Having used the Elf for sometime now and the Aurora for a couple of days I wanted to share a quick thought/gripe.

The Aurora has a better screen and is a smidge thinner... It ends there.

The Elf has far superior build quality. I purchased 3 Aurora's for myself and 2 customers. One of them has a sizable gap between the edge and the front face. You can look down into it and see ports. The other two don't have this issue but cmon' :(

The Buttons feel ridiculous cheap, they rattle around like mad. the Button my my Elf look really good (engraved instead of printed on) and are "tight". NO RATTLE.

I still like the Aurora better but it is ALL the IPS screen. If the Elf had the same screen I would ditch the Aurora in a heartbeat.

Just my gripe about Ainol having piss-poor build quality on their "top end" product :(

Nice to read your post. I bought one Aurora and I love the Ips screen, nice and clear.

But I also have this disturbing gap between the edge and the front face. This gap makes my tablet kllnrrrrr and click when I use it. No high quality product feeling.

I contacted my Chinese Aliexpress retailer and get the answare that it was man-made. They give example that I have dropped the tablet in the floor... Ha, ha, ha. No refund or something like that. Man made, only myself to blame. That's Not so easy to deal with this chinatraders.

Why did they have to change the design in the first place? Why not just stick an IPS screen and better camera (forgot the mention the clearer cam) in the Elf, rename it the Aurora and call it a day?

I'm looking at these two tabs at the moment and well:
http://www.china-tab...let-pc-8205.htm
It says it has a IPS screen, mis print?
Just a question about ICS stability and wifi range, how are these both? Does flash play well?

I guess they feel the under-10mm thickness will be a big selling point. Otherwise in pure numbers terms, the Aurora and the Elf are identical. It's probably easier for an uninformed customer to understand that one model has more or less of something than another, than to appreciate the benefit of an IPS screen.

Other things I have noticed that I like about the Aurora. The Camera is a bit nicer AND, the rotation sensor seems to be faster. Does an IPS screen take less power?

Just noticed something else wrong with another of the devices. It happened when I pulled a white screen up. I have dark areas along the bottom edge of the screen (like a big one in one corner and then all along the bottom) This is really disappointing. I think Ainol's quality control sucks. I have had issues with every single model I have ever gotten from them and it is always sporadic stuff. The Novo 7 Advanced was hell on earth as far as RMA's went but hell or not I took care of every single customer. :)
But it was expensive for me :(. As soon as another manufacturer comes out with a similarly priced IPS 7" A10 tablet (same or better battery) I will jump the Ainol ship in a heartbeat. That is why I ended up going with the Momo 9 from ployer. It is SO much better than the Advanced and I have way less quality issues. I think Ainol just markets well and their devices look sexy so they sell.

EDIT: I am not saying the Aurora is a bad product. I am saying they have bad quality control so I get a lot of defective units. :( And NO, those don't go to customers lol, they go back to my supplier.

I dump ICS as soon as I get the devices and I create my own custom Android 2.3 roms for customers. That is about how I feel about ICS on the A10 platform right now :)

IPS on the Elf is a total mis-print. Typical when you are buying chinese electronics from chinese retailers. They rarely get their specs straight, always err on the side of what markets best if there is a question, and some blatantly lie. Watch yourself :). Aside from myself, I tend to refer people to MP4nation and Merimobiles. Merimobiles occasionally gets stuff wrong but they are fairly safe to buy from I think.

I have had both and agree completely, the elf build quality is far superior and it's just nice to hold but the IPS screen on the Aurora makes it much nicer to use but it feels like a toy. I sold the elf in the end because of the screen but now I'm wondering if I should of tried to swap the screens...

is there any performance differences between the two? how does the First Novo7 Advanced Model pare to these performance wise? how well would you say the Firmware is built for the two?

Maybe Ainol could make a new Aurora tablet but with the case from ELF that is much better i think. THey can even put a full size usb port and some bluetooth and it will be the perfect tablet.
