So, Ainol/Ainovo now have a Facebook page.
Then instead of sending them meaningless e-mails, I've posted on their Facebook page, asking for the source codes.
Hereby I ask every owner, developer, reseller of the Ainol Novo A10-based family, to join me, and comment on this very post, to grab their attention!
Liking won't be enough, add your comment too!

Here's the URL of the post: https://www.facebook...377022642318916

It might be soon removed, so hurry up, comment there! If we get enough comments, they might even release it!
If the post gets removed, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT spam their page. One should create a new post, with the exact same text as mine, and you should all comment below it again!

Together, maybe we can get something out of them!

Not sure what your point is, what do you mean by the source code, the source code is Google android correct which already is open source last time I checked. Maybe you can further explain exactly what source code you are asking for.

He wants the modified kernel for A10 chip. Each ARM chip is somewhat different and so requires making certain code changes to the kernel. ie, kernels differ between different ARM chip makers

Google's repo only contains following kernels:
tegra
samsung
omap - Texas Instruments chips
msm - Qualcomm chips
goldfish - "the kernel hacked branch that supports the qemu based arm emulator for android"

You would have to contact the chip maker directly to get the kernel source for rk2918, A10, Teclast, Amlogic, Freescale, etc.

They can try putting the pressure on Ainol but it is AllWinner that decides whether or not to release the kernel source. ie, Ainol would have to get AllWinner approval to release it

Example of getting source code for Amlogic 8726-M CPU:

*MINIX NEO X5 (RK3066) - OK. Not fun because uses mouse cursor.
*YUANDAO N80 DUAL (RK3066) - Very good
*CUBE U30GT (RK3066)- Defective; buttons broke in 2-3 weeks; Bad quality control!!! I will never buy a Cube again!!! - Very good while working
*WOPAD I7 (RK2918)- About OK. Sluggish because has weaker ARM chip (RK2918) & less RAM (512 MB).

Not really. GPL obliges the actual releaser of the given binary to release the source code to everyone who can get the binary. As Allwinner did not release any binary, but Ainol did, Ainol is the one obliged to let us access the source code.

That repo only contains the small changed bits Allwinner already released. I want their 3.x kernel source, and the matching device tree (and also the bootloader, it's GPL too).

Apparently our request is totally left unnoticed, maybe on purpose, maybe accidentally. Please take a step further, and while I did ask for not to spam them, now I ask for the opposite: spam the hell out of their facebook site. If your post gets deleted: post again. Do it until there's a reply!

Lets get these people involved
http://sfconservancy...mbers/services/

FLOSS Copyright License Enforcement

Complying with FLOSS licenses is easy, as they permit and encourage both non-commercial and commercial distribution and improvements. Nevertheless, violations of FLOSS licenses (in particular of the GPL and LGPL) are all too common. At request of the project's leaders, Conservancy can carry out license enforcement activity on behalf of the project's copyright holders.

We really need to fight for our legal right to the code, per the GPL.

If people and companies don't comply the GPL and other open-source license loose meaning.

Come on Ainol, it can only help you sell tablets, plus people will help develop the firmware.

Hi, has anyone tried emailing them? My perception is Ainol is pretty responsive, so why not try normal communication channels before resorting to more public tactics. We could try reaching out to folks like Feiyu and the mods at imp3.

Also who will release the source, Ainol or Allwinner? And given Ainol is supposed to move to a dual core platform soon perhaps they will be amenable to releasing the source for this.
