Not for the R70F200 Black Novel

I have put together a flash file based on 201100602 Canadian complete with Market already installed. Kobo Ereader has been removed. Kobo or Barnes & Noble are available as optional installs. Clockwox fix for Market access.

http://www.mediafire...4a9nj4b0b6oi3pa (no eReader)

rename to polaris_update.dat If you have recent OP firmare install you may have to rename the file to S64H_SLST_KOBO_BB_20101104.dat or S64N_SLST_KOBO_PD_20110602.dat thanks Ylodi

Bug fixes:

Contacts now sync with Google Contacts

Calendar now supports multiple Google Calendars

Rooting new SU for better compatibilty

Extras:

Installable Applications added to PD_Novel/Download, use ES_File Explorer to install.

Barnes & Noble eReader
Kobo eReader
Android Hacker
BusyBox
TitaniumBackup
SpareParts
Smartkey Softkey

Updated Keyboard with suggestive text.

Thanks, works great.

I rename file to S64N_SLST_KOBO_PD_20110602.dat because I have that firmware (and mentioned names doesn't work).

Thanks Ylodi, I added that naming convention to the first post.

I was actually using S64N_SLST_KOBO_PD_20110602.dat name to reflash because it will reflash 20110301. Unfortunately if I leave the download named like that you wouldn't be able to distinguish it from the factory flash.

I believe you can use the original file name since you are Oct. It is actually meant to upgrade Oct.

S64N_SLST_KOBO_PD_20110602.dat

And install file on a Sdcard and insert.

Power down your Novel. Then hold the power key and vol. up key for at least 10 sec.

You should see some text and a progress bar indicating verify upgrade. If you get a quick flash and the a normal restart, try again. Some sdcards can be a little flacky.

Tip: Make sure eject the sdcard from the PC. Sometimes the writes aren't finished if you just pop it out.

Terminander, I badly need your help.. T__T

So I have this Black Pandigital, model R70E200, S/N 7013000211126353, which I hacked yesterday night with Frenzee V1. I followed all the instructions and the installation fortunately was successful. Everything worked as expected, in fact I've been happily using it since I hacked it. But now I wanted to remove the hack and go back to the original state of my tablet, unfortunately I was having a hard time doing so. There are some instructions that I found here on this site and somewhere else but all of them didn't work or I must have just been doing it wrong, I don't know, so I wanna know if you have any idea what I should do? Looking at my "About Phone", the information say..

MODEL NUMBER: Pole 1
FIRMWARE VERSION: 1.5
BASEBAND VERSION: SimulatedCommands
KERNEL VERSION: 2.6.27 Kobo@Android
BUILD NUMBER: Kobo A.1.5.28v4 L.2.6.27.28v4 R.2.8.0 B.2.0.1

Can you tell what update version I must have installed on my tablet by looking at the given info? I tried the normal update process which requires a PC and that little .exe app found in Pandigital site and followed the instructions. Everything went well from checking the model/serial number to downloading the right update file to the pandigital internal memory, but when it came to the main update process (holding Power and Volume Up at the same time for 5 seconds) I only got and keep on getting that verifying update (?) then it would boot to Frenzee v1. Some instructions say that I try renaming the .dat file to something like S64N_SLST_KOBO_BBB_2011_01_12.dat, polaris_update.dat or anything that works, I just have to try and figure it out, but I couldn't find the right one. Do you sir have any idea?

Yesterday I stayed up all night till morning trying to undo the hack but to no avail, so I'm hoping you can help me with this.. I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you.

Something I found this on the Frenzee post, so it's not the first time.

Quote

How do I update back to the latest Pandigital firmware? It put the official firmware on the SD Card, put the power + vol+ buttons. It comes up the update, and it does this: Mounting the Partitions Verifying the update crash! Help?!?

Is this what is happening to you? This would mean your using the right naming convention. If you just get a quick flash and then normal reboot, then the update name is wrong.

I am not sure what happens if you have an update on both the internal and external sdcards. Not sure where the novel searches first, so I always use my external.

A failure in the verifying phase would normally mean you have a corrupt file. Make sure you eject the sdcard or novel when copying or renaming files with your PC.

Yes, this is what I get.

You know what, I'm glad you mentioned that you use external SD card because I've never actually tried using mine. I'll try this one now and see if it fixes the issue.

And one more thing, in renaming the .dat file that is for my reader's current [hacked] firmware/OS and model, which name do you think should I use here:

S64N_SLST_KOBO_BB
S64N_SLST_KOBO_PD
S64N_SLSB_PDUI_PD
S64N_SLST_OP15_PD
(or is there something else?)

..and what firmware dates eg: 20101123, 20110106, 20100930, 20110103?

Quick question on the dates: Some firmwares I noticed have this date format YEAR_MONTH_DAY (2010_01_03) and others have YEARMONTHDATE (20100103). Which one is right?

UPDATE: I finally figured it out yay!!! You are absolutely right, terminander, about using the external memory card. It did the trick. I just put the .dat file in the external memory and renamed it as polaris_update.dat, turned it off and did the power+volume up trick and poof! Success! Oh God, how can I thank you?!?!?!? ^^,

I installed this firmware a couple of weeks ago. It seems mostly fine, except that I regularly get a popup saying "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." When I tap on the force close button, the popup goes away and things continue as normal.

Anyone have any ideas as to what's causing this?

Googling a little bit shows lots of people having this error when their contacts sync. Most people seemed to have avoided the error by editing their contacts.

You could try installing a logcat app and see if any meaningful errors show up in the logcat output.

The issues may not be related to the specific firmware.

I'm not getting the error at all, and my contacts sync all the time. Anyone one else getting this. You can do logcat from a Terminal/Shell or Adb. Install Android Hacker to get a simple Terminal.

Does it happen randomly or with a specific app?

What apps have you install?

Have you gone through the full Market Setup?

@edca2002

This may not be related to any particular firmware, but I've had my BPDN for months and I started getting this popup only after I upgraded to this particular firmware.

Not sure whether this is related to syncing w/Google Contacts. I have loaded a bunch of contacts from a vcf from work. I have a GMail account, but I don't maintain contacts there. (The BPDN knows my GMail account/password, though, so I suppose it's possible that it's trying to sync.)

@terminander

>Does it happen randomly or with a specific app?

Randomly. Sometimes happens just after bootup, before I start anything. Also happens while I'm playing games or reading books. Sometimes it happens when it's just sitting there doing nothing.

>What apps have you install?

B&N reader, Coolreader, FBReader, PDF Viewer, ACV comics reader, DroidEmuLite, Shisen Pro, Shortyz, Word Mix Lite, Maps 3.0, Overdrive Media Console, vCardIO

>Have you gone through the full Market Setup?

Umm, I believe so, if that's what you need to do to load apps from Market. Set it up with my gmail account and password.

By the sounds of this, it is caused by some service running in the background. Logcat would be the simplest way to track it down.

Google services can cause these type of errors if Setup Wizard hasn't been ran. But you haved logged into Market, so that should be fine. You can go to Setup, Account Sync and turn off syncing to see if that helps.

Using ADB, you can run logcat > **file** . The error should show along with the offending proccess/service. You can also run DDM and get your errors live.

You can install Android Hacker to get a terminal and run logcat.

I have had some success setting up the White PDN for full Android Market access, but the Black/Blue ones seem to give me a bit o trouble..

I have read a lot about it and there is a point of confusion for me. Hoping to get clarification..

On the one hand, I read alot about having to download the Android SDK, install it and then put various firmwares in various directories, etc etc..

On the other hand, I read about downloading firmwares and simple using the POWER/VOLUME+ buttons to flash...

I am guessing that the former represents older techniques or more specialized techniques and the latter represents more current procedures for noobs like me.

Is this an accurate assessment??

Thanx

A lot of newer firmwares/tablets are security locked, preventing rooting and major hacking. So is the black/colored novel.

I have 2 firmwares, one is unlocked, rooted and has full market/Google experience preinstalled and available in the first post. The other is just unlocked.

Either one you just reflash from your sdcard.

I saw the last post on here and decided to give it a try. I also bought the 4gb pandigital novel black at big lots last week. The problem i seem to have is the market is not full. I use "IMO beta" and "farmville crop timer free" a lot on my phone but these are not showing up in the market. Is there any .dat file firmware that gives me full use of the market? I have been looking for a week and no luck so far for the full market. Any help would be great. Thanks.
