Nexus tablet revealed. Have no time to check when available or other details for few days. Little busy.

Specs look very good. Price seems good. No micro-SD card slot though. Looks like they did same thing as Kindle Fire. So, whatever you can store on internal storage. 8 or 16GB. Also, can only transfer your audio or video files from Internet site or cloud(?) storage to your tablet. etc.

Also, have to see if it has HDMI or not. Have not seen the ports yet.

*MINIX NEO X5 (RK3066) - OK. Not fun because uses mouse cursor.
*YUANDAO N80 DUAL (RK3066) - Very good
*CUBE U30GT (RK3066)- Defective; buttons broke in 2-3 weeks; Bad quality control!!! I will never buy a Cube again!!! - Very good while working
*WOPAD I7 (RK2918)- About OK. Sluggish because has weaker ARM chip (RK2918) & less RAM (512 MB).

Comparing Nexus 7 to the more well-known Chinese tabs:

+1280*800, IPS, Gorilla glass of some sort
+Tegra3 quad core
+GPS
+BT
+NFC
+can touch/test it before buying if in USA/Can/UK
+more reliable warranty

-no SD slot
-1.2 camera
-8gb storage

I dont think it'll change much with the current line-ups on the online stores. It did set a nice standard for any upcoming tabs though.

Thanks guys for the info. I had little time to check it out myself.

Yes, those are two downsides. For micro-SD card, I think can still use USB stick for audio & video files. Or USB memory card reader. So, just have to carry around a USB stick & USB adapter with the tablet. Can probably live without micro-SD slot because USB can do similar job.

HDMI though can be a big factor for some people. It allows using the tablet as media center for watching video files off your TV. Also, lets people do gaming off your TV. HDMI would have been very nice to have though some people may not care about it.

They did at least include GPS & Bluetooth which is really nice to have. Also, Asus will make a better quality product than Chinese tablet makers and Google will provide very good and timely firmware for it.

This person has done a good comparison to Aurora-II

I'm placing my pre-order for the 8GB model soon. Even without the missing features it still looks like an amazing tablet. I've spent more on Chinese tablets, with all the features in the world, that just didn't work as advertised. The huge names behind the Nexus 7 are luring me in, truth be told.

Also, I'm surprised there's very little discussion about the Nexus 7 on this forum (unless there's another topic I've missed). I guess I'll be heading over to XDA for my Nexus 7 needs.

Are they going to come up with a 3G/HSPA supported model as well? Even otherwise it seems like a great tab for the price. Eagerly waiting for its launch in India

I think Google should have done 16GB ROM for $200 & 32GB ROM for $250 since they removed the micro-SD slot!!!

That will ensure they sell more Nexus 7 tablets and make their customers much more happy. 8GB ROM is very 1 year ago. Plus, people can avoid having a USB drive sticking out from the tablet by copying over their audio & video files to internal ROM if the sizes were doubled.

PS, my 10.1" IPS RK3066 tablets is coming with 16GB ROM and cost me $225 shipped. Maybe little more after Customs get hold of it.

Internal 3G would probably bring up the price by about $15. They expect people to use the tablets mostly with WiFi hotspots.

Or you can tether to Android phone w/WiFi or Bluetooth and get 3G that way too. =) That's why good idea to get an extra battery for your phone.

A supported 3G USB dongle with USB adapter should work too but won't be pretty.

NOT sure, just read it out there:

The Nexus 7 does support USB-OTG (On The Go), but it doesn't all of OTG. The Nexus 7 cannot use USB storage, nothing. Not even a USB thumb drive will work according to all the reports.

See here:

ithere is info about tv out also...

Chainfire has just updated Stickmount on Play Store so you can now use a USB stick on the N7.

Some users on XDA received defective N7s. Dead/stuck pixels and the left side of the screen not attached to the case correctly. As a previous owner of an Ainol Aurora, this is a nightmare.
