I bought Onda v971, instead of my broken vi40 dc. same specs, but v971 has rear camera and no home button anymore. When i contacted my seller, he says ainol and onda class 1 products; cube yuandao and others class2 products, he means build quality and workanship.

hi guys today i got my onda v971 16gb. Actually i want to buy 32gb, but seller said 32gb versin has some kind of bug. so i had 16gb instead.

first of all as you know, onda has released 1.4 firmware for all amlogic series. v971 is no different. i downloaded new firmware and applied.

onda v971 only have only 2 button. home and power. so you need to press home and power in the same time for entering recovery mode.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

my own mirror for firmware v1.4 onda v971: http://transfers.vm6.../V971D_v1.4.rar

After update i added my gmail account and try to acces play store. Well in the first place actually it was cool, i can easily browse in market search for apps.

But i cant download anything. only getting error 101.... i tried factory reset, clear cache for google origin apps(store, download manager etc.)

i even used my vpn to connect playstore(im living in turkey, my vpn is in canada) no good....

so i remebered host file (/system/etc/hosts) i edited this file (actually i deleted all the entries in it, and just added 127.0.0.1 localhost) reboot tablet, then everything is cool.

after editing hosts file, i donwloaded so many apps, everything is cool. youtube also working. chrome firefox operea dolphin is ok. facebook and twitter are ok. for game; i tried dead trigger. dead trigger was smooth no lag no reset or any other problem.

front and back camera are working no problem either. but i cant find google maps or earth in market. so i dont know google location service is running correctly or not....

these are my antutu scores:

cpu normal mode:
total 6280 cpu 3032 gpu 1251 ram 1236 i/o 761

cpu performance mode:
total 7548 cpu 3867 ram 1571 i/o 834

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i didnt tried my old vi40 DC with new firmware, so im not sure this called improvement or not; but wi-fi is has higher range rate, and very solid connection. i used onda v971 with default firmware, for 10-15 minutes and wi-fi not so good.... with new firmware wi-fi is more stable.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

other than that, battery performance not so good. its drains quite fast. maybe related to wi-fi performance improvement. when im charged device at full capacity i will make a real test.

Edit: tablet charging so slowly, im charging tablet via provided ac adapter, tablet doesnt have ac charge socket, only usb port.(onda vi40 dc has ac charge socket/hole but this tablet doesnt have it. ac i dont know what is the reason. %1 in 10 minutes.....
--------------------------------

, didnt try charge with default firmware so im not sure its firmware related problem or not......

I updated my firs post. you find info about v971

btw, i contacted seller, slow chargin is normal he says... but actually im not beliving him. because my old vi40 dc even with 5v 1.0a ipod charger was charging faster than onda v971...

so tell me guys what is your experinces ? onda v971 charging from usb socket. ac charger(5v 2a)>>>usb cable>>tablet's usb port onda vi40: ac charger>>power cable>tablet's ac power hole.

even with ac charger, onda v971 needs 4,5-5 hours for full charge.... is it normal ?

Edit: first of all, battery programs says onda v971 has 4500 mili amper battery pack.....

second thing; when tabletwas charging around %8_0 instantly go up at %100...... i think charging mechanism is ok, but kinda calibration problem...

im discharging tablet, wi-fi on screen brightness low badass battery says 8 hours 30 minutes for battery until zero..... well if batter will really last 6 hours or more then i dont care capasity of battery.

and again, now i reall understand why device can chargin from usb.... battery is small. smaller than ainol fire 7" !!! (fire has 5000 mili amper)

According to several retailers, the battery should be 6000 mAh. Posted Image

I'll check mine when I get it.

I read on another site (similar to this one) that all ONDA tablets are factory rooted? I am now confused about this question and will contact the ONDA help site to see if they can clear this matter up. I might be a while .........................

Just flash Valkoz custom rom and all will be ok. Root and no Chinese apps.

There is also an kitchen which you can use to customize your own rom and share it.
Takes a bit of time and work though.
