I recently purchased a used Motorola Xoom 4G, yesterday it upgraded itself to ICS 4.04. Everything else is stock.
My issues
1) When I attempt to connect the Motorola USB cable to my Windows 7 laptop , I see “usb device not recognized.”
I’ve downloaded/installed the Motorola Device Manager 2.2.17., tired the USB debug mode, etc. Can’t get it to work
2) I cant seem to find a Wifi /ftp Android app that can see the data on my SD Card. All the apps seem to think the main 32 gig of memory is an SD card?
The total command app lists my SD card as SD- Card (2), mnt/external1.
The main 32 gig is shown as mnt/sdcard ?

The Xoom's internal space IS basically an sd card soldered into place. mnt/external1 is your removable microSD. So All transfer apps will so this.If you are running Stock 4.0.4 from Google, then you will not be able to write to the external sd card. This is the way Google wants it.
As for your first problem, i really dont know where to go with that one.

I can write to the removable card via USB cable. Seems like there should be an app that could do that also ???

Nope. Only with the USB cable if you are running stock. To write to the card using any wifi transfer app or from within the Xoom itself, at the very least you need to root and change the permissions. I have not done this. As I am not running stock anymore. I am using Team EOS 2.0 stable, which lets you use the various transfer apps without using the cable.
