Hi, I'm looking for more information on the Teclast P85 All I know for now is that it's a A10 8 inch tablet with 1GB ram, 1024x768 resolution, glass screen, and 8gb of storage.
I would like to know the following:

How good is the baterry life, build quality, stability, does market and flash work well on android 2.3, how good is the wifi?
Thanks.

Battery is normal, 3-4 hours using it (wifi, play games, vídeos)
WiFi is good, signal is like my htc Desire.
Build quality good, screen good, very good (not IPs)
Market and flash working on ICS v1.1 (easy update)
Market is no full compability.
Stability is good but I hope it can be better with more update.

Does anyone know if the Teclast P85 is compatible with USB bluetooth dongles (ideally the tiny generic ones)?

Thanks - maybe if you get time?

"Market is no full compability."
Could you say a bit more about this?

I'm not sure what "no full compatibility" means - I got one a week ago and I'd say the market is fine. I've also heard people say flash doesn't work - but mine has Flash 11.0 installed and its working perfectly. I updated it to the latest ROM from Teclast - which is Android 4.0.3 build version 1.1.

I'd say its good, but not great. The battery life is (or at least it feels) worse on ICS than on 2.3, which it had on it when it arrived. With WIFI on its only a couple of hours watching videos for me... so I'm not super-impressed by that, considering they say 7 hours. But really I only want it for reading PDFs on (technical reference manuals, text books etc) and I can turn off WIFI for that. I get 4+ hours reading PDFs, which is fine.

The screen is good unless you use it upside down, when its a little dark depending on your viewing angle. Otherwise the 1024 x 768 resolution is nice and sharp at this smaller size (and since I wanted it for text-book reading its ideal at this size and resolution).

The sound quality is ok, and volume isn't too bad.

It feels heavy for its size (its very compact) so they have obviously packed it in tight, and the aluminium backshell is good to see on a Chinese tablet for a change - overall it feels solid and reasonably well built.

Mine cost me about $165US including DHL to me here in New Zealand so I'm pretty happy that I've got good bang-for-buck.

So I'd give it a 3.5/5 overall.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks for the writeup Steve - info's thin on the ground for this one :)

(& I was starting to think my main role here was jinxing threads ;-)

One of my main use cases is PDF reading, so if you're finding it ok for that it's probably fine for me. That said, quite a lot of the PDFs I'd be interested in are scans, rather than ebooks, so they might be a bit different to yours.

The vendor's told me Bluetooth dongles work under 2.3; I'm waiting for a reply re the ICS firmware (since it's an official ROM & ICS is supposed to support Bluetooth, it should work. But it seems things aren't that simple in the world of Chinese Android tablets... :s)

Teclast seems to be working on firmwares only for certain tablet models. I believe these maybe their popular tablets? Notice how P81HD has not been upgraded since Nov 22.

Hard to say when they will do newer firmware for P85 or some of their other new tablets. You may have to wait awhile.

PS, P85 is popular choice for 8" tablet.

PPS, Bluetooth should work with Android 2.3 if the driver is included. Should get someone with P85 to test that out for you.

*MINIX NEO X5 (RK3066) - OK. Not fun because uses mouse cursor.
*YUANDAO N80 DUAL (RK3066) - Very good
*CUBE U30GT (RK3066)- Defective; buttons broke in 2-3 weeks; Bad quality control!!! I will never buy a Cube again!!! - Very good while working
*WOPAD I7 (RK2918)- About OK. Sluggish because has weaker ARM chip (RK2918) & less RAM (512 MB).

I'd test Bluetooth for you, but I only have a REALLY old Bluetooth 1.1 dongle, and I'm not exactly even sure where that is. I don't use Bluetooth on Android at all. As for the scanned PDFs, I have one here - a textbook - I'll throw it in shortly and have a look at how it reads. I definitely like it for reading PDFs, but I'm not sure I'd bother updating it to ICS just for that since it seemed fine with 2.3 and Aldiko / Adobe Reader / ezPDF.

Cheers

Ok, it seems to be pretty good. This is a PDF I found where pairs of pages have been scanned rather than individual ones. The text is small but clearly readable (which it definitely wasn't on my Ainol Paladin, although thats only 800 x 480 from memory). The original book is no easier to read than this PDF. The first pic is the tablet beside a 24" monitor showing the same pages. Sorry about the dark photo, my camera in my phone is pretty crap, and I couldn't move the tablet to use its camera without inventing some 'faster-than-light' device first...

And this is a closeup of the tablet showing the text as readable.

Hope that helps you in your decision : )

Thanks Nikos & Steve - that's very helpful. :)

Re bluetooth, the vendor says it's supported in 2.3, but they're unsure about 4.0. Niko's page linked to Teclast's own P85 page & no mention of bluetooth there.

(But I did discover a few gems. Like a 4:3 8" screen has 1.5 times the visible area of a 16:10 7" screen. No' a lo' o' people kno' vat. & Teclast's marketing department think ability to use red-blue 3d glasses is a selling point... :s)

The textbook looks good - especially for a 2-up scan. I briefly had a crippled (unofficial) ICS 8in unit recently, and had some trouble with small print. But I think that mainly because the PDF readers I could find apks for (without resorting to dodgy sources) didn't support pinch-to-zoom. So it was tricky to adjust text size to the max. With market working I imagine there are plenty of PDF readers that allow that...

How do you find 'flicking through the pages'? (That was a bit slow on mine; but maybe because I PDFs on a bargain basement micro SD. I've been trying to get info on SD read-speeds here, but no-one seems very interested :p)

(PS Steve - waiting for better pics when that faster-than-light machine's done. & why do they call them pullup resistors anyway? :p )

How can I tell if the P85 is 4.1 JB compatible?
Do I have to wait and see if there will be update at Teclast website?
