I can't figure out how to save the APN either, driving me nutz... I am using a E220 that does connect sometimes... I have found that I need to reboot it order to get it to connect. What process do I need to kill or stop the 3g or usb so that I don't have to reboot every time?

Can you tell me how to save apn settings. Once I give apn name, user name etc. it does not allow me to save. Only 2 options, new apn and reset to default. If I tap on new apn, and give details, it doesn't have any save button.
Any idea how to do this?

Frmbhb, did you solve it?
I have the same problem.
- Ainol Aurora, Essential ROM 0.9b
- Huawei E173
I can't SAVE.
The led from E173 blinks blue.
All APN settings done, nothing happens, no 3G connection.

Same situation with ECR-CWM-v1.1a.
No Save button in the APN menu.
No 3G icon.
I think the system doesn't recognize the dongle.
However, I found on the net Aurora users that succeed to enable the 3G via Huawei E173 stick.

Ok. I suppose the tablet doesn't recognize my 3g dongle (maybe no 3g dongle connection- no apn list).

I added manually many times.
I'm sure the APN settings are ok.
Today tried the aurora_4.03_feiyu_mod(0405) via LiveSuitPack_v1.07
Same situation.
The dongle blinks blue. No APN in list. No 3G connection.
In terminal console I taped lsusb. The dongle modem is: 12d1:1c05.
How can I verify if it's 3g network problem, dongle driver problem on ICS, 3g_dongle.cfg, usb_modeswitch.d or something else?

PS: No pin, no cd mode active for the dongle.
The dongle it's working on pc Win XP, Win 7.

I also badly need a solution for this. Here I don't have wifi. Only way I can get internet on this is through EC156 3G Huawei Dongle (Tata Docomo Photon India). Some how trying to test all roms to make this work. But seems no luck.

Is this to do something with "3G Enabler" which is mentioned on Opening page of Kun's ECR ?

Please help.

In the Kun's 1.1a ROM zip file, there is a folder system withing that etc folder, in that I found a file 3g_dongle.cfg in which the following lines were there.

But this list does not mention anything about EC156 huawei 3g dongle, which I am trying. Any interpretations, about this ???

The dongle it's working on pc Win XP, Win 7.

I'm in the same situation. I traced the problem, and it seems that the android kernel cannot load the needed driver for the modem. The needed modules are "usb-serial", and "option", with the latter being auto-loaded as a dependency for the former.
I tried searching for these modules but no dice. Yet they appear in the /sys/bus/usb-serial/ path, so they must be compiled into the kernel.
Then I tried manually binding the Vendor ID and Product ID to the usb-serial module, and it didn't appear to work, again.
After all that, I found out that when I insert my modem, usb-modeswitch is invoked. It fails, as the modem is in "modem-only" operation already, but that makes me wonder whether this breaks some script intended for setting it up. So what is left is to set the modem back to the original "modem + cdrom + card reader" mode, and see what would happen then.

So, in a nutshell, the whole problem with the modem is that the usb-serial module cannot be bound to the modem, in order to create the needed /dev/ttyUSB interfaces.

Anybody else have any other experience?

I found on someother website somefiles which needed tobe copied here and there and rights given for those files. Using superuser permission, everytime I need internet, I enter into terminal emulator and execute some cdma.sh for my Huawei EC156 (CDMA) based to work. And it works. Presently I'm using Feiyu (0418) ROM.
The credit for this tweak should go to the writer NOT me.

For details google : "How to use Tata Photon, BSNL EVDO, Reliance Netconnect, MTS, 3G dongles on Android Tablets"

usb_modeswitch.conf /etc/
usb_modeswitch /system/xbin/
gprs /etc/ppp/peers/
ip-up /etc/ppp/
cdma.sh /system/xbin/
chmod 777 /system/xbin/cdma.sh
chmod 777 /system/xbin/usb_modeswitch
chmod 755 /etc/ppp/ip-up

Please post your feedback.

BTW, Do you know anything about 'Google Play' to work without WIFI but with internet connection (through Dongle). My tablet searches for WIFI and I don't have it, so it won't go further. Please advise.
