I am sorry if this is a double post but I think my other post was in the wrong area.

I am using a factory install of 20120112 out of the box.

On the storage tab of settings. The internal NAND memory does not seem to be available for application use. it only shows 6.5GB available and the application tab will not transfer apps to the internal NAND only the 512MB internal memory. File manager shows that the camera app does save to this NAND memory.

Q: does the internal NAND memory allow use beyond just the cammera app? Will 20120212 require SD card for application loads so that we do not need to use up the 512MB DDR memory?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

I know very little about android os but in my experience the NAND area is for pictures, music, and the like. It is the "8gb" that our tablet is advertised as having (- the amount taken up by the system files). Hopfully someone with more knowlege will chime in.
Thanks to all that take the time to share info on the forums.

Thanks I get it. We need to use the SD card slot for app expansion and this NAND is used for our files like photo videos and music. And of course the OS.

I think you are getting confused between memory (RAM) and storage space.

The W6HD has 512MB of DDR RAM (memory). This is where currently running programs store temporary data. When you turn off the tablet, the memory is cleared. This is equivalent to the 2-8GB of RAM you have inside a PC/Laptop.

The W6HD also has 8GB of NAND storage (equivalent to the 80GB-2TB HDD you have inside your PC/laptop)
It is partitioned into several sections, one being approx 6.5GB which acts as an internal SD card (though whether applications recognise it as an sd card depends on whether you are using the 20120115 firmware). The rest of the 8GB is split between the android system and android data partitions.

Android system contains the Android OS, and the data partition is where apps and personal data is stored. This has been set to 512MB in size by the creators of the firmware.

Now I don't see why you won't be able to move some apps (where the developer has supported it) to the SD card, as you would on an android phone. However what constitutes the SD card depends on the firmware. For the 20120112 firmware, the SD card is the external SD card. For 20120115, it is the internal 6.5GB storage.

Note that not all apps can be moved to the SD card! Hopefully one day we'll get a CM9 port on this tablet, at which point we should be able to move ny app we choose, but that might be a while yet!

That was a terrific explanation and I understand it fully.

The 512MB partition I guess cannot be expanded to 1 GB or greater out of the 8GB NAND. too bad. that should be something that should be user selectable. I have more need for app space than photos or music.

thanks again.

Just seen my friends Novo Advanced, it's memory 512MB, can be combined with it's NAND memory, so that it goes up to 1 GB, I think Ramos ROM is somewhat crippled, really regret that I chose Ramos ... :(

sorry , but what do you mean exactly ? how can be combined (the RAM) ?

Azzy check the latest official firmware , 1GB Internal Storage (not RAM memory , internal storage)
