Just a quick gripe...

I read a post on another forum from someone who obviously didn't have a clue. But I want to correct this lest it spread :)

Said poster basically stated that the A10 chipset with Mali-400 GPU is not good enough to push a 1024x600 resolution and HENCE that is why the review videos all look laggy...

This person was dead wrong. Because the flipping tablet runs phenomenally smooth and well with Android 2.3.4. Games like Shadow Gun run effortlessly. So lets just set the record straight.

Allwinner has done a crap job with ICS firmware. They are getting better, but so far what is out is pretty piss poor. This is a firmware issue, not a lack of hardware. The exynos chipset use the SGS II uses the same GPU. Granted it is a dual-core A9 and yes it is faster/better. But the GPU is the same. And, as I already mentioned, Android 2.3.4 runs perfectly, no lag, etc. This is an ICS/Firmware/Allwinner Software issue.

Cheers,

I agree. And have written this same thing before on youtube aswell as here on forum also when people mention lag & performance issue; but they don't tend to realize that it's just that ICS firmware is not developed properly yet for Aurora or I should say A10 chipset I suppose. But in time, we will see better firmwares being developed and some modded ROMS aswell. :)
Aurora is a pretty powerful device hardware-wise - No Doubt there !

Considering no other branded tablet yet are running smoothly on ICS...

What we're getting at on ICS now is incredibly great support from Ainol...

Correct, ICS does not run that well. Maybe not ported well either? Even when you do benches you can see the performance difference between the two Android OSes.

Android 4 VS Android 2.3 - Novo 7 Elf
•Neocore (3D) – 35.8 FPS VS 42.2 FPS
•Linpack (CPU) – 10.401 MFLOPS in 8.06Sec VS 15.959 MFLOPS in 5.25Sec

Neocore (3D) - 37.6 FPS (Android 4) - Novo 7 Aurora
http://habrahabr.ru/...iTablet/138243/

Linpack takes a huge hit by going to ICS. Neocore even takes a decent performance hit too.

Add to this that people should usually avoid X.0 software or firmware and always wait for X.1. X.1 is when developers start fixing up their software to perform better. I would wait for at least X.1 (4.1) before upgrading the firmware on any tablet. Compare Android 2.0 VS 2.1 VS 2.2 VS 2.3 and you will see how the OS got better stability and performance.

The tablet will take a small, gaming performance hit because of the higher resolution screen but games should still be very playable and smooth. Games will run smoothly if you can get 30FPS or higher which I am sure the Elf and Aurora can do even running Android 4.

The Mali-400 is certainly capable of pushing 1024x600. We know that because the same GPU in the Galaxy Note pushes 1280x800 with no problem :)

I'm almost certain it's the drivers. CM9 on my Galaxy S2 is noticeably less smooth than CM9 on my girlfriend's Galaxy S1 which has more mature drivers.
