Hi Guys

A big thnks to everyone on this forum for all the hard work that has gone into the ROM's and also all of the advice that's on here. This may be a silly or redundant question but does anyone have any insight i9nto how to squeeze the optimum speed and optimum free RAM on this pad? I have found that ECLAIR uses less RAM than FROYO but has disadvantages in regard to market/apps and tweaks.

Apparently the JIT compiler in FROYO uses a few MB of RAM and i found instructions to disable it. Doesn't make any difference to the speed but frees up memory especially if using swap. I'll post instructions later when I come home from work.

Until then, if anyone else can give some help on optimum settings for speed, memory, battery use etc. I would be most grateful.

Thanks

I disabled the JIT compiler to gain free RAM, but now neither Market (newer not "play") or Play Store are able to download, the apps remain on "downloading..." state. Are you having any problem with the Market?

Hi Hal

I have not had any problems with this. There is a specific method to doing this though. Make sure your tablet is rooted, don't use any app to disable the JIT compiler. Instead, do the following:

Install Root Explorer and go into system. Make sure to change the access to RW at the top and open the build.prop file in text editor. Then enter the following 2 lines at the bottom:

dalvik.vm.execution-mode=int:fast
windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=60

Make sure you leave an empty line at the end and save file. This will rename your old build.prop file and save this as the new one. It should free up more RAM and the system should be just as fast if not faster, thanks to the second line we added.

Let me know how you get on. My tablet is now faster than it has ever been, especially with Abtekk's swap enabled.

Well, I didn't use any program to do it, I did it by editing the file, but only changed the execution mode. I'll try to change the max events per second later and see what happens.

Regards.

No way. I even changed it again to "jit" and deleted the data for market and even Google service framework but still cannot download anything. It started when I changed "jit" to "fast", but now I'm not sure if it's the cause thogh.

Hi HAL

I don't think this has been the cause although it seems a bit of a coincidence. All the JIT compiler does is converts the code to work faster, hence the name Just In Time so I would investigate anything else that could have caused the market problems such as your phone and telephony APK files and your background/sync data settings.

Thanks

@Abtekk

First off, I am thuroughly amazed at the new life brought to my old ZT-180 v1. Too Awesome, thank you so much. I'm actually pretty proud of myself as well, having had to fix my tablet since my wife, daughter, and my other daughter's dog cause the screen to black a few months ago. I got it working again to see the update. I was too excited. I know that your not getting paid for doing these updates, but I truly hope that you will continue doing updates when you are able. The responsiveness and the smoothness of this tablet makes it seem like its brand new. The only thing I don't like (which is probably something I'm sure you can't control) is the fact that it still gets hot on the bottom......HOWEVER before it would get hot and cause an issue with the touch screen. Now it still gets hot, but the screen was fine

For both your problems, you will need to flash the boot and spl files to update your tablet (two step process if you do not have sdcard flashing ability)......

I'm hoping someone can help... seems like this board (for this tablet) is sort of dead and I'm starting to think development has died. Hope not!

Anyways, I've flashed the latest version of Abtekk's ROM and I think it is awesome, I am just having a problem getting OpenVPN to work on it.

I've followed the steps here http://vpnblog.info/...-strongvpn.html however I can't get it to run. I believe it is because of a tun.ko (the tun kernel) problem. I followed the steps and I'm getting a 'tun not found' error of sorts. So then I went hunting around for a tun.ko file for this ROM and I found the app https://play.google....installer&hl=en which lists "2.6.32.9 (Abtekk's Custom ROM V3.6)" in their repository here http://droidvpn.com/...repository.php. However when I run that app it says the downloaded tun.ko file isn't compatible.

Does anyone know how I could get OpenVPN to work?
