There is now an app on the nexus 7 which allows access to USB drives without root. I have it and it works.

Really good from what I have seen. Though you have to give up HDMI & micro-SD. But you get a quality product. Quick updates and well working Android OS. 10 hours battery life. Tegra3 chip. GPS, Bluetooth and 1280x800. Crisp display.

Google is also making announcement about Nexus 7 32 GB version on Oct 29. Good to wait a little longer to see what is happening before ordering Nexus 7. Maybe wait till Nov. 1st.

Later,
*YUANDAO N80 DUAL (RK3066)
*CUBE U30GT (RK3066)- Defective; buttons broke in 2-3 weeks; Bad quality control!!! Must return to China for repair! =(
*WOPAD I7 (RK2918)

Just got a Nexus 7 as an early Xmas present. The 16g model was $199 but the Gamestop we went to didn't have any more 16g so I got the 32g instead($249). FREAKING AWESOME!!! I dont have much experience with many tabs, only the Pandigital 7" before this. But this thing is amazing. It's not rooted though, which is why I came here. I'm wanting it rooted for better backups and a couple other security related things. No SD card does suck, but not much. Drop box and Google drive mean I can get anything on it. But you can also transfer stuff via the USB cord and your PC. Except for accessing my encrypted passwords file, my PC has been feeling left out for over a day now, lol.

I love you Google!!!! And you too Mom!!!! =)

The Nexus 7 is a really great tablet spec wise. Should give great performance and with Google making the OS will have the best and latest version of Android too. I am sure you will enjoy it very much.

Looks like they dropped the 8GB model and now offer only 16GB & 32GB. Good move by Google. 8GB was too small especially without microSD. Getting rid of 8GB was good move to make. It now makes the Nexus 7 tablet much more tempting to buy compared to a Chinese 7".

Indeed, it's a great value proposition for consumers, but I can't see Google's other partners (eg Samsung, Motorola, ASUS themselves) being pleased with this, since it undercuts them massively.

exactly i just brought a new android tablet, thinking of getting another tablet, some good info, i am going to look into it, thanks for the info

Is it possible to use an External USB Hard Drive instead of a Flash Drive? Same question for other Tablets with Mini USB?

As long as the tablet can provide enough power to the drive, it should be fine.

Running Nexus 7 with MultiRom and TWRP Recovery booting succesfully the following:
- Android 4.2.2 Stock Rooted
- Ubuntu Touch 13.04
- Ubuntu Desktop 13.04 with Kali Linux Penetration Testing Repositories/Tools :) very nice, get our portable mobile hacking on! Works wonderfully all though the people are getting scared at the local starbucks ^_^
