, but doing the same technique now is giving the file not found error (the update to firmware 1.24 was renamed to update.img as well).

I'm also getting a problem trying to use the flashing tool, where all I get is the pink connection colour rather than green, or, the tablet reboots. I'm wondering if I have to work my way through different microSD cables to find one that works for flashing. /sigh

I might just hang on for a few firmware updates to become available, and try a later one.

User name Ogri said on the firmware forum for the P85 that he did it with the last update. Maybe he will chime in. Everything I try says"file exists" but never updates.
Thanks Ogri. You posted while I was typing.

If you can not find the drivers, you should use moborobo.

I hope someone can help me out. I cant seem to set up the flasher properly. I tried to follow the steps mentioned in the attached image in the first post but...

well, the first time I tried it, the internet connection in my laptop was switched off; so after I pressed the volume+ and power button and then connected the usb to the laptop, the laptop started searching for driver for new device; a window popped up saying:

Driver Software Installation
Divice driver software was not successfully installed
Unidentified device X no driver found

but it does not give me the option to manually select the driver...

After switching on my net, I tried the same steps... and got the same result.

I then installed moborobo, and it recognized my device. Then I switched off moborobo, and tried the steps again.. but cant manually install the drivers...

Any help will be appreciated guys...

You should moborobo let seek the drivers and install them. I gues if you look in the device manager of your computer the driver is missing.

I had another go at the installation (been up to my eyes in it sorting a motorbike out), and wasn't getting anywhere, so I tried an install of the rockusb.inf driver file (right click on it and left click install). The computer went busy for a second but no popup dialog to continue. Tried it a second time, same result.

So I thought well maybe it's done something anyway, so tried a reboot.

After a reboot, the device was at last found, and I got the popup to continue with the driver install, then the flasher worked.

Now running 4.1 JB. :)
