Hello All,

In this post is a relatively basic .BAT script.

This is a straightforward script.
It's sole purpose is to get your device rooted and provide the tools to verify it.
- Cleaned Up some extra unneeded files and added the Android Market App Upgrade from ContemptX! - Thanks!

I have added some options to Disable and Enable services to hopefully help with battery life.

**IMPORTANT PRE-CHECK LIST**

Connect your tablet using the OTG port (normal procedure)
- YOU MUST USE THE INCLUDED USB CABLE
Make sure USB Debugging is ENABLED
- Settings --> Applications --> Development --> USB debugging (Green Checkmark)
Make sure to check Device Manager to ensure that there aren't any devices with a yellow exclamation mark.
- Right Click on My Computer --> Manage Device --> Device Manager
Here is a link to a driver package I created... (not positive it contains the needed one for this device, but it is a good place to start)

Instructions:

Extract the folder to ANY location you wish. (it is self contained)

Run !RUN-ME-Tasselhof-RootScript.bat

You will be given the following prompt:

Make sure to enable USB Debugging on the tablet
- Settings -) Applications -) Development -) USB debugging (green checkmark)

1. Check Tablet Connection
2. Verify Tablet is ROOT Capable (with this script)
3. Run ROOT Script

4. Upgrade Android Market App
5. Disable Services to Increase Battery Life
- Phone, 3G, Bluetooth, Provision, VPN
6. Re-Enable All Services
7. Enable Only 3G Services
8. Enable Only Bluetooth Service
9. Quit

Choose Option (1 thru 9):

Option 3 Performs the actual ROOT process.
- It also installs the following programs: (don't worry if they are already installed)

* Superuser
* Root Checker
* Root Explorer
* Busybox

Option 4 attempts to replace the Android Market App with an updated version.
Option 5 Disables various service APKs to try to save battery life.

Bluetooth.apk
Mms.apk
Provision.apk
TelephonyProvider.apk
VpnServices.apk
Network3gMonitor.apk
shortcut3g.apk
Phone.apk - (Requires Immediate Hard Power Off and Reboot)

Option 6 Re-Enables all of the above services
Option 7 Re-Enables all of the above services except Bluetooth.apk
Option 8 Re-Enables only Bluetooth.apk

This is probably a really stupid question, but might I inquire as to what exactly Option 4 does? Am I required to get a previous version of Android Market onto the device before I use this script option or does the script automatically push a version of Android Market to the device?

This script includes a version of the android market.
Option 4 simply pushes it on to the device.

Many thanks Tasselhof for this... I can finally take my Aurora for a full test drive. I mentioned before in another thread that I am a newb when it comes to android tablets. Is this procedure pretty much fail-safe? Just run the bat file on my windows 7 machine (after following inital instructions of course)?

Would you recommend that I also install the lordsbm script after running yours?

Lastly, is there a way to backup the tablet so that I can "repair" it in case something unforseen happens during install?

Everything is running fine on my device after both scripts...
So it is as safe as... proceed at your own risk...

I downloaded the drivers from the link on top "Mediafire.com - Android-USB-MultipleDriverPack.rar" but it wont install (running the .inf file)
when I downloaded the PdaNet it installed the driver and the it's not yellow on the Device Manager (the PdaNet was in the same folder with the extracted driver pack)
is this OK ? can I proceed with the script ?

I ran the bat script, and it looks like it went ok. However, when I went to set up an account to the tablet, I keep getting "Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped." whenever there is a user keyboard input required. Any tips on how to fix this?

Yup, this error shows up when i try to setup my googleMail account on the tablet. If I remove the user acount... the "acore" error goes away.... Any tips on how to fix this?

The Market is also unaccessable. "You must add an account to the device to continue. Do you want to add one now?" I click yes, and the window closes... and nothing happens....

That worked like a charm. Full access to market now. Only a minor problem exits. I am trying to update Angry Birds Rio to newest, but it complains about wanting to uninstall the version that came with the tablet (unsigned package or something). I go into the app settings, and I can only disable or clear data, but not option to uninstall it. How can I go about manually deleting this from the tablet so that I can download it from the market?

Use a program like ES File Explorer and enable root access in the settings... then mount the system.

Browse to system/app and see if it is in there and delete it.

Thanks for this MrTasselhof! I have just ordered my Aurora from China for just over £100 . It is nice to know that root, android market and various other things will be available when I receive it! It is good to see a nice active community, hopefully it will remain active and I will do what I can to contribute .

I received my Aurora today and have tried your script.

Rooting worked and the market app was pushed to my device, but I cannot open the app as I'm given a notification that I need to add an account first - choosing yes does nothing. I note that no GAPPS are installed - is this the problem?

No - I'm running it now - I didn't realise your script didn't install the market with option 4 if it wasn't already installed.

Thanks for posting this. I'm having trouble running the linux conversion in terminal on a Mac. The script runs, but it can't find adb. I've copied into the extracted folder.

Thank you. I had to install PdaNet. Then I used your script, but as stated by another user, the android market wasn't functioning properly so I ran lordsbm's script. Worked like a charm.
