Well, looks like I'll have to give up on getting a Gemei. I got this email this morning from "Fastcard"

"Dear Buyer:
Thanks for your order from www.fastcardtech.com.

we found some hardware problems on the phone when we tested the phone. As we are responsible for all of our customers all the time,so we held on the package.
So now we would like to ask for your opinion:
Would you like to change to another item or refund ?
Any way we at your service.
We sincerely apologized for any inconveniences.

I'm looking forward to your early reply.

Thank you! Have a good day!"

Thinking about just getting something locally. this was the first time trying to buy from out of the country and I have pretty much lost faith at this point.

HuH Phone ?????? I'm still waiting on the order from ShadySpammers.. 6days Till Shipment i Hope....

Exactly! Lets just say that I won't be using them again. Going to go ahead and get my 2nd refund and will try 1 more time. Just finished chatting with "Alibaba" and they guarantee that they have it available to ship. They have the 16GB for $239 shipping DHL to the States. We will see.

I can verify that Merimobiles advised me they got stock yesterday.
They fulfilled their pre-orders first and are now able to sell the remainder.

Hello,

We have software issue with the G9 and we want to understand the problem.
For new users, before to upgrade, Is it possible to try Google Earth with :
1)stock firmware
2) new 4.10 firmware
3) after rooted
4) after change build.prop

Just post in the "Software compatibility topic" to give us the result.
For example :
1) OK
2) OK
3) Crashed
4) Crashed

Thank you for your help!

I too would like to know if you are able to download Google Earth, Google Maps and Fruit Ninja and have them run before flashing new firmware or rooting your device. Some of us upgraded right away and are wondering if this is an issue with firmware or root script.

Cheers,
Sean

Can Google Maps find your location? I get "Please enable a My Location source in system settings", even though In "Location services" I have everything ticked (for testing purposes) and still no luck. Am I missing something here?

Deactivate the GPS location in parameters. Google Map ca find the nearest location with Wifi!

I meant to say that I have tried all possible combinations in "Location services" (I know G9 comes with no GPS), but still nothing works. I get the same msg as above (tried again what you said..after powering off and then on). Are you using Mr. T's 4.0.3 V4.10+rooted?

Thanks

Most likely the issue is caused because the system does not have all the Gapps and underlying pieces installed.
I get the same message after I downloaded maps from the market.

I just tested Fruit Ninja (full version) from the Market and it seems to play fine.
I downloaded Google Earth... It got to the globe, but then force closed/stopped.

I received my Gemei G9 yesterday (4/16/2012). I ordered the G9 from Merimobiles on 3/14/2012 and it stayed in US customs about 3 weeks. Opened up the package, pushed the power button and spent many hours playing with my first Tablet Computer. No major issues were found initially. The G9 I received had a Black back. Since I am newbie to tablets, I will look very carefully at Mr. T's rooting software and try to install it. I believe I should not change the firmware that came with the G9. One minor issue that I see is that I can not view video from Yahoo. No problem with BBC video. Not sure if I need an app for the video. I have not tried YouTube as yet. Need to look into a case for the G9. So far I have been excited having the device and I am very happy with the network performance, battery life and great screen shots...

Thanks to Mr. T for convincing me to buy the G9 and Thanks for all the folks on this forum for day-to-day help.
