Android Market is gone as of today. It's replaced by Google Play. I can still get into Android Market from the icon on my ViewSonic gTablet, but I've read in different news sites that over the few days they will be "upgrading" this. Will it break my ability to download apps? What if I have to restore stuff? How do I get the new Google Play upgrade back in?

I hope someone will be able to eventually come up with a hack to add Google Play to the ViewSonic gTablet, HeroTab C9 and Craig CMP-738 series tablets. Otherwise I won't be able to upgrade apps I downloaded or get more apps from there.

Also I noticed my Android Developer's fee was carried over and is active in the new Google Play. I hope it's lifetime. I'm not sure where Google is going with all this. They NEVER notified me in email or anything about the change! I accidentally found out trying to get to the Market via web to look up a few things.

Still will be Market app just with a make-over. They probably thought Market was too boring and wanted to change up the name to something more hip for the younger crowd.

Market=more business and formal sounding
Play=more fun and casual

I liked Market naming better but either way the app should perform pretty much the same just look little different.

Nothing to worry about. Changes to Market app will mostly be on the look not functionality.

Play sounds a bit bizarre though I think. Bit informal. Market is professional and a brand that everyone is already familiar with.

What is absolutely hilarious is that I was working on a friend's Galaxy Tab, and in the middle of doing so...market changed to Google Play. That's great BUT...without notification I was half raging about not being able to find market, how it was somehow magically removed. Started removing the 10 million apps the individual had hahaha, good times.
Finally realized "Wth is 'google play' that sounds retarded, tap...OH!"
Yep, the name is moronic, but it came with a funny story right there at least.
