[Kairnage]

So my new Pocket Primer comes tomorrow. I will start working on rooting it, but I thought I would start a thread for it. If people who have the Primer and have attempted root can post here what they have tried it can help me keep from going over charted territory.

UPDATE 2/4

So using Linux, I was able to connect though ADB to the Pocket. I was able to get read/write access, but no root so far. I pushed a rooted su and new superuser. Changed a couple of settings.

The Pocket is similar to the t301 and identifies exactly the same in ADB. I have tried a couple of root attempts using the commands for the t301 and they appear to work, but then reboot no root.

Next is to take apart a rooted t301 ROM.

But some good news. I couldn't find a way into recovery using the pads buttons, but "adb reboot recovery" takes you into recovery. Once I make a backup of my recovery there is a CWM recovery for the t301 and a flashable root, going to give that a shot.

That's what I was thinking but some people are reporting ADB doesn't see the device so SOC might not see it. I have downloaded some older 2.2 roots. First I am go9ing to check it with root check because it might just be a matter of getting a new su and installing superuser.

Also it might be root in shell already. The problem could be that for a "normal" root it needs su and superuser. The problem with that is I think it is a mips processor. Doesn't the su.binary have to be written for the processor?

OK so played with it most of last night. ADB can't see it. One odd thing is root explorer gives the option to mount rw but nothing happens. Normally the option is not there. Easy Root, all 5 versions of Universal Androot, and Gingerbreak, no joy. Going to install terminal emulator next and test shell root.

Still haven't tried the CWM but I have been able to grant r/w access and have su through terminal thanx to the posts over in the Velocity forum.. It's a start .

Going to let NeighborhoodHacker remote in and take a stab at rooting it. I flashed back to stock. If he can't get it we will go back to r/w and su in terminal and I will post the how to, then work on a mod package with some performance tweaks and visuals. It will have to go through ADB. ADB should work with Vista and XP 32.

Kairnage were you able to figure anything out on this? I was thinking of picking one up for my daughter
but would love to be running a rooted/googled Pocket Primer.

It is rooted. Just not running the Superuser.apk correctly. You can get Market on it, it is just a little more work. How old is your daughter? This is a really nice little unit, but again it is more an MP5 than a full on android tablet. Because of the mips processor, some games won't run on it. But it plays movies excellent so far and there are some mips compatible app libraries posted around.

Hey Kairnage. Did you manage to get a tutorial going yet? I'd at least like to get the Android Market on it.
I understand most newer games won't be able to run on it. Hell, most apps from the Amazon Marketplace don't work.
