I have r00ted the latest update, modified the build.prop LCD density & Upgraded Android Market to v3.0.27 & compiled an image you can flash to your SD card, Enjoy!

Process:

Loaded Stock Image 13-06-2011
Updated to Stock Update: 25-07-2011
R00ted Image (manual guide here: http://www.slatedroi...oot_Your_Tablet )
Modified build.prop
Upgraded Android Market to v3.0.27
Backed Up Image using Roadkil's Disk Image software

Download: http://www.4shared.c...Updated-25.html

Instructions:
1. Download & Unzip Image ( you may need winrar - rarsoft.com )
2. Download, Install & Run Roadkil's Disk Image Software ( http://mid816.com/fi...inAll_Setup.exe )
3. Select your SD Card & Locate the Image, then Start.
4. Place SD card Back in unit & your Done!

OR

**** UPDATE, R00T & MODIFY YOUR MID816R2 WITHOUT OPENING YOUR TABLET *****

1. Download & Place this .zip on an external micoSD card: http://www.4shared.c...ota-eng201.html

2. Update your Tablet, using the recovery console

1.- shut down the Tablet
2.- Press the "HOME" Button, and then press the "Power" button TOGETHER about 2-3 seconds.
3.- The android system will start, and stop at a page with a small android robot, press the "power" Button about 2 seconds, and then press the "HOME" together.

4.- The screen will show the below 4 choices:

1) Reboot system panel now
2) apply update from /sdcard
3) wipe data/factory reset
4) wipe cache partition

Select option 2 by holding down the "Power" button, once complete reboot!

3. Use this script to R00T, Update Android Market & Modify Build.prop: http://www.4shared.c...t_-_Modifi.html

More Instructions on this script can be found here: http://www.slatedroi...of-root-script/

*Thanks to Tasselhof for his original R00T script.

My Changelog:
Upgraded Android Market to v3.0.27 (latest version)
Modified build.prop LCD density from 240 to 220 (makes the display / icons slightly smaller)

Official Changelog:
1. Mouse Available (I assume means wireless mouse capability added.)
2. Solve Power Problems (This could be either the capacitive power, which would explain the improvements in multi-touch, or could be related to standy mode)
3. Additional Updates (this could mean anything!)

My Notes:
Multi touch seems to have been slightly improved, especially when zooming in / out its not as jurky as it was before.

It seems that some applications & games aspect ratio are detected & displayed correctly now, also had a few applications prompt for an additional download to better support the tablets graphics.

...to be continued...

NOTE:
If you have already updated to the non-r00ted stock update (by putting the update.zip on SD card & flashing via the recovery menu) you can manually root your device (see link above) * once you have rooted your device you can also download Vending.zip, extract and then adb push to /system/app/ to update Android Market.

Have you tried modifying build.prop LCD density to 158? It appears commented under the "ro.sf.lcd_density=240" line.
I think it's the best density, everything looks perfect for me (except the icons on the launcher, which look a bit pixelated).

LCD density: 158 is awful! (although only my view).

Less than 210 does not seem to be supported correctly by the device, the icons become distorted and some menu's appear to have a blue line through them upon selecting them.

220 was the lowest I have found that still functions correctly and makes the icons slightly smaller without distorting them.

Note: I'm recompiling the image with the android market update & uploading shortly, not too long to wait now ;)

Blaurens: opening the tablet is very easy, sliding something thing round the edge will pop it open, you wont break it, trust me its one the the easiest tablets to open, (i ordered an iphone opening kit from ebay few £ and the plectrum included is perfect)

Image Uploaded, Download link updated.. Enjoy! :D

On my next update I plan to disable unused services that will help battery life.
I'm also working on trying to re-sign the update.zip so in future updates can be made without removing the SD card.

Then my quest will be to try and work on getting Honeycomb to work on this beast ;)

No custom apps / games yet, however I'm working on an updated version that will include some essential applications, optimise for battery life & some other things.

i tried this today with a 1.15gb 'apps' partition on a 16gb card and everything works ok except the market place!?

it seems that while 'my apps' are available for download and installation other apps ive used before are unavailable in the marketplace (there is no 'install' button)

anyone else had this problem?

i tried installing through the browser and it says my device is t-mobile something or toher and not suitable for the app? (i'm using wifi)

i'm a complete noob when it comes to android so maybe i'm doing something wrong?

i've written an image off the original unrooted sd card and i'm going to try writing that to to the new card (not that fussed about root tbh) and see how that works out.

well my backup transfered to the new sd card fine and everything is working again, i'm wondering if the earlier problem was due to my changing the 198mb linux 'app' partition to 1.15gb but i've not changed it this time and tbh i dont think i'm going to bother trying it again anytime soon. ap2sd free is working fine for me right now and i suppose i can always root the tab later
