Hi,

I am a total newbie who needs all the help i need. I know NOTHING about "root"/ "flash" etc. So, please be super patient with me.

I bought a gemei g9 black back very recently from china online website directly. details read:

About Device:
Model number: gemei G9
Android version: 4.0.3
Baseband version: V4.15.00_CHS
Kernel version: 3.0.8 lzy@lzy-desktop #85 (note not "Kernel version: 3.0.8 lzy@lzy-desktop #8")
Build number: crane_gm_g9-eng 4.0.3 IML74K 20120406 test-keys

anyway, i had hanging problem (at "gemei"/ or logo) , restarting problem (even simple browsing website and it can give non-responding message or force close on its own). I keep trying and I have different problem different time.

Yesterday, I had also tried to "flash" using MrTasselhof's script, but got problem finding the driver or subsequently had some "andriod ADB interface" error after i tried the GoldBond drivers. I was too tired and called it a day.

Today, I got too adventurous and did the BIGGEST mistake ever... I went to the setting and erase all data and reset to factory default (include erading all data on sd card). Now it can never get pass the "gemei"/ or logo. At times I get the "disfigured" gemei, which looks like "pixel" issue on a spoilt LCD screen.

Now when I try to run MrTasselhof's script, I still cant detect the tablet, and the tablet will prompt "gemei"/ or "disfigured gemei" or the logo. I get seems to do anything at all.

ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED! and I suspect I need very detailed instructions as I really is an IT idiot. Thank you in advance.

Hi Greenie,

I am going to move this to it's own thread out on the main section.

First off, welcome to the forum and Gemei G9 community.

My script is not a firmware and should only be used after you are booted to the OS.

It sounds like the best course of action for you at this time is to flash a new firmware.

Files needed:

Download this firmware:
Dropbox.com - Gemei G9 - CHS Firmware - Standard Settings

Download this LiveSuit software so you can flash the above firmware:
Slatedroid.com - Livesuit Software

Download this driver pack:
Slatedroid.com - Tasselhof Driver Pack

Download this script:
Slatedroid.com - Tasselhof CHS SuperScript

You should now have all the files needed to get the device operational.

Extract the firmware to a folder on your desktop.
Extract the LiveSuit.exe to a Livesuit folder in the folder you just created on your desktop.
- run the .exe file to install Livesuit
Extract the Driver Pack to a Driver folder in the desktop one
Extract the Script folder to the folder on your desktop

Now that Livesuit is installed, run the livesuit.exe file as administrator by right clicking on it.
You want to select the option with format and point it to the firmware image.
It should now be at a point where it is waiting for the tablet to connect.

Make sure your tablet is powered off completely.
Plug the USB cable in to your computer
Hold the volume+ button (middle button on top)
Then plug the micro USB part of the cable in to the tablet port near the headphones.
Now press the power button 6 to 10 times in rapid succession.

You should hear the computer make a device connected noise.

Livesuit should then take over.
Let it run until it is completely finished.

Then boot the tablet.
Provided everything loads up, you can now run my Script.

hope that helps,

Tasselhof

Thanks for this help ! :clapping:

But, just a little tips if it's not working. On my tablet (a Gemei G9 black back too), the USB port to use is the "normal" one (not the HOST port) (If i connect it, Livesuit never detect the G9)

Hope this will help someone ! :drinks:

Hi Mr Tasselhof

Thank you for your assistance.

I downloaded and extracted the files as directed. Then I right-click on "LiveSuitPack_v1.07" application and run as administrator as directed (sorry didn't see the LiveSuit.exe icon till later... Hope it works just as well.

After that I Plug the USB cable in to your computer
Hold the volume+ button
I then plug the micro USB part of the cable in to the tablet port near the headphones called "Host".
I then press the power button at least 20 times in rapid succession.
Nothing happens.

I then unplug the micro USB part of the cable from the "Host" tablet port, and reinsert into the micro USB part of the cable in to the tablet port near next to the HDMI port shoeing the usb symbol.
then i press the power button 6 to 10 times in rapid succession.
i heard the computer make some noise..
then i have a dialogue box (which I assume to be error message as attached). The progress stays at 0% for a while.

I tried twice. same error message.

Please advise whether I did anything wrong and what can I do next. Thank you very much.

It sounds like you are close...
so it appears you may have a similar situation to live.... so lets go with that...

Now that you have Livesuit install...

Power off the tablet.
run Livesuit.exe as administrator
It should now popup a box about normal or format and also about find an image.
Browse to the firmware update file and it might again prompt about format.
Now once you see livesuit is open and sitting at 0%...

Press and hold the volume+ button on your tablet and connect the USB then hit the power button a couple times..
If you hear the window device connection sound, great! Livesuit should pick it up from there and start installing... if it doesn't then we need to go check your Device Manager.

Right Click on My Computer
Click on Manage
Click on Device Manager
Check to see if you have any Yellow Exclamation marks... particularly any that look like they may be tablet/usb based.

If you do right click on it and go to find driver.
Now browse to where those drivers were extracted to and see if it finds one that works.

Attached File  g9 v4.15 firmware.png   95.41KB   37 downloadsHi Mr Tasselhof

Thanks for your reply.

I just realised another possible error. The download of the firmware might not have been successful. see attached.

I also tried downloading the factory default ram speed firmware posted by russell359 and I have the similar error. There seems to be some zip within zip.

Thanks for your patience.

Hi again,

I believe I managed to get Livesuit to run. My problem is now I don't have any img file.

If you refer to my previous attachment, i suspected the img file is inside. Should I rename the inner zip file with extension .img?

Here's the other prompt that i got after i browse to the inner zip file. I don't suppose it is helpful, but that's all I have. Anywhere else that I can get the 4.15 img file?

Many thanks in advance again...

You need to extract the .IMG file so that it is available on it's own.
You might want to redownload it if there is some coruption issue.

Hi again,

The firmware I downloaded and re-downloaded is fine. I managed to extract the Img file using another laptop. But somehow my laptop will still read the img file as a zip file. But when I point to the file, livesuit somehow still managed to run.

So, I managed to flash the firmware and the tablet restarted on its own. However, it hangs at the "G9" logo. Shutting it down and restarting it again gives me the previous errors of either "gemei" logo, "disfirgured gemei", or flashing gemei logo.

Any other suggestion is greatly appreciated...

I had the same issue...tried factory reboot and as soon as i boot it i would get a dead droid image on screen with a red colored exclamation mark..freaked me out..but as mr T suggested , a clean install of FW (format of SD card solved the issue for me)

As for the pixelated Gemei boot screen, i faced it many times too..appears during the Gemei Logo (not the G9 logo) where in a square block of pixels around the Gemei logo would come up as blue checks and the tablet freezes.

Just do a manual factory reset(vol down + power) and then try flashing it

I have tried various times to flash the tablet, including using the firmware from original gemei website which is v4.10.

However, I can never get past the gemei/ g9 logo page.

Any other help or suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Have you tried a factory reset? (there is a small hole in the back panel to reset)
