Hey did anybody here ever play Morrowind? It's not off topic don't worry ;)

Well eh, yeah, I grabbed it during the Steam sales in the Quakecon pack, haven't played a lot of it.

Ok well it shits on oblivion and skyrims chest, but anyway, look what I stumbled upon :) http://openmw.org/ It looks to me like a morrowind port for linux. Is there any reason this couldn't be repackaged and simplified for our android tabs?

Eh probably not since you'd be trying to run an application designed to run on X86 CPUs on ARM.

morrowind doesn't require powerful hardware, look at the specs: Windows ME/98 128 MB RAM; Windows XP/2000 256 MB RAM; 500 MHz Intel Pentium III, Celeron, or AMD Athlon processor; 8x CD/DVD-ROM Drive; 1 GB free hard disk space; Windows swapfile; DirectX 8.1 (included); 32MB Direct3D Compatible video card and DirectX 8.1 compatible driver; DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card; Keyboard; Mouse

Since we don't need direct x support (it's being ported to linux obviously) the only problem I could foresee would be the architecture crossover... Correct me if I'm wrong and I know it's just wishful thinking. But if would be my dream! :D

Man if they got the drivers and everything to work for the TP (since it's tegra 3 it's actually supported) they could boot up say ubuntu and do some serious work with that quad core!

I'm not dev but my guess it would be very complicated and take months to port. Plus remember: X86 =/= ARM.

Ubuntu already boots on the TP, our gtab, and many other devices. Linux has plenty of quality ARM supported apps, hopefully I can figure out how to get xubuntu/backtrack 5 running before my keyboard case gets here!

You missed my point, yes the OS can run on ARM but the application (Morrowind) can't. That was a major issue when MS announced Windows 8 on ARM. So you'll be able to instal Xunbuntu but Morrowind won't run.

Oh yeah I'd already figured that, they'd need to rewire the whole app and still I'd have to say good luck XD not very playable lol

OK, question for the kernel guys that are paying attention here (redirected from irc).

Is the console redirection to ttyUSB0 needed always? I ask because I found my old USB GPS puck (pl2303) and it attaches to /dev/ttyUSB0, which in turn causes the console to attach there. That makes the GPS puck unusable since the console has priority. I was able to repack boot.img without the 'console=ttyUSB0,115200n8 androidboot.console=ttyUSB0' and then able to use the GPS puck with some other tools and actually get it working with Google Maps and some other apps.

With all of that being said, I'm going to assume that the console output over ttyUSB0 is needed in development, but wondering if it would be feasible to leave it out come final build time?
