*Very good 3D but weaker 2D Quadrant scores in almost all benches below except for the Arnova 10G2 which has good 2D #. This could point to a driver (firmware) issue rather than badly designed 2D GPU? Could affect fast action, higher res display or high detail 2D type games. Also, Linpack (FPU) scores are tad low but Quadrant CPU scores were great. ie, different CPU tests in these benches gave different CPU/FPU scores.

*Ok 3D but more on weaker side which can be seen in Quadrant 3D & Neocore scores. 2D seems pretty good. Linpack & CPU scores are good. So-so for 3D gaming but should do everything else well. Avoid if you want great 3D performance.

NOTES
A] Some CPUs get high Quadrant scores because of I/O which are somewhat important but not that much. Better to look at individual scores rather than the totals when doing comparisons.

The S5PV210 & AM8726 seem to score really low in I/O which brings their total score down. GPU (2D & 3D) is most important to check for the best gaming anyways!

#1 For the Linpack (FPU) scores; the Galaxy Tab (A8 @ 1 GHz) scores 19.5 and Samsung S5PC110 Dev Board @ 1 Ghz scores 13 Mflops for comparison. Quadrant CPU likely measures CPU not FPU performance, ie # of instructions and integer math.

#2 A9N scored higher in CPU but multicore only improves multitasking/OS responsiveness and when using multi-threaded applications. Many games and lots of applications tend to be single threaded. In most cases, 70% or higher. Plus, the somewhat weaker GPU means so-so gaming performance.

#3 For EV2 chip, single threaded programs will only use 1 x A9 @ 533 Mhz which maybe underpowered. Also, high CPU requirement, single threaded applications will use 1 core and may not run really well or at all @ 533 MHz.

#4 The A9N (EV2) uses 3.7v battery and will last longer; almost twice of tablets using 7.4 volts. Almost all China tablets use 7.4v (3.7v + 3.7v in series) and so they only have half the battery capacity. 2 x 3000 mAh @ 7.4v (in series) = 3000 mAh. 2 x 3000 mAh @ 3.7v (in parallel) = 6000 mAh. That also explains why the iPads get 10+ hours of battery time since they run off of 3.7 volts!

#5 The difference in I/O is really crazy. The S5PV210 & AM8726 score very low in this test meaning they will be slower to boot, open, copy and write files but this should be considered a minor negative because their CPUs & GPUs are pretty good performers and should run everything pretty well.

#6 Higher resolutions affect Quadrant 2D & 3D & Neocore scores; give lower gaming performance. If gaming is very important to you then choose a lower resolution tablet. Higher res makes text crisper and better for web browsing & reading.

Conclusion
If you want (1) to ensure all single threaded, high CPU requirement applications run properly and/or (2) are into gaming then avoid buying EV2 tablets like the A9N and Rena3 and go for a higher speed, single core A8 or A9 with PowerVR 540 (S5PV210) or Mali-400 GPU (AM8726).

THIS IS WHY BENCHMARKS ARE IMPORTANT. TO SEE AND CHECK THE PERFORMANCE AND QUALITY OF TABLETS BECAUSE NOT EACH IS EQUAL!!!

Ok, but first I will have to format the results I grabbed into a comparison table. Right now my first post has the benches I found off the Internet but not laid out for easy reading. A table works best for less data. Though I was thinking more of people choosing particular tablet(s) (or specific A8/A9 chip(s)), the info retrieved from the server and displayed onscreen and allowing side-by-side comparisons. ie, a system kinda similar to the TabletDB you have now would be required if you wanted to take this to the next level.

The benchmark results I have found should provide a good enough idea to users about what performance to expect from the different A8 & A9 CPUs used in Chinese tablets to help them decide which tablet would fit them best.

I updated the info in my first post and added a bunch of tablets to it, like Tegra II, Ainol Novo 8, INLE M728 (T9), Haipad M8 and many others. Lots of information to help you guys out. I also am giving a quick summary below for best 2D & 3D gaming CPU+GPU.

Best For 2D Gaming
#1 Samsung S5P V210/C110
#2 AmLogic AML8726
#3 Tegra II & TI OMAP - scores very close

*All of these CPUs scored over 200 in Quadrant 2D @ lower resolutions which is very good. Any of these is a really good choice.
*Scores were pretty close except for Samsung CPUs which lead with pretty big difference.
*Rockchip rk2918 had very low 2D Quadrant score and really not sure why. It did not make the cut scoring on the very low end. Could be bad 2D driver, bad 2D GPU design or problem with 2D Quadrant test.

Best For 3D Gaming
#1 Samsung S5P V210/C110 & Tegra II - pretty close
#2 Rockchip RK2918
#3 Amlogic AML8726
#4 TI OMAP

*based off Quadrant 3D & Neocore scores. Samsung & Tegra II really outscore the rest.
*The others have difference of about 5-10 FPS per rank.

CPUs That Give Best Battery Life

*No actual tests done but from the info I gathered on my own

Roman has also done a very good post which is right for the most part. Roman's post provides some extra information. Worth looking over though the benchmarks in this thread speak for themselves about CPU & GPU performance. =)

I was thinking of buying a Herotab C8, which has the Samsung S5PV210 processor and PowerVR SGX540 graphics. But then I saw the MID T2 (http://www.merimobiles.com/MID_T2_Tegra_2_Dual_Core_1GHz_7_inch_Android_2_3_H_p/meri0720.htm) which has a Tegra 2. Does this mean the MID T2 is a better (faster) tablet?

I just saw this post & tablet today and from first impression looks like a more powerful tablet. It scores very well in Antutu with almost double the score of my i7. So yes, it should perform better than the Herotab also. Need more info and benchmarks but looks really good so far. I would say better than the Chinese tablets currently available for performance but still need to read about screen & WiFi. Also, 800x480 is little disappointing on this tablet since text would have looked crisper had they gone with higher res which very few tablets decide to do.

Thanks Nickos-V... I actually ended up ordering an Ainol NOVO 7. There just wasn't enough information on the MID T2 and I didn't want to risk it. The NOVO 7 was also considerably cheaper than both the MID T2 and the Herotab C8. I looked at a few YouTube videos comparing the C8 and NOVO 7 and it appeared that the NOVO 7 played games faster, so I went with that one instead. I also read a few posts on this forum of people who had both, and almost every review said that the NOVO 7 was faster than the C8.

Great choice. Allwinner A10 chip seems to be the best performing on the CPU side for Cortex A8 CPUs. The Mali-400 is also pretty good too though the PowerVR 540 runs little better and has the best game compatibility. In any case, I would have chosen the Novo 7A myself too over the C8 because also has great battery life.

I will have to add in some A10 benchmarks too. Roman provided me with them for the Novo 7A. Just have to get around to posting them into this thread.

#1 This is what people should expect with stock firmware
#2 tweaking firmware should have very little impact
#3 overclock would affect performance the most but can cause stability, heating issues and wear out your chip much quicker.

This thread just provides general overview of how well the CPU & GPU performs for the tablets listed and can be used to compare between the different tablets.

Sounds good.

There is also Novo Elf. It has 1GB RAM & 1024x600. The higher resolution screen makes text much crisper for reading - pdfs, books, docs & web,etc. An extra 512MB of RAM is nice to have too. Later,

Best dual (or quad) core choices for ARM CPUs are*:
#1. Tegra3, Exynos4, RK3066
#2. Snapdragon S4, 8726-MX
#3. Tegra2, OMAP4
*The above choices are ordered by GPU performance in gaming benchmarks.

The best single core ARM CPU is: AllWinner A10. But I would avoid it because dual core tablets have 2-3X more CPU and GPU performance. ie, If you want simple or so-so tablet then get AllWinner A10 one. Like the Onda VI 60 Elite. If you want a good or really great tablet, buy a dual core ARM SoC as listed above.

PS, make sure to read my previous post too.

PPS, I left out i.MX6 quad core because it uses Vivante GPUs and may have some game incompatibility. It should also rank in #1 but I would avoid it until people can confirm if games that crash on GC800 (found in my i7) still crash on GC2000 GPU.

It see that it uses 8726-MX chip. Read posts #28 & #29 above.

It stacks up much better than AllWinner A10 for sure. =) GPU 2X or better and CPU 2.5X or better than A10. Amlogic M1 & M3 have Flash problems which may carry over to MX. ie, Youtube app will work but playing Flash in browser, Netflix, BBC iPlayer (UK) & TVCatchup (UK) may not. Otherwise performance and speed should be very fast and good on this tablet.
