@iodiak

I looked at the link for the overclock module.
I think the same thing is possible with this tablet, and I even thought about the same way before you showed me the other module.
It just seems quite hacky: Changing frequency table in memory while the tablet is running...
I do not think I can just take his module and use though. I will have to do some work, and I am short on time lately.

My daughter will come any day now (2. child) so I guess it will make me even slower at developing.

You are welcome to start looking at it if you feel like.

Great rom, mala! I'm going to flash the original april 2011 2.3 firmware, do some benchmarking, and then install your rom again and benchmark again, just to see the real improvements!! :)
Meanwhile I wanted to ask... do you think there will ever be any further update of MalaROM? You have already done a great work, I'm just asking :)

I have some fixes ready:

Sure in next release
-Nicer look of icons in status bar
-% indicator in battery in status bar
-No icons on default desktop
-Speaker icon in dock gives default music player instead of always "music"
-Market 3.4.4 (currently Market updates itself to 3.4.4 but its nicer to have "stock")
-Update of a few built in apps (News and weather etc.)
-More drivers in DriverPack
-Move basic drivers for bluetooth, serial etc. to system even if DriverPack is not installed
-Load basic drivers for serial always
-Updated time zone files

Other things, maybe next release, maybe later
-Register looong list of vendor/product ids for serial (to automatically support usb 3G modems)
-Advanced remote control driver, allowing for more than one command per button and customizable commands

Experimental (has to test)
-usbmodeswitch app to support USB 3G modems without disabling CDROM.
-Turn on always HW accelerated graphics for 3D (games etc.)
-Turn on HW accelerated GUI
-Different button layouts
-Automatic internet time synchronization (not so easy since it needs root)
-Nicer shell for adb

So when will 1.2.0 come out?
No idea. My daughter still has not arrived, so I have no idea how busy I will be when she does.

Hello Mala. I am the owner of a Hipad M701-R HY, and i have to tell you that for the past 6 months the tablet was just gathering dust, until i decided to try your rom.

Now the tablet is my right hand! I was looking for a replacement, but now the touchscreen is extremly responsive and the whole pad feels extremly faster! I know you are busy (and hope the best for your second chlid), but please make the fixes you have ready and please try to find a way to make the kernel o/cable!

Greetings from Greece, and thanks again!

Nikos :)

btw i'll gladly help by betatesting any future updates :D

I have two M701 devices. One back has 3 shorter curves slits (speaker). I was able to use the MalaRom with the MI build. The other tablet has 1 longer straight slit (speaker). I tried the same build seeing the size of space but it failed the CRC twice. So once I disconnected it and reconnected I can't get the device to connect correctly to run adbshell. I even tried it on another computer. If I turn it on, in device manager it shows up as ADB Interface - Fastboot interface (google USB ID). If I turn it on and hold the right rocker I get the blueish screen with a design with the logo Haipad. Then I get a Universal Serial Bus Controller - Telechips TCC89xx VTC USB Driver. How do I get this to connect or fixed. I do have the backup files from your script.

The first device sounds like a fake or copy, not a real m701.
The second device sounds more like a real m701. Maybe it is a HY model. Did you try to flash the HY version of the ROM?

I was going to try that one but can't get the device to connect. My previous message states the status. Any ideas how to get it to connect?

Why do you want to use adb shell? The flashing is done using the FWDN tool. I think that should basically work always.
In my guide you only use adb to backup/restore information to use before/after flashing. If you did that before the first flashing attempt you should be OK.

Just to be sure, this is my impression of what you did:
1. Backed up settings to first tablet
2. Flashed MI to first tablet
3. Restored settings to first tablet
4. Backed up settings to second tablet
5. Flashed second tablet (Failed with CRC)

The tablet settings are saved in a folder called "TabletSettingsBackup".

Since you used same MI folder (right?) for both tablets, the information in TabletSettingsBackup would have been overwritten in step 4 above. TabletSettingsBackup should therefore hold a valid backup for second tablet.
You can verify this:
Start the first tablet, and find the mac address. It can be seen in Settings->Wireless & networks->Wi-Fi settings. Press the menu button and choose advanced.
Compare this mac address with the one in TabletSettingsBackup\TabletInfo.txt. They should be DIFFERENT (since file should contain mac address of second tablet).

If my description of the situation is correct, then simply unpack a HY version of MalaRom 1.1.0. Then copy the TabletSettingsBackup from MI folder to new HY folder.
Then flash HY version starting at step 5 in the Flashing Guide.

If my description is not correct, then write back what you did. It is important that you have a backup of settings from second tablet. So lets try to be sure before you do anything more.

I renamed the backup folder after the first tablet was completed. Then the second tablet created another backup folder so I have both sets of backups. I was only using adb shell to make sure the tablet was connected correctly. It keeps going to a command prompt without the # so something isn't right. It seems I can't get the device to register correctly on the computer now. I am following your doc and instructions but no luck.
Due to having both sets of backups I do have the mac address of both devices. If someone can help trouble shoot getting the device to connect I think I shouldn't have issue. Any ideas?

If I turn it on, in device manager it shows up as ADB Interface - Fastboot interface (google USB ID). If I turn it on and hold the right rocker I get the blueish screen with a design with the logo Haipad. Then I get a Universal Serial Bus Controller - Telechips TCC89xx VTC USB Driver.

I am a bit confused. Is the tablet able to boot normally after the failed flash attempt?

ADB is part of the android OS. If your tablet cannot boot after the failed flash, then ADB will not work. This is expected.

However FWDN is part of the hardware and not in the Android OS. So you should be able to flash the tablet, even if it will not boot.
The fact that windows sees it as "Telechips TCC89xx VTC USB Driver" when you start it with right rocker down, also indicates that FWDN mode works (FWDN == VTC).
So I still believe you should be able to flash HY version, by starting FWDN from HY folder, and turn on tablet with right rocker down (starting at step 5 in the guide).

Note that FWDN program remembers the the file locations from last use. So when you start it from FWDN folder you need to remove files in the list and add them again from correct folder. You also need to do that in the "NAND Data" dialog before you press "Create image".

Hello,

I have an Haipad M701 4GB-MI. It was with the 2.1 firmware and now flashed with Malarom. Since Malarom, It is impossible to start it.
If I want to start the hapiad I need to do that :
- button ON
- put the usb cable on the computer
and it start immediatly

With the 2.1 ROM, :
- button ON
- I push the home button
and it start

so if I want to use the haipad, I need.... a computer !!!

Any idea of the problem and maybe how to solve it ?

@cyrillem_fr

It does not sound like you have a real Haipad M701.

On the real haipad M701, the power button is on the left rocker, not the "home" button. Actually the real M701 has no home button.
Their button layout is like this:
Big on front: Back
Left rocker: Power
Right rocker: Menu

Have you tried the left rocker to start it?
When it is started (by PC) how do the buttons work?
