My brother has purchased Gemei G9 tablet.
But it came with a lot of stability problems and same issues than a lot of users here.
So I tried to understand and resolve the problem.
I have quickly understood that it is CPU problem. ALL WINNER A10 are not very well fabricated and calibrated (Chinese quality inside).
So for some CPU 1008MHZ is high and the result is to make the system very unstable.
To resolve the problem, you have to fix the frequency to 960Mhz with SetCPU or Roomtoolbox.
Another weird thing, I can't change the governor to "on demand".The only possibility is "fantasy".
Been playing around with this using Antutu and it seems to work in first few hours. Previously crashed within first 30 seconds of pdf now working perfectly. Games and all apps running smooth no crash to home screen. I think this simple tweak really stabilises the tablet. Great suggestion!!!
Was having issues with my G9 ending apps and rebooting by itself. Found this thread, downloaded setcpu and set to 960Mhz. Now Flipboard runs fine. Thanks.
I kept the governor at default Fantasy setting cause when set to ondemand, CPU when down below 100Mhz
And why don't we modify the kernel to set a higher core voltage in order to achieve stability in higher frecuencies? All chips should be able to make at least 1200 MHz and some of them 1.5 GHz
There is a good app for testing stability. It's name is StabilityTest. You can find it in Play Store. Just run the Classic stability test and see, if it freezes. If it doesn't, then it means your tablet is healthy, if it does, then you have to try other SetCPU settings...
PS: My gemei with CHS Firmware usually freezes at about 3:00. After a while, I have to force close the application, and it gives me an error report. Unfortunately, I have no idea, what the report says....
First Trial:
CHS 465 firmware (installed with format)
MrT script (all available options)
CPU set to 1008 mHz
The tablet was slow to start, often rebooted itslef during startup.
Slow touchscreen responsivness and a lot of hanging when opening or running apps.
Keyboard was slow too and got random rebooting (even if not often as other comments).
Usually the tablet was improving slightly after 10 min of use, but poor performance overall compared to the next configurations.
Second Trial :
Eken firmware (installed with format)
MrT script (only root, build.prop and deactivate services)
Sausage script all options (includind the instruction to perform a tablet factory reset)
Antutu CPU Master set to 960/60 on performance
The tablet sprung to life and the screen resolution is great.
Fast, snappy and doing wonderfully great apart from 2 issues.
1st is the touch screen unresponsivness unless you switch the screen on and off twice, the "show desktop or return home" button doesn't work at all and there is no screen lock.
2nd is the limitation on store apps. Some of the apps I previously installed with the other configuration are now showing not to be compatible with my device.
After playing a bit to sort those issues, doing a lot of different trials mixing up firmware scripts and options in several different ways, I found the following solution working brilliantly for me:
Final Trial
Re-flash the tablet to put a fresh Eken ROM (with format)
MrT script only to root and deactivate services
Sausage script only option 5 (not full flavour)
*** DO NOT FACTORY RESET ***
Antutu CPU Master set to 960/60 on performance
What I noticed is that doing a factory reset was creating the problems with the touchscreen and the market issue was created by the build.prop in mrT script (even if the build.prop was subsequently overwritten by the sausage script).
Weird, especially considering that market was working great with mrT script and CHS.
Anyhow, I am now enjoying a great stable and snappy tablet.
I ran Stability Test several times, no problem at all.
Only small issue, from screen off you have to click the standby boutton twice for the unlock screen to work.
Small price to pay, but apart from that no other problem touch screen related.
Thank you all the people that worked hard to compile the scripts and put so much effort to help us.
Ok, The tablet is much better with thoses modifications ! But, i'm having just a little trouble and i whish to think if i'm alone with it...
Everything works (quite) fine ! But, if i need a reboot, it's quite hard to complete (freeze on boot). So, i need to force shutdown and start again many times...
Maybe Setcpu set the cpu to 960 MHz at the end of boot, not at the begining ? What do you think of this ? (That could explain random good starts)
Actually I didn't have any freeze on boot.
I did install the firmware and reboot.
The mrT script, reboot (more than once).
Sausage script option 5, reboot.
And everything was fine, was even considering not to modify the cpu, but then decided to follow jalloucine suggestion.
I installed antutu and modified the cpu frequency as the last step.
I forgot to mention that I also checked the set on boot option in antutu.

Improvements are for example many added kernel modules such as tun.ko, which allows you to use Cisco Anyconnect for VPN Connections.
Or the Bluetooth dongle driver etc. which however didn't work with my dongle :-( But in terms of stability, it is at least equal to the Eken Rom.
And of course, Clockworkmod is quite practical for entire data backups!
yes you are right, the CPU is set at the end of the boot with applications as SETPU or ANTUTU.
If you want to set the CPU on boot you have to apply my script (see Scipt section).
Mintpie P90 is working great for my tablet! Anyone who is experiencing lag, many freezes, fc's, etc, try it!!
