Whoops, I already posted this in the MID816 forum, but I guess I should have put it here... mods please delete the other one if its a problem.

I don't want to come off as spamming here, so I will just let people know that there is a new version of the MID816 Capacitive available now, with 5 point multitouch and some other cool new features and fixes. I have written a fair bit about it at the link below if you are interested in hearing more.

Also available at the link is September 14, 2011 firmware for both resistive and capacitive MID816s. I did a quick search and didn't see that posted, so hopefully those links will help a few people out :)

The factory actually calls the capacitive version of the MID816 the S1, (resistive screen version is still the A816) and they are not changing the model name for the new screen. All the r2 and r3, etc are just marketing additions created by website retailers who want a new name to help organize and sell better. Because there is no communal agreement amongst all the retailers, this actually works to confuse purchasers more. Just do a google search for Flytouch and see how many different versions you will find :p

If by goodies you mean bug fixes and other software issues then yes. If you mean internal Bluetooth or a higher resolution screen, then no. Those are hardware limitations. Furthermore, the firmware that we list is NOT the same firmware that the new 5 point touch capacitive screen tablet uses... and that hasn't been released in a standalone upgrade package yet. As for the notorious HDMI problem, only time will tell if it addresses that particular issue since the HDMI on older firmwares works for some tablets, and not on others. Only a large sample of users who install this firmware and report back will be able to tell us for sure.

To install...

Download and install the 1 large zip file on a TF card and insert it into the tablet. Turn the tablet on by pressing the middle (power) and bottom (home) buttons located on the front face of the tablet together (bottom 2 buttons as seen when the buttons are on the right). In order to make sure they register as pushed at the same time, you probably will want to first push the bottom one (home) and THEN the middle one (power), while still holding the bottom one down. Once you get a triangle on the screen, you have to push some more buttons. Push the middle power button and then continue to hold that button while you push the bottom home button again... so kinda a reverse of what you pushed at the start. Then you should enter a mode that allows you to reset the tablet to factory settings or upgrade the firmware, etc.

Select upgrade firmware. You can make a selection by the top and bottom buttons moving the highlight area up and down, with the power button making the selection. Hold the power button down a second for it to register your choice. Next find the .zip file and select it as well. Then sit back and let the upgrading begin :)

The market has a problem with the lcd dencity of the tablet. It is set as 158. some apps in the market say that the device is not compatible . I chanched it to 160 but the letters overlap each other on the top toolbar. I believe the market only support round numbers such as 160,180...... So does anybody have an idea for me?

I had this with my new MID816r2 from e-digitech, it has the new 5 point touch screen, to get around the compatibility issue, change to 160 and restart, install the app you want, then change back to 158. It worked for the new Facebook for me, and still works A.O.K.

I just received a new 5 point capacitive tablet from A1CS. It comes with firmware 20111108_194924.

Before doing anything to it I would like to get a copy of this firmware.
Anyone know where I might find it.

The one on the techtoys2go site is 20111018, a month older.....
