Hi there again all,

smithmal has requested a WiFi strength test on the Gemei G9.

I had a similar request for the Aurora that I ran comparison test between some other tablets similar to this article:
http://m.androidcent...test-how-bad-it

I have added the Gemei G9 to my previous sample pool of six tablets: (you can find specs using the links in my signature)
Gemei G9 (running MOMO11 bird 4.0.3 v0.9)
Ainol Novo 7 Aurora (running Android 4.0.1)
Ainol Novo 7 Advanced
Ramos W6HD
Herotab MID816R2
Wopad i8
HP Touchpad (Android Side)

The router I am using is:
Verizon FIOS - Actiontec MI424WR-GEN2 Hardware Version F
It is configured in B/G/N mode and located under my desk near the front/window wall.

Here is the layout of the router location and wireless test points:
Attached File  WiFiTest-1stFloor.jpg   129.44KB   73 downloadsAttached File  WiFiTest-2ndFloor.jpg   71.27KB   117 downloads

I will set all the devices facing the same direction and spot for each point.

This should be enough data to get an accurate read on WiFi performance compared to other tablets.
If there is a specific tablet (from my list below) that you feel should be in the comparison, please let me know.

Results: (closer to zero is better)
Attached File  WiFiTest-Chart.jpg   119.06KB   154 downloads

Looking at the results and general performance the Gemei G9 takes great marks in the "Chinese" tablets.
It was only beat by the "Retail" HP Touchpad which is also a 9.7".

Hope this is helpful/answers some questions.

Thanks

Tasselhof

Mr. T,

Awesome. Thanks for taking the time to do this. It is much appreciated.

Quick question. When running your tests in separate rooms (and the outside), are the doors open or closed?

Thanks,

smithmal

Regarding the gain of wifi signal, Gemei G9 is little worse then my phone Huawei U8800.
I would expect it should be better.

With my Gemei G9 its sometimes not really able to keep a stable connection from more than 10 meters (with a wall in between). Using the stock V4.10 firmware.

Gemei G9 (running MOMO11 bird 4.0.3 v0.9)

Tasselhof

MrTasselhop - you pointed out you were using gemei g9 running MOMO11 bird 4.0.3 vo.9 for the wifi test comparisson. I just got my new gemei g9 which I specificaly bought because of the great wifi reviews and now I am dissapointed - it is actually much worse (wifi) then wifi on my old Pandigital Planet! Would it improve if I get - not sure how but - the MOMO11...running on it? and if so - is Momo11 firmware I can download and flash it on my device? I am bit confused with diff between FW and android versions

thanks in advance!!!

I had a similar issue before, when I was travelling. I couldn't pinpoint what the cause of the problem was (as it was an on/off thing) but I suspect it's struggling with dynamic IP addresses. Try disconnecting all the other devices connected to your wifi, then reboot your tablet (or change it to airport mode and back). If it resolves the ip address then connect the other devices. I can't guarantee it will work, but it's worth a try :)
