Hi guy's,

Well I got my Aurora today however it is rather slow, battery runs out quick, and the build quality could be better, it has some light leakage from one corner. BUT I friggin love it!! You can only see the light leakage if you look at the green at an angle, and everything is software optimisation.
Anyway, I am having trouble trying to get SETCPU to work, it won't get superuser permission. The device came from GadgetFreakz with 4.0.3. It has Supeuser? installed but I can't update it's binary's, it gives an error. I have also tried to install the SU Update Fixer and again it doesn't work. It tells me to download and flash an update.zip from androidsu.com?

Any ideas? Also is Opera Mobile better then the Android one as it has both or are there better ones, and why have I got two email programmes? One is Gmail, and the other is just email? They both appear to be the same. How do I set it so only one is used?

Thanks..

Oh, the superuser version is v3.0.7 (41) and when I try to update the Su binary null (it tells me their is an update and the installed version = legacy) it working then stops and I get: Unfortunately, Superuser has stopped. and I have to press OK?

Hmm, I'm not too knowledgeable on this subject and hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will answer this.

However, if I were in your position, I would just start over again and flash it with the stock 4.0.3 firmware that's posted on this forum.

This is the latest firmware to date.

However, this is the one I'm using. (With the 0.4 Almaz's Script)

The Almaz Script also comes with instructions on how to root your device which worked perfectly for me. SetCPU also worked perfectly for me with this firmware and script.

Another option is to use this ROM that Android-kun created which comes pre-rooted, pre-tweaked... etc. etc. I haven't used it myself, but a lot of people have been praising it so I'm assuming it's pretty good.

Link: http://www.slatedroi...v03-for-aurora/

I personally use Opera Mobile instead of the stock browser. People have been saying that the stock browser is currently slow and needs to be updated. Other options for browsers that people have been talking about are Dolphin Browser HD and Boat Browser. I haven't used those two, so I can't give any opinion on them.

Gmail is used to sync with your Gmail email account. You can't use Gmail to sync with any other email accounts such as Hotmail or Yahoo.

Email is the stock email sync program that can be set up to sync with other emails that are not Gmail such as Hotmail and Yahoo. It can be used to sync with Gmail, but you might as well just use the Gmail program for that. I personally don't use the Email app since I don't have an email that isn't under Gmail.

I hope that answered most of your questions.

edit: Lots and lots of spelling and grammatical errors.....

Thanks a lot Darkn :drinks: I have gone dolphin hd for my browser, any idea how to stop the email programme from working or do I have to delete it? Also my device is very slow so is it easy to root the official aionol firmware? Looks like my device is running something by snake @ubuntu? What's the performance of your device like?

Hi MarkyR74,
I got mine yesterday from Gadget freakz too.
I've no problem with battery life. It arrived with 50% charge and lasted approx 3 hours and today is looking like I'll get 5-6 hours from it.
Speed also is fine, but then I'm used to an old very slow tablet, so this may just be my relative comparison.
I haven't seen setcpu yet, where is it located, and I'll try it.

Opera is a browser designed for mobile devices, where it doesn't download all the page at once and so saves your download costs. Love it on my phone, but if I'm using wifi I prefer something else.

Where did you find the super user version?

In Android 4.0.1, you can disable the Application by going to the Application Menu, hold press on the application and then go to App Info.

On the next screen, one of the buttons should say "Disable". This doesn't remove it from the device but stops it from running. If you want to remove a system application from your device (which the Email App is), you have to Root your device first and then remove it with either Root Explorer or a similar application.

Yes, it's fairly easy to root this device. What I basically did was update my firmware from 4.0.1 to 4.0.3 using these instructions.

Link: http://www.slatedroi...-thanks-martin/

If your device is already using 4.0.3 , you can just use the Almaz Script (instructions on how to Root are in the thread)

Link: http://www.slatedroi...x-v04-by-almaz/

I have done both of the above and the performance of my device is close to silky smooth before underclocking the CPU with the SetCPU app. I've now changed the governor of my CPU to "OnDemand" which ramps up the CPU whenever I need it thus saving battery life. I believe the performance of my device after underclocking is decent, however I might just have a low expectation compared to other people.

If your tablet is REALLY slow, I suggest reflashing it with the above firmware so that your tablet starts back at a clean state.

Another option which I highly recommend is to just use Android-kun's ROM which is linked here (instructions on how to apply it are in the thread)

Link: http://www.slatedroi...v04-for-aurora/

This ROM basically does all the hard work for you so you don't have to do everything manually.

So it's easy to remove my rooted firmware it already has and then install the latest official Ainol one? I may use one that you posted though as android-kun states his firmware is based on the official Aionol ROM and firmware. Saves me some work? If I follow instructions what are the chances of bricking the device?

I thought Gadgetfreakz used the Android Kun ROM on all its Auroras before they shipped them?

If you have no chinese apps then they have used the android kun clean rom as the other updates and root scripts do not do this

I'd contact Gadgetfreakz if I were you. I think I read on their site that if you reflash etc without speaking to them you'll invalidate their warrantee. They'll also confirm in Android-kun rom was used.

On a second issue, I need help, I found SETCPU and managed to disable it, but now I can't find out how to re-enable it. I seems to have been unistalled totally. Can anyone help?

Thanks rc3675, perhaps a GadgetFreakz member could comment on here? I can't do anything until Saturday now as I'm away for work but I can always reflash it with the firmware they used?

My issue was with superuser, not setcpu, and I've solved it. Going into settings / apps / all, then scroll to the bottom of the list and found it :-)

MarkyR74, please post how it all goes. Good idea, let's see if Gadgetfreakz can contribute

Thought I would update. I have updated superuser to the elite version to see if it would help but it didn't, also it seems people with problems have updated the superuser binary's only in safe mode. I have ordered an sd card to try this as am I right in thinking you cannot flash or update programmes in this way using the internal storage

Go in settings - Language & Input.
Then u will see different input methods such as different keyboards. Just select "Android English" as default from there. :)

Though I'm using Swift keyboard which feels better than stock English one. Some others have tried Thumbs keyboard too. Even that is better than stock.

While we are talking about keyboards... I personally have fallen in love in Hackers Keyboard. Its a fullsize keyboard, with the numbers on the top row.
No need to press something to switch the "layout" (I cant find the correct term atm) just to write a number!
Its also very fast to type on, imo, because the layout is identical to your classic PC keyboard.
Downside - it doesnt have spell correction as far as Im aware.

Thumbs keyboard is quite nice when you are holding the device in landscape, but I find it a bit confusing (not used to it, I guess) which affects the typing speed :p

Hm, this post because quite a lot offtopic.. sorry 'bout that :(

Very helpful. It's definitely better than Thumbs keyboard & Swift keyboard. Both others are paid ones aswell. But this one is free and it's exactly like a normal keyboard.
It's a headache for me too when I've to type in numbers & just for that, I've to shuffle b/w layouts.
This one is perfect. :)
Thanks for the info share.
