Hi everyone,

I'm pretty match a newbie to Zenithink. I've experimented quite a lot trying to figure out the howto , since the suggested procedure by ZT won't work.

I've found the following to work (tested with latest official Gingerbeard ROM V1.32 http://www.zenithink...ownews_259.html ) :

1. Prepare SD (size <= 4GB) formatted with FAT32 (via Win or via druid setting->storage).
2. Via Win PC : I've opened downloaded RAR content to both SD (from 1) root (/) as well as /zt-update .
3. Power on E72 with ENTER (the big square on front panel) pressed.
4. If one is sure he wants to update then press the back button and follow instructions.

:)

(BTW: Gingerbeard ROM V1.32 is great, however GPS dongle won't work - I'm trying to figure a work around).

Thanks a ton for posting this. I'm waiting for my E72 to be delivered. Wasn't sure what type of support there was as it was an impulse buy because of a sale price. $Ninety delivered with keyboard case.

The link is a dead end. Where did you get GB 1.32?

Do you think we'll be able to use any custom roms or any of the E71s?

My purchase was even stranger (I ordered a druid with certain specs via Aliexpress, however I got E72 and a refund).

It's a fine tablet and with 1.32 it runs great. Zenithink (zenithink.com) now (8/12) provides Gingerbird V1.39 download link.

I haven't installed it yet due to working on enabling a GPS dongle (USB device based on PL2303) with V1.32 (trying to produce valid loadable modules and figure an automated loading of those once produced).
I'm not that motivated to update since the changes are of low importance to me (no new lang needed and E72 is 7" and 10").

BTW: FW update is rather quick (shorter then 5 minutes). I prefer doing it on battery (after validating it's over 50% charged) then risking power failure / problems or touch screen issues while using a charger. Keep in mind this is NOT the procedure suggested by Zenithink (but their suggested procedure also states to power on with back pressed which won't initiate FW update on E72)

I've found the following to work (tested with latest official Gingerbeard ROM V1.39 http://www.zenithink...ownews_280.html ) :

1. Prepare SD (size <= 4GB) formatted with FAT32 (via Win or via druid setting->storage).
2. Via Win PC : I've opened downloaded RAR content to SD /zt-update .
3. Power on E72 with ENTER (the big square on front panel) pressed.
4. If one is sure he wants to update then press the back button and follow instructions.

:)

Bad news :( :

1. No HW based ("factory" video player) sound for AC3.
2. No GPS option at Settings (location & security).

I just set up my E72 so its ready for my wife to unwrap on Sun. It came with CM7 GB 2.3.4 installed. Is the official v1.39 update the same?

And where did you find the SD card can't be bigger than 4gb?

Thanks for the help. You seem to be the only source for community support so far.

Install Android Analyzer from http://code.google.c.../downloads/list
Use it and compare with http://androidfragme...carrier/Unknown (my own outcome of V1.32). Look at Data->FirmWare->Build number / fingerprint.

I hope for you you've V1.32 since I think it's better for E72 than V1.39 (it boots faster and no AC3 issue).

As far as I know SD for updates (not for "regular use") are limited to 4GB (for most, perhaps all, DRUIDs) - probably due to reflected "cylinder" number of the FAT32 (VFAT in Linux terms) for bootable partition limitation.

I was actually at 1.36 from the factory. Its listed in a version.txt on the root internal memory. Flashed to 1.39 because the keyboard case wouldn't work and there was a usb keyboard bug fix in the changelog. No luck. Don't have an adapter to try my normal usb keyboard on it to see which is not working, tablet or keyboard.

As for your instructions, I was having a heck of a time to get it to find the files for the update. Having rooted a few phones and always using the compressed file to update, I didn't realize I had to extract the zt-update directory until I had a nice little bruise on my forehead from banging my head on the desk. Live and learn.

I encountered 1'st beta of ICS (4.01) beta 1 for C91.
I hope that E72 beta / release will be available soon (hopefully with "Use GPS satellites" under settings->security&location as well as with functioning HW based AC3 sound).

If nothing else helps, you can always reformat (if you didn't delete the zt-update from SDCARD you can do it without even connecting the E72 or the SDCARD, using adapter, to your PC. If you did delete it, just use a USB adapter and connect your SDCARD to your PC, open the downloaded rar into a directory named zt-update on your SDCARD and then reformat ...)

:yahoo:

1. Many thanks - your good will :good: is not related to zt going public with it. I'm following the zt link and ICS for E72 wasn't there yesterday.
2. I became sort of ZT promoter (i.e. I recommended zt products to my close environment). So far, results were : 1xE72, 1xC91 and very soon another 1xFlytouch 5 ordered (all via aliexpress). atp efforts do make a difference (one can feel the manufacturer continues to support and to release new versions / solutions that enhances buyers satisfaction).

What's up with no Flash on 4.0? Anyone try this yet and how is it working?

Another strange question. On my E72, both a system monitoring app and the CM-7 settings say it was only running at 800mhz. Anyone else encounter this and does the 4.0 rom correct this? I'm bickering with E-FT about this issue now.

4.0 (0109) on E72 impressions :

(
1. I've forced installation of audio codec licenses by editing command pre installation and adding the license file
2. I forced GPU/mali usage via dev features
)

1. mkv as well as ac3 work great.
2. flv plays fine by default player.
3. Adobe flash player settings (web) hung and playing flash via browser / youtube app is cranky. I'll test later youtube downloader such as diFREE (one "pays" the net capacity anyway for playing the file - the issue is on the fly play via buffering which does not work, or downloading the file and then watching it which works).
4. GO Launcher Ex is not installed (can be added manually - however requires customization).
5. Terminal Emulation is not installed (can be added manually).
6. I think it's better to pre-install Maps 6.1 which supports navigation and is no longer beta.
7. It'll be nice to have the additional loadable modules that were compiled (such as pl2303.ko) available under build for easier integration / auto start.

2 factors to keep in mind if migrating from Gingerbird (2.3) to ICS (4.0) : settings interface is different (I prefer Gingerbird) and some application are no longer able to "sense" screen viewable size (for example sudoku).

Great work by atp (even "Use Satellites info" is now available without manual intervention in build.prop) :good: !

As far as I understand from AML (CPU manufacture) : CPU clock is 800MHz + GPU (mali) clock is 400MHz.

AM9 based CPU of 800MHz is more or less equivalent to AM8 based CPU of 1GHz.

You are talking about overclocking (which I'm not sure is desired due to battery consumption) and not about correct CPU frequency ...

BTW : kernel version is 2.6.34 (same as Gingerbird, which is good for usability of built loadable modules)

My issue is I bought an AM9 1ghz tablet. What I'm finding out is I have an 800mhz tablet. The issue is false advertising. I bought what I thought would have a good life span (hate the term "futureproof") and a more current A9 1ghz cpu would do that better than the older 1ghz A8 cpu. I have no desire to overclock the tablet. This is what I get for buying from china direct. Working with tech support was almost impossible because of the language barrier, though it was rather comical at times.

You've been great and have provided better info than many emails from the manufacture ever has and I thank you for that. Your knowledge of android is far superior to mine.

I took the same falling : I thought I was buying a dual core 1.2 GHz tablet ...

Apparently with tablets (as well as GPS devices) dual core sometimes (actually almost all times besides a certain NEC model and perhaps the new Tegra3 CPU which is not out yet) mean : CPU (general processing unit) + GPU (graphic processor).

I was lucky to purchase via Aliexpress and their dispute / escrow payment mechanism enabled me to get a fair refund.

Regardless : E72 is a fine tablet (it's not as fast as I/you hoped for, but that is the tablet we now poses). It's not that far behind compared to the brand names (actually it out performs most) and bottom line it costs way cheaper ..., besides Zenithink (atp) is way more attentive than most brand names to their users / buyers needs / wishes.

Try to enjoy using your E72 :-)

Have you guys tried to use johane's script to make a 900MHz kernel?

I made one for my C91 and it doesn't seem to make a huge difference, but it does make the tablet feel a little smoother and snappier.... The C71 users also have been using a custom 900MHz kernel also.....

Edit: Made a couple for the E72 (E0):
